For me, I keep on coming back to Future Baby Mama. Great melody, great vocal perfromance, some spoken word, not over-produced either.

I'd have to go with The Dreamer, although I must admit it sounds like a Hendrix ripoff...

Oddly, I decide to play the role of Bart Van Halen, and ask what song is The Dreamer? Just like I am wondering why Bart is telling us his posts are not authorized by the NPGMC in his signature. I had no earthly idea that the NPGMC was still around! Since Mr Van Halen is always right, I am hoping he tells us how to find the NPGMC so we can all re-activate our lifetime memberships.

By the way, the song is "Dreamer," and I think Prince was just saying hello to Hendrix, and doubt he will be sued. Other than that element, the majority of the song is Prince's, but it would not be false to say it is the 3rd cousin of "Witness 4 The Prosecution." It is not like U2 has even thought of suing him for "Guitar" having the same guitar part as "I Will Follow." Prince was probably saying hello to The Edge...of course that is a lot of hello in the last few years, but it is not like he has turned into Sting, Billy Joel, or Rod Stewart, unable to write new material.

Colonized Mind was a great choice, but unlike Guitar, and Dreamer, that have elements of other songs, Mind seems to walk the fine line of having too many elements to Miriam Makeba's "Quit It" from the album, "A Promise." The way she sings "No Responsibility" hurt my soul, thinking Prince was solely responsible for the great track. If you search Miriam Makeba on that Tube site, you should take a listen and see for yourself.

Although the songs are not that similar, Future Soul Song beats the living crap outta Future Baby Mama, but I do like both songs.

In studio: Wow, that's a tough one...have to go with his version of 'A Case of U'. Heart wrenching, tender, and yearning. His falsetto has never been more sad, nor sweeter.

Live: "Fury" on SNL, hands down. That performance is amazing- still blows me away to this day.

If you don't mind, I'd like to add a 1st runner-up: "Reflection" live on Tavis. Equally powerful because he performs it with Wendy. Even through their up's and down's, her smile tells you she still has a deep love for him.

"Black Sweat"

i lean toward SST.

It's topical, without isolating w/ religious or political theory. It has a clean, modern production that doesn't try too hard, and doesn't seem too plastic (to these ears). It's funky at the end, and has some pretty strong vocals. Plus it gives props to Sade, which is always a good idea.

Not much of a chorus or a hook, but somehow it doesn't feel like it needs it.

Mature, funky, confident, and topical. Yo me gusto.

Definitely a top choice for me too. Vocals are very Dylan-esque IMO. The guitar is brilliant.

I dunno about best, but my favorites are probably 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 and the SNL performance of "Fury."

I used to love "High" too but it seems like it didn't age well.
