Prince & NPG 1993 @ Wolfgangs Vault Just found this link from Wolfgang's Vault for Prince & NPG @ the DNA Lounge 4.12.1993 SF, CA.
Wolfgang's Vault is a treasure trove of master tapes from 'Bill Graham Presents' concert promotions. My understanding is that BG reserved rights to record shows he promoted. Reviewed the posting rules & don't think the link breaks the forums rules so enojoy...
There is anything and everything you could imagine at the site...
Only a shade over 30 minutes (bare bones breakdown of 'Come' :-)but a nice find...

It still trips me out that Tony M was around when gems like Peach and Come were written. Boggles the mind.

Prince still had good material when Tony M was around, considering the "Game Boyz" had been used since Madhouse's first video in late 1986. However, when Prince started recording the Come album around the time the ACT I tour was being rehearsed and about to begin in March 1993, he obviously was ready to make music without them again. The last sighting I had of Tony M on stage with Prince was in July 1994 at Glam Slam for a benefit. Saw him years later at the 7/7/7 concert, my seats were better than his! TRUE BLUE

An unreleased whaaaaaaaaat?
This show is featured (since ages ago) on at least 4 bootlegs. Temptation's 'Easter Miracle' is the best one and IIRC the only complete source.
Besides, what's that Wolfgang's vault about? Is that just a stream or an mp3...?
Then not for me. Give me the real thing and not that lossy crap.

Yeah, sometimes it's tough to remember that Wally and Greg were on stage during the Purple Rain tour because their image is so iconic with the SOTT tour (and Parade to a lesser degree). Same with the Game Boyz and their early appearances vs. their iconic imagery during the Diamonds and Pearls and Symbol days.

In Tony M's case I think most of us are just TRYING to forget. I feel bad for him sometimes because it wasn't his fault, really. It was Prince's decision to push the guy on his fans. But maaaaan, his "raps" were just AWFUL. Bleh.

Listening to the thread's namesake show, it's funny to hear Tony try to awkwardly squeeze into "Come" when there is really no room or context for him at all, lol. I actually thought, upon listening, "I wonder if he felt left out of all that stuff." And I mean this was killer material being written and recorded and he's left out of ALL of it after being so heavily forced upon fans the past 3 years.

Thank God he was left out of it. I didn't mind Tony M too much on the CDs, but live he sucked. Always yelling out his vocals. I would say the D & P tour featured him a lot more than either the Nude tour or the Act I tour. On the Act I tour Prince had him onstage acting like he can play guitar, which was fine, as long as he wasn't trying to sing/rap/yell. TRUE BLUE

I noticed him playing guitar in The Morning Papers video and on Blue Light on the Arsenio show and always wondered if he can actually play
This DNA aftershow is one of my favourites boots - great versions of Come, Black MF in the House, Papa. Prince sounds full of cold so his voice is really raw but sounds cool on some of the songs

I would imagine he plays guitar as well as Eric Leeds plays bass in the Screams Of Passion clip "Hope is the feeling we have that the feeling we have is not permanent."-Mignon McLaughlin

My point was I haven't heard it and I do not have it. [img:$uid]http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/3.gif[/img:$uid] Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Albiet this particular show is 'streamed only', you can download select shows for purchase (256K MP3 or FLAC 16 bit 44.1 - cd quality). I don't have the time or wherewithal to track down a boot. I'll tolerate a low bit rate in exchange for content I can't experience otherwise (I come from the vinyl/ SACD camp but in the end it's about the music...).
With a membership you can ramp up to a (barely passable) 192k stream. No affiliation on my part, just a happy customer. The fact the I can grab unreleased shows from Aretha to Zappa has made me a regular visitor there. My wife? From the site:
"Royalty Tracking In order to make sure that artists receive applicable royalties, the Concert Vault identifies and counts the songs you and all listeners have accessed. We use this data to report and pay royalties, and for internal analysis. We do not share your personal usage data with any third parties."
That amounts to cash in the mailbox for the artists (even if it's just listened to, sure there's a larger chunk involved if its purchased).
Looking at the roster, I'd bet a lot of the artists open their own mail at this point. But for most it's an additional revenue stream.
How does the artist feel about controlling the material? Probably varies by the individual. If 'P' doesn't want this set streaming I'm sure he's got folks that could have it pulled from the site.
FWIW - I enjoyed it...
