No he wasnt scared of him they used to hang out. And as much as he over did the swagger thing he stayed in his lane re: P. I remember him saying stuff about P was the Little Richard of that day and he was the Jerry Lee Lewis. Last time I looked at his site he broke down the importance of Gilligan's Island. Rock stardom is a helluva drug.
Short lived professional jealousy marred by rumors that TTD tried to force his tongue down P's throat and embellished by TTD thinking he was the greatest thing since tampons. Everytime an artists gets high off their own fame....reality kicks their ass swiftly and painfully. David Bowie didn't help matters by swelling up TTD's head.
MJ, however, felt threatened by both of them. He couldn't do anything about Prince as Prince was on a different label, but TTD was on Columbia, owned by Sony, and it's been established that MJ pressured Sony to not push TTD too much.
Also, John Branca took on TTD as a client, and Michael pressured John to stop working with him.
This is what i brought up in my post, im glad you addressed this. I had heard rumors about MJ and Trent but no details.
This thread should be moved to Non-Prince and really renamed 'MICHAEL JACKSON'S FEAR OF TERRENCE TRENT DARBY DURING THE LATE 80'S AND EARLY 90'S'
Francesco? seriously? he gave himself a middle name when he changed over? if the music he's making isn't indication enough, the "Francesco" is complete proof he's disappeared up his own ass.
Would Aloysious been more appropriate?
I'm sure it'll show up in the string of random words that he's named himself any day now. The more words he adds to it, the more obscure he gets.

Francesco is not random. He chose this name when he married his loved wife Francesca in the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi and got baptised there. His mother's name is Frances and he named his newborn son Francesco too.

Thats where the actual story is.
Id like to hear more.
Funny I heard the same story of a Sony Artist being concerned over TTD - BUT that artist was revealed as George Michael who was concerned that Sony US would only push a few UK artists and at the time both TTD and GM were cracking the US market.
For the record, Terence has been complimentary about both P and MJ yet not so nice in comments about George Michael.
"I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"
Is it true that Prince feared "the braided one" or later called "the blonde one" Terrence Trent Darby. At the 1987 Grammy Awards, both Prince and M.J looked started to see this young upstart come on to the music scene. Was he afraid of TTD?

TTD was never considered a UK artist though. He only lived in the UK for a year or so.
Any fear that Prince had of Terrence Trent Darby probably had mroe to do with Darby basically "outting" Prince and de-masculating him on national television, than his musical abilities.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
I know they recorded 1 or 2 songs together in L.A. that are locked up in "the vault"
I so would love to hear those.
I am very sure they respect each other as artists a lot and I remember Prince gave him a shout out on his website around the time Wildcard was relaesed on the internet for free.
You, of all people, might be able to grab some info about all this (their relationship and possible recording session)
I have no idea what Prince thought of TTD but TTD is one of the most tragic spoiling of a career than i've ever witnessed. He had incredible talent and his first four albums promised a musical career that could equal Prince's in terms of quality (though not in quantity), and his talent as a composer/arranger/musician was waaaay beyong Michael Jackson's or George Michael's. I just don't understand what happened to him that made him lose his musical edge after the late 90's. Being a now independant artist, he could have done whatever he thought of without having to care about being "commercial", and instead of going wilder he just became another generic black rock artist

Sorry I don't have any special info about that at all. Maybe Jedination does.

I completely agree

Sorry, TTD could not touch MJ. Hell neither can Prince. Both Prince and MJ are like two separate candles lit, and one can never blow out the flame of the other. Heck I'm sure that TTD would even tell you that.

IMO both TTD's and Prince's music is on a way higher level than MJ's. I could imagine though that Sananda would indeed agree with you, but then I would disagree with him .

God knows that i love Michael, but take away Quicy Jones, Teddy Riley and other producers and talented musicians he worked with, and we have no clue what would have been left. TTD, like Prince, is his own band and producer.

Symphony or Damn and Vibrator are better than pretty much all Prince 90s albums.
Absolutely.
They get more playtime then any post 1992 P albums on my iPhone.
The sequence Surrender-TTD's recurring dream-Super Model Sandwich w Cheese on Vibrator is, IMHO, a masterpiece
Really? I will revisit those one of these days. Didn't you guys get the feeling after his second album that he was "over-intellectualizing" himself? I am not into an P vs TTD contest here - so maybe this thread should indeed be renamed nd moved to another forum - but that's the feel I increasingly got from his music. Masterly crafted, yes, but overly discerning and forced at that.
TTD was extremely bold and cocky I recall an interview he did in 1988....when Prince's name popped up,he said "What's up? Why can't we have two genuises in this decade?"
I am very sure they respect each other as artists a lot and I remember Prince gave him a shout out on his website around the time Wildcard was relaesed on the internet for free.

No, not really . Like I said, I don't have any info on the TTD Prince colloberation.

What'd Bowie say?
Bowie was on the TTD train and calling him the greatest new artist of that decade or some crap - praising his album and if I'm not mistaken, even having him as his opening act. It was like TTD was legitimized just cuz Bowie liked him. At least that's what I've read about TTD's rise to fame and the admireres along the way.
Wow, that is real interesting if they did in fact record together. Wonder if that will ever get released.
Yes they definitely did record something(s) together...Sananda said so in one of his newsletters.
He said it's in Prince's vault and whether or not it ever gets heard is up to Prince.
I have audio of Sananda talking about Prince, the recording and such. he did it for my show a few years back. there is definitely atleast one song, maybe two.. I just don't remember.
Yeah, although I dug his first album, somewhere close after his second, his music really started to "make sense to no one... but himself", rather than being neither fish nor flesh.
Symphony or Damn and Vibrator are better than pretty much all Prince 90s albums.
really? i only liked d'arby's singles, his actual albums weren't that good to me...and prince's 90s albums were better than some of his 80s IMO...Sign O the Times and Lovesexy bores me, yet Gold Expereince is awesome, same with Chaos and Disorder
