Isn't it just one of the most intriguing couplets to open up a pop song with - really draws your attention to the lyrics from the off! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

i really don't think he's confused about his sexuality. what he's doing, and has always done, is to subvert stereotypical notions of gender & sexuality (just think if i was your girlfriend. or anna stesia) in order to make listeners think and to question theirselves.
in a world that loves putting people in boxes, challenging them on fundamental areas like this is a brave move, and for me has always been one of the main things (outside the music itsslef) that puts prince head & shoulders above most other artists who operate within a far more limited frame of reference. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Agreed! IMHO, Prince understands the transcendence of gender--his original symbol is an, ahem, symbol of this. Just like he understands the transcendence of colour, with his allusion to the rainbow in various songs, such as "Papa". regards, andyf --------
