"Right The Wrong" definitely had a country/southern feel to it.

No musician worth 2 cent should go country.

Did Prince tell you to say that?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I've specifically constructed my life in such a way so that I never, ever, have to be confronted with country music in any of its forms. If Prince started playing it, that would completely fuck up my entire situation.

PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman!

Close. Things like "Horny Toad", "Delirious", "Jack U Off" - those are all rockabilly, and he always seemed to have fun with it.

Calling those songs rockabilly is like calling "Loose" electronic.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Yep,... Horny Toad and Jack U Off could definitely qualify as rockabilly...they sound like songs Little Richard, Chuck Berry or Roscoe Gordan would sing.

Naw Prince should go straigh New Wave

He only touched on it during Dirty Mind - Controversy

he sprinkled his music with it for 1999 Purple Rain even some songs on ATWIAD

Yee-haw to that! Modern country is awful! Pretty much anything after Alabama gets a thumbs down from me. Prior to that there's some stuff I can actually listen to. The really old stuff is still the best, though. My opionion, of course. Clearly there's some mf's buyin' "modern country" hand over fist.

I totally agree, I enjoy the older stuff too. Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson are the only two country acts I actually spent money on to see live in recent years. I saw Alabama a couple of times back in the day and they were cool too. Oh, and Prince should stay away from country.

Off the top of my head the only connection with country that Prince has ever had is (1) that he gave a song to country artist Deborah Allen back in '88 or so (a non-country song though) and (2) he shouted out something like "Look out all you cowboys!" right before the expanded Revolution began to play at the Holiday Inn for the MTV premier of UNDER THE CHERRY MOON in Sheridan, Wyoming in '86.

It wouldn't work. And it would finish him off critically.

the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul

Modern country is not as bad as many people think.

It's where real songwriting has gone these days. I actually kinda like it.

I agree with this...as much as I used to detest country music I've grown to accept it. It may not have the sound I like the most but it's legit singers, songwriters and musicians. I give them props for that. I say go for it Prince....why not? smile

yes.

anything to mix it up would be welcome. pick some great country songs, and do them in his own way.

people thought ray charles was crazy, but that's some of his best stuff.

Two things:

1)Country radio is all over that "black aaayuss" Darius Rucker right now.

2)You mistakenly assume that any radio format would play new Prince music on their station. lol

I'm not a huge fan of modern country, but some of it is amazing. Gary Allan is unbelievable. His cover of Vertical Horizon's "Best I Ever Had," recorded after his wife's suicide, is beyond heartbreaking.

I've never heard of him. He must be their new Charlie Pride. I bet he don't look like no "kwurr" though. They hate them just as much as they hate blacks. lol

Apparently you must haven't been around them rednecks. If somebody like Prince were to perform in a country/western club, they would drag his ass from a pickup truck. He'd be a damn fool to make a country album. They would never accept someone that looks like him and he sure as hell couldn't perform the material live for them.
