2. Cindy C. (6:15)

[img:$uid]http://www.chrisbeetles.com/gallery/images/pictures/C26158-b.jpg[/img:$uid]
BOURDON ST, LONDON, 26 APRIL 1988

During the 1980s and 1990s, Cindy was among the most popular supermodels, a ubiquitous presence on magazine covers, runways, and in fashion campaigns. In July, 1988, she became the first modern supermodel to pose nude for Playboy magazine, in a shoot by photographer Herb Ritts. In October, 1998 Crawford returned to the pages of Playboy for a second, more revealing nude pictorial. That issue was one of the magazine's all-time biggest sellers.

Cindy C.

Yeah!
This song's about a high-class model over in Paris, France (Oh Cindy C.)
If I get a camera, tell me will U dance? (Will U play with me?)
If I take a picture in the middle of the night (Oh Cindy C.)
Will U funk with me, sugar? (Will U funk with me?)
Say it's alright, come on (Say it, say it)

CHORUS:
(Cindy C., play with me)
(I will pay the usual fee)
Ah Cindy C. (What's it gonna be?)
Will U play with me? (What's it gonna be?)
(Cindy C., play with me)
(I will pay the usual fee)
Ah Cindy C. (What's it gonna be?)
I'll pay the fee (Cindy C.)

Super-fine heifer, U're so bloody vogue (Super fine)
I knew U would be trouble (trouble, trouble) from the word go (go, go)
I'll give U 7 sips of elderberry wine (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7)
Maybe we'll unlock the secrets of your mind

CHORUS

The passion's in the mix (Serve it up, Sheila)
Drink it quick Cindy – shit!
Where'd U get that beauty mark?
Baby, U and I should be undressing

Don't all girls look the same?
They don't? Oh, what a shame
Cindy, Cindy - I'll pay the usual fee
What's the matter, don't U like me?

(Poppy, tell me what it's all about)

I'm talkin' 'bout a long crucial leg

(Cindy C. – listen 2 me)

Girl, if I have 2 beg

(She's so tired)

I'ma see U in your birthday suit 2night

(Look at me)
(She doesn't look as good as I do)

I'm sure U're quite intelligent

(U think she does, but think again)
(See? How 'bout that?) (Ha, ha, ha)

A whiz at math and all that shit
But I'm, I'm a tad more interested in flyin' your kite 2night

(Look at her, she can't even walk in those shoes)
(I can walk better than that)
(She can't even dance)
(I would put somethin' on her she ain't never seen before)

Baby, is that alright?

(Cindy C.)

Oh Cindy C., will U play with me?
I'll pay the usual fee

2 organ solos 2 go

Oh Cindy C. {repeat}
(Yeah)

Oh Cindy C., will U play with me?
Oh Cindy C., I will pay the fee
Ah Cindy C., will U play with me?
Ah Cindy C., I will pay the fee

Help me! (Ah shit)
Uh!

Excuse my savoir-faire
But baby, I'm dyin' 2 take U everywhere (Oh yeah?)
I wanna show U 2 my friends (Ha ha ha)
Because baby, U're the living end (Tell me now)
Baby, U have a debt worth winning
I can feel your ice is thinning
Like a frozen pond in spring (Woo)
Your furry melting thing awaits me (Ah)
Your furry melting thing awaits me and my 6-string
(Oh Cindy C., will U play with me?)

(Cindy, where are U?)
Come on Cindy (Oh my God)
Come on Cindy (Wait)
Don't U wanna play with me? (Uh yes, no, wait)
Don't U wanna play with me? (Yes)
What's the matter with me, Cindy? (Nothing)
Ahhh!

Shockadelia!

Oh Cindy C., won't U play with me?

{Rap from "Music Is The Key" by J.M. Silk}
Music is the key 2 set yourself free
From depression, drugs and increasing poverty
The key is 2 the lock, the lock is on the door
The door has a knob that U never turned before
The jack, use the jack, it opens up the lock
Cuz there's the key 2 unlock the body
Place it like that 2 open up the door
The door 2 the house 4 the people galore
The beat won't stop till the J.M. jocks
And he jacks the box till the party rocks
The clock tick-tocks and the place gets hot
And believe it or not, all the troubles U forgot
It's just that easy if U want it 2 be
4 all the fellas and the young ladies
So ease your mind and set yourself free
2 the mystifying music that we call Cindy C.

