Hello org,
Prince does not hate the U.S at all.......
Prince has no fear of touring the U.S. at all.....
Prince is not in (need) of money at all........ He is doing them for very very specials reasons. It has not 1 thing 2 do with money.
Prince will perform in the U.S., it may not be a mini tour like all would like but he will perform. He may just do states/cities such as N.Y., FL., Atl., Detroit, TX, L.A. (a couple), then back to Minn.-(kinda of a fund raiser thingy like last yr.).
I know it seems like 4 ever but just b more patience he will be there. Remember many didn't think he would perform back in the U.S. last yr. but he did.
Hang in there luv u all
Til next time U R NOT BETTER THAN ANYONE NOR R U PERFECT!!

I don't really think so. I was listening to an interview he did a while ago (I don't remember when it was done) with French radio, and they asked if he liked the crowds here (in France/Europe) better. He said that crowds are different everywhere, it depends, but he also said that he likes it in Europe better because Americans are so obsessed with technology that they have to take pictures and videos at the concerts. He said that he liked that the people here (inEuro) respected the fact that he didn't want pictures/videos taken, as opposed to us Americans
His words, not mine. | |

After Purple & Gold, I think he is smart to keep a low profile for a while. Especially anywhere near a football stadium.

Why would P fear touring the States, when he routinely rakes in serious money whenever he does?
Shucks, even I would buy some tickets if he came to town.

That is HILARIOUS!! I just spent $330 on 2 OK seats for my 10yr old niece and me for the Justin Beiber concert in November! Those seats are OK, not even close really. The 2-3 seats they had left close to the stage were $500+. Trust me, young people are spending for the shows...
Surely, fans would pay $60 for a Prince concert... Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I think he isn't doing the tours here for the same reasons why MJ didn't tour the US....the American fans don't show enough love and the European fans are loyal! MJ could sell out of any country, anywhere he went, including the US...but he didnt? Why? Because he chose to go where fans appreciated him. Makes sense really, but does suck for the loyal American fans... Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

There it is.
Maybe I shoulnt have titled the post "fear", but this is what I mean.
American fans (outside of us diehards) do not give a damn about Prince and I think he knows he would not sell out a stadium tour here, regardless of the state of the economy.
Im sure he'd do well in arenas or small theaters though. There's enough interest to fill those up, but a stadium of 70,000...sadly no. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

I think he could sell out US hoop arena's but in doing so he'd have to market and play ball with a US label/Corporation. He'd also have to keep the set more hits oriented because to sell out those venues he'd have to cater to casual audiences.

I agree with what a few people have said here - the flaw in your theory is that it seems to be based on the assumption that this is what Prince is aiming to do.
Consider professional sport for a minute. There is a very clear end goal in whatever sport you play. If you play football, you want to win the superbowl (or world cup or premiership or pennant or whatever it is in your code). If you are a baseball player, you want to win the...baseball thing.
But topping the charts and selling out stadiums isn't necessarily the end goal of all musicians. We tend to assume it's where the money is - maybe it isn't (promotion on that level - at least the in the US - almost certainly requires the sort of contracts that put the artist's percentage into single digits), but even if it is, you still can't assume it's every artist's ultimate goal.
Topping charts and selling out massive tours can give you fame, which we also tend to assume everyone wants, but he's had the crazy, everyone uses you, paparazzi drive you batty, wild rumours are used to sell magazines sort of fame that the Gagas of this world get to enjoy now - he's made it pretty clear he's not interested in revisiting that particular circus.
Finally, a successful stadium tour absolutely does not make you "the best musician" - presumably we all know that, but just in case anyone isn't clear:
Does this mean Justin Beiber > Prince?
Prince does what he wants. He makes enough money to meet his wants and needs, releases the music he wants to release to the places he wants to release it and in ways that best suit his purpose, whatever that is.
I'm sure he will tour the US again. When he wants. How he wants.
If he wants to sell out a stadium tour, he knows exactly how to do it and will have no trouble making it happen.
I doubt he will though.

For better or worse that's still a majority of what he's been playing at these overseas shows (save Montreux, which had awesome set lists). But he hasn't played some of those places in forever. Maybe a more varied set list when/if he plays in the states. Regarding that, I don't know. If he got a good vibe going in the press and the tour announcement received major coverage I think he'd be OK. But in that case you're probably right about those people expecting a lot of hits.

"they made me an offer i couldnt refuse" - prince, in response to his last tour of europe.
if its not about money, then what is the offer he could not refuse? warmer air?
please. i'm not fooled by scouts claiming he has 'special reasons'.

Yes if MJ came back from the grave he certainly could sell out stadiums; certainly not the last several years of his life. If the Beatles were back together they'd do well too. [Edited 10/5/10 21:33pm] [Edited 10/5/10 21:36pm]

Gosh no!! I don't even want to put them in the same sentence, its such an insult to Prince. I just meant that if young people are willing to spend that kind of $ on JB, then surely people would spend that much on Prince. (someone stated that youngsters couldn't afford to spend $60 on Prince:-? )
And I agree Prince isn't all about the money right now. I personally think he is after more than money, he is after acceptance of his music and understanding. And right now, European audiences are giving him what he needs. When I say he was seeking loyal fans, I didn't mean those that spend the money per se, just the ones that continue to support him and love his music. He once said "the highest thing you pay someone is a compliment, that's higher/better than money." And I think he really believes that...
I think he will do more US shows, probably on a smaller scale, it would be nice to see him perform a series like he did @ the O2 arena, in MN perhaps? I think fans far and wide would come to see him. And with a new ablum and promotion, I have NO doubt Prince could sell out of a stadium! There are plenty of fans left, young and old and everyone knows how amazing of a performer he is! And that Superbowl halftime show only reminded Americans of that! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

He doesn't love it that hard...cause if he did, he could have SO much more of it if he just went commercial and mainstream! He has other motives that's obvious, what they are is the question. Of course he loves money, who doesn't? He has to get paid, who doesn't work to make a living? But you can't really think he only cares about money.... Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

oh, hehehe, sorry Daphne, I probably should have explained that better
I did know what you were saying in your post in response to the $60 comment. I just used your comment to illustrate a different point in my post (ie. simply the fact that Beiber is evidently selling out concerts, with fans paying hundreds of dollars to see him).
I know you wouldn't have been insinuating that Beiber, nay anyone else for that matter, was greater than Prince
