Prince ecentually needed to return to the public eye even if it meant performing with Beyonce. There is a good reason why his name has risen in the list of all time greats, its because of the performances of the past six year, grammy, hall of fame, superbowl etc. Plus he got back some of the critical sucess he had lost.

I dunno if he "needed" it.

But it was pretty obvious what he was doing and he made the right decision.

Not sure what "critical success" your talking about.

The only ones I can think of is that he's finally gotten some guitar props.

Remember the Rolling Stone Fiasco by snubbing him on the 100 Greatest guitarist, then after RR Hall of Fame...

Reissue.... hehe

thats about it though.

Cause I don't care what anybodies said

The quality of the music declined after Musicology

well i think Musicology received better reviews then any prince album in years

No argument there. It was a really good album. But he's had four since then...

But then again its Prince his outlet hasn't been consistent since the 80's

Prince outlet has always been more shit then hits.

Doesn't make him any less of an artist. Every now and then he'll make a great song like Somewhere Here on Earth, or Dreamer.

With Prince it's like spurts of greatness.

You first get a great album like musicology, then he'll give you something lackluster but listenable, like 3121, than something hilariously mediocre like Planet Earth, (I cringe everytime after Lion of Judah)

On one hand I wish he hadn't because the media made him look like a crazy spoiled brat and in turn his legacy really faded when it should've been growing stronger with every year. He was MJ's only rival in the 80s but was like an afterthought in the 90s. He shifted the focus from the music to him and the label too much. But on the other hand, an artist should always do what they want, business shouldn't dictate everything, that's why the majority of pop music today is so vapid and soulless. So I'm glad he stood up for himself, I just wish the music hadn't suffered in the process.

No, it destroyed his late-90s sales...

but even the whole "Slave/Emancipation" controversy is nothing next to the disaster of Lotus.com, "The Internet is Dead" bullshit and the lack of current self-promotion (Youtube, iTunes, 20Ten not released in the US, etc.). If Prince is on Spotify is just cuz Warners made it possible (you can find his 78-94 work there...)
