Symphonic Tribute to Prince's Purple Rain - Have Anybody Heard This?

Upon searching for Raheem DeVaughn's version of "I Would Die 4 U", I found this....

I'm not a fan of "tribute albums" but I loved what I heard, it wasn't spectacular but it served the purpose of a good tribute IMO. I loved how some of the songs were re-arranged(namely, Darling Nikki), I wished the album was a tribute to Prince' music generally as opposed to just "Purple Rain".

Poster Squirrelgrease said couple of months ago that there was a good C&W tribute album to Prince' music, I'll manage to find that,,,,,but right now I'm more partial to instrumental tribute albums to Prince because of that album I mentioned. Do you know any I should check out?

Yeah...I bought this a couple years back.

Its pretty awesome...as if Purple Rain was the soundtrack to one of those old 60s color movies...stoned and dont really know what Im trying to say, but u know what I mean...the movies where the colors are too bright! biggrin

And I love the inclusion of the b-sides! thumbs up!

blunt music She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies.... music blunt

"God" could've fit easily in that tribute, but I don't think they covered it hmmm loved "Erotic City" & "17 Days" and I'm not easy on folks covering them.

Some of the reviews in Amazon calls it a classical tribute, I think the album leaned toward Jazz more to me(which I love).

I absolutely love this.

I've always avoided these tribute things like the plague, but you're normally a sane type of orger. I might check this out.

If you like Symphonic Tribute, then you'll probably dig Sexykinkyjazzysmooth (Vitamin). It's from the same group of musicians that did Symphonic.

My personal favorite instrumental tributes have been the two original Bob Belden Prince collections. When Doves Cry: The Music of Prince and Purple Rain: The Music of Prince. These have since been repackaged on a couple volumes as "Blue Note Plays Prince".

Besides those mentioned, here are a few more tributes:

Various Artists - If I Was Prince

Various Artists - Acoustic Tribute To Prince

Various Artists - Party O’ Times

Various Artists - Tribute To Prince (exact repackaging of Party O' The Times)

Various Artists - Controversy A Tribute To Prince

Various Artists - Do Me Baby! Austin Does Prince (Alt-Country)

Various Artists - Prince Songbook Symbolism

Various Artists - Purple Pain (Punk)

Various Artists - Spin/Purplish Rain (free download only)

Various Artists - Shockadelica (50 Norwegian bands)

The Classic Metropolitan Orchestra - The Music Of Prince

Unknown German Group - The Black Album

Dump – That Skinny Mutherfucker With The High Voice? (this is all killer, no filler)

...I'm forgetting some, no doubt.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

That's true. It's more of a collection of previously released Prince-penned tunes.
