B-sides that should have been album cuts

Okay people. Pick your favourite B-sides. The ones that should have been on official studio releases...what song(s), and what album do you think they'd fit best on.

I'd say "Hide the Bone" is my favourite B-side, on either Love Symbol (for it's funkiness, and Quirky Prince Production) or Chaos and Disorder (For it's funky rock vibe from start to finish).

How bout' choo?

Oh motherfucker, she's a motherfucker, can't U understand?

"Hide the Bone" wasn't a b-side and it wasn't even recorded when Love Symbol came out, lol. First of all.

As far as actual b-sides... Obviously everyone will say "17 Days" which is totally correct. "Erotic City" has an album-quality vibe to it as well, though I am not sure if it would work on the Purple Rain album. I could see an edited version of "Love or Money" on something like Sign o the Times. Obviously "Escape" sounds VERY much like it should be a Lovesexy album cut (like, say, after "Dance On"). "Horny Toad" would've worked well on 1999, I think.

Alexa de Paris

She's Always in My Hair

How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore

along with the already suggested '17 Days', 'Escape' and 'Erotic City'

Also a more exciting recording of 'Girl' could have been great on an album.

Didn't say it had to be on an album that was out when the song was released. I'm just saying what album i think it SHOULD have been written for, and would have sounded best on. And when was Hide the Bone an official release? It was off Crystal Ball, which was a bootleg/b-sides comp...as far as i know, maybe i'm mistaken.

Crystal Ball is just a straight up outtakes set. It does contain some remixes of stuff like "Pussy Control" and "Loose" and "The Continental", but it's not a b-side compilation.

Call me crazy, but I think "Rock and Roll is Alive" would have been a kick ass opening track for "The Gold Experience"

My favourites are obvious ones : erotic city & how come u don't call me anymore.

They should have been on albums but the fact Prince was able to release (in the days when a 45 was still something) such quality b-sides is part of the myth. For the better.

"Silve tongue" could have fit in very well on "One nite alone-piano vocal"

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

"She's Always In My Hair" should have been on ATWIAD...perhaps in place of "Tambourine"?

It's definitely A-side material,imo.

"Horny Pony" should have been on the Symbol album, so I can easily disregard it along with many other crap tracks.

Yes! As opening track for side 2, it would've changed the whole dynamic of the album (especially with "America" following it). Hmm, off to make a new playlist...

Yep. And it is official, don't forget. Released in 1998. One of the first major artist albums to be made available via the internet.

I think that only that complete Parade album would work. Always in my hair is to poppy and clear a vocal for ATWIAD-Erotic City is too much dirty funky Prince for the clean lines of PR

17 Days, God, Erotic City & Another Lonely Christmas could all have made Purple Rain easily. Just how Prince was able to separate these songs was amazing in itself. I miss the days of the b-side/extended remix!

I always felt that "Its gonna be a beautiful night" on SOTT was a mistake. It was a Parade tour track, and was so "live" (despite the overdubs) that it is out of place on the album. I think Prince should have stuck either Crystal ball or La La La He He He in its place, or put two shorter tracks in its place like Witness and Joy in Repetition.
