If all the Prince rumours/stories you heard were true...

Would any stop you liking him/his music and if so which wound be thecstraw that broke the camels back?

I stopped liking him for a few weeks around the time of the name change. A reputable paper her in the UK printed a big story (I think he was still mid Act II) that the whole Victor name thing was a nod to the movie Victor/Victoria and this, combined with the symbol being an amalgamation of male and female, was because he was about to undergone op to give him both sets if genitals so that he never needed a sexual partner again.

I believed it (for some reason), thought he was a dick and boxed up all my stuff for a while.

:-)

I'd have admiration for the bad-assedness it would take to have ribs removed so he could suck his own dick.

All that other silly stuff would pale in comparison.

I'm firmly planted in denial

Their was a point when i stopped liking him as a person after i heard a couple rumors i even didn't like the music as much anymore, it just didn't have that same effect.

I was like, good god how in the world can someone be so mean and selfish, damn that dude is ten notches below asshole.

Eventually, i got over it and just took it all as hearsay.

I've been asked several times why I still listen to Prince by friends who are not fans, but whom hear about his stupid antics in the press. My answer, often, is that I don't need to be his friend to like his music. His music often transcends his actual stances on things. You listen to some songs on 20TEN and they talk about letting people be who and what they want to be, but Prince has not expressed that kind of free-thinking in 10 years. I'm not sure what process Prince went through in 2007-2009, but it is clear his ambitions exceed that of JW teachings (when you start talking about songs like "Boom" and "Planet Earth" and "Beginning Endlessly" you can see this theme of reaching beyond earthly means and ideas).

In the end, his music is what hooked me and that's the most important part. I don't care who or what he is fucking or what his dinner was last night or if he uses egyptian silk toilet paper. Hell, if I didn't simply like to debate I wouldn't participate in threads about his taxes and shit. The music is where it began and where it will end, with me.

eek How do you do that ? See, im the type of person who looks at the person as whole.. i cant sit there and listen to some dude sing about adoring one woman knowing that he has 18 chicks on the side. It doesn't completely effect the music but knowing hes faking just gives the music a shallow and hollow feel to it. Im a little ashamed to say this, but when i hear terrible rumors i just pretend that they're all misunderstandings and/or lies. So in order for the music to not change, for me i just look at the bright side of his "personality" or want he gives of to the public.

I would still like him, if it turned out his canes were still full of his jizz, or if in fact he really was gay and out a bout it, or at least Bisexual. I like his music, but I don't like the person while hes on his Jehovah shit.

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

But you do that every time you listen to Prince. He recorded "Big Tall Wall" around the same time as "Forever In My Life", remember. He's never been shy about conflicting beliefs.

Truthfully, if I were to associate Prince with everything in his music, then you are a slave (one way or the other, be it because of your race or your gender), I am a demon who should be banished, and the world should stop paying taxes.

Dont get me wrong, I can listen the music and in fact enjoy it a lot but its always something in the back of my head thats says "that dude is faking"

Kinda like when a rapper talks about killing and drug dealing and in reality he graduated magna cum-laude at Yale and was raised in Martha's Vineyard

Plus, its not really his earlier stuff that makes me think this way, its more so his recent output

Do you think he walks around in the belief that everyone should be free to be themselves like he says in "Act of God"? Or do you think he believes strict JW teachings like he talks about on The Rainbow Children, referring to people as "The Banished Ones."

It may be a little too sugary for some, I know, but I do genuinely believe that every single person has a beautiful essence, and when an artist is truly tapping into that essence within themselves, that's where their art/music/etc... comes from.

Thus, I can enjoy Prince's music, even love Prince for who he is, regardless of whether or not this rumour or that rumour is true.

I'm another one that does tend to romanticise the experience - I don't see my relationship to Prince as being "strictly business" (although I totally understand and respect that), but rather more of traditional fan/celebrity relationship, with a bit of spiritual curiosity mixed in.

I try not to get too caught up in the rumours as we don't know the people involved personally, so we can only think we see things clearly - if we heard the gritty details of some of them I suspect we'd be surprised (both ways).

But going back to the original question, if Prince came out tomorrow (not literally - oh, well, that too I guess wink) and said that yes, there's a list of folk he didn't pay for whatever reason and yes, he has cheated on every woman he's ever dated/married and yes, he did hit Sinead 20 years ago, etc... then so be it.

It certainly wouldn't stop me from listening to his music, and quite frankly wouldn't stop me from loving him either, because I value unconditional love in all its forms, including between a fan and her favourite celebrity smile

It absolutely does NOT mean I condone any of the above possible incidents, I just don't believe that anyone has ever made any constructive progress in their life journey through being judged or ostracised. I believe there is a better way.

his own actions are enough for me to not like him, but i'll always appreciate his music

i dont pay much attention to tabloids, except when they are thrust in my face because prince wants to distribute his music via them

and what an ironic match-up, prince and tabloids. lol

this too shall pass

Its kinda like when u have kids.

I have three and there are plenty times when I want to knock the shit out of them, or jump in their body for five minutes to get them to handle a situation the way I want them to, the way I feel will work out best for them.

But u never stop loving them.

yeahthat biggrin The music is enough to keep me hooked! And EVERY musician has skeletons in the closet. If we went based on that, we might as well shut the music industry down. Everyone has done something they aren't proud of and that someone would disagree with!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

You still wouldn't bat an eyelid if stuff like him beating Sinead O'Connor up or paying women to keep quiet about pregnancies after orgies?

I wouldn't! Doesn't concern me! His music still kicks ass! Plenty of men have beat women and haven't lost any fans...why would Prince be any differently? {NOT excusing the action btw} And any woman that let a 5'3, 110lb man beat on her is crazy! Please those stories are just bs!

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
