'Charade' 2010 'remaster' Any good?
Hows the sound?, i'd dearly love a BOC-type quality sounding version of 'There's Others Here With Us'.

It's not BOC type quality. It's no different quality than is already available out there for anything on the set with the exception of "Heaven" which includes the introductory 40 seconds of the song which were clipped off the circulating version and the end does not abruptly fade out. As far as I know, this is the first time we've seen this complete version of the song. I might be wrong about that, though.

The follow up replies at a certain place make out like it's amazing. It's really not. I'm amazed this boot hasn't really improved all that much from my vinyl back in the 80's. Strange considering the tech about today.

Yeah, I mean, I have unlimited bandwidth so I think the download 'effort' was worth it for "Heaven" but on the whole, this is just a boring release. In addition, I typically don't like sets that put released tracks into a pre-release configuration (like those Dream Factory and Crystal Ball configs esp). Once my brain is trained to hear a certain song somewhere, it's hard for me to get into the set if its order is jacked up.

This version has been floating around for a while now But is not the real complete version, This is a Fan made edit The intro is actually the mid break down from the song around the 4:10 mark, and looped, spliced Just a little fancy editing.. I thought it was real at first.. Till some one pointed out the flaws
Well i could be wrong, But this is what i have been told [Edited 8/30/10 18:58pm]

Just my opnion.. As far as quality.. A few tracks sound just a bit clearer Maybe.. Girls & Boys, Love or money.. The rest sound no better or the same as whats already been released

You know what, you're right! That is clever editing.

YUCK!
OK, that's spiffy editing and all, but if they're not upfront about it on the labelling, that's...... yuck.
Still gonna check it out.

I didn't find anything interesting in this set.
And I think the work done on Heaven is lame. They made the intro far too long.
Several years ago, there was a version on p2p (though in mp3, only) that had an 'invented' intro as well but it was much better and much more credible.
I don't get the point in releasing this now.

OK, I listened to it, and I gotta say they did pretty good, it works - reminds me of something else with that drum beat intro
There is a bit of an ugly muffled quality dip when the vocals come in though.

It's a bit obvious when the first :40 that hasn't been circulating in the last 24 years suddenly appears! Plus, it's like super-clear at the beginning and all of a sudden the sound gets muddier. The biggest clue is that when Prince starts singing, it still has the feel that he's in the middle of a verse, or its the second verse. There's no Prince-style build-up to that crescendo. Imagine the guy who first cut off the beginning on that tape back in the day. Little did he know decades later people would still be discussing it. I've always liked the song regardless of the cut-off beginning.

I've been collecting a long time and i have to say that all these 'remasters' are a bunch of BS. Unless you have the MASTER tapes, how can you 'remaster' something? All of these outtakes from the 80s and 90s come from audio tape dubs, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on....
Can you improve on the quality? That's subjective. If you remove hiss, you alter the sound, making it bassy, if you leave the hiss, you have more treble but annoying hiss. There are new softwares that can "clean up" and remove certain things and you can say, it sounds a little clearer. Ultimately, you still have something that is 3rd generation audio tape quality. Don't believe the hype, deal with what you got or find something that's higher generation. But these rehash collections are phony.