Oh Cindy C., won't U play with me?
Oh Cindy C.

Music was better on this one, but Madhouse as a 'band' didn't showcase.

Probably because the Lovesexy tour was very extended.

But I believe there were some shows in Minneapolis and others where Madhouse w/Prince did after shows or off night performances, doing Prince material as well.

I don't remember any videos 4 this album??

US version (Cat: 25677-1)

In former years the consensus was that less than six US vinyls survived.

However according to Alan Leeds, who was Prince's former tour/production/paisley park manager, personal assistant and coordinator there are surely more than six. But they are not out on the collector's market. He claims that Prince had at least hundred and gave away most of them to band members, friends and other artists like Madonna, Miles Davis, Sheena Easton, Sheila E and Kim Basinger. Also many of the Paisley staff took one each. He's also thinks that the some Warner employees also managed to get one, although Warner's did go on a sort of lockdown the day it was cancelled and an executive was given the responsibility to gather whatever advance copies were floating around their offices.

According to a post in a forum from philly1247, who worked at a WEA's distribution facility, several original US non-promo copies survived. Several co-workers took some copies when they heard that the release was cancelled.

[img:$uid]http://www.twelvebar.com/astorytotell/uploaded_images/prince-lovesexy-tour2-792479.jpg[/img:$uid]

I make no apologies whatsoever for returning repeatedly throughout the pages of A Story To Tell to the purple genius that is Prince Rogers Nelson. After all, a man with a reputed virtual lifetime’s worth of songs, hidden album projects, videos and god knows what else in his vaults Is surely worthy of our attention every now and then. And that is the thing with Prince, his output is so prodigious that there is just so much to say about him.

And I don’t even count myself to be particularly knowledgeable, certainly when compared to the reams and reams of information that can be unearthed on fan sites across the world wide web. Seriously, the amount that has been written on forgotten bootlegs, rumoured side-projects, lost albums is itself a sight to behold. I came across one the other day which is all about a rumoured song that can only be found in the vaults of the US Library of Congress, a song written but rejected in 1988 for Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” album, entitled “By Alien Means”. Almost worth a trip to DC for. I say almost, but trust me there are plenty of fans who would have made that crazy pilgrimage, and more power to them I say. That is truly dedication. But I wanted to talk briefly here about a song which is one of those that is fully released and available, indeed featuring on 1988’s incredible “Lovesexy” album, but rarely heralded or commented upon.

To me however it epitomises much of what there is to love about Prince, through it’s obvious musical accomplishment, but also the innovation that lies behind it and seeps out of the speakers on each listen. The song in question is the skittering funk of “Dance On”, a tune that continues the social commentary of “Sign O The Times” in terms of its subject matter, but which does so to a syncopation of stunning complexity. For some this jars as an aural experience, the amalgam of a frenetic drum pattern interspersed with some rock guitar licks and a driving bass (indeed the running bass throb sounds remarkably like the source for Q-Tip’s solo stormer “Breathe and Stop” but I am unsure if this is truly the case).

Whatever the case, for me this song does something that perhaps even the master of 80s funk didn’t set out to achieve. Because “Dance On” is a song that packs so much funk per ounce into its tiny body, that it almost transcends the music that it is rooted in. If funk is the groove that gets into your soul and shakes your booty in a primeval sex-swamp, then “Dance On” is a record that is so damn funky it goes over the precipice and takes the funk a step further in evolution, into a place where the usual rules don’t apply. It is a dance record with so much groove you can’t actually dance to it. Now that, my friends, is the true source.

An over the top appraisal you may feel, but it is a point worth making in urging a repeat listen to this tune, and indeed the whole of the “Lovesexy” set, an album which commercially marked a slight downturn for Prince, but which is a stunning collection for all sorts of reasons, some of which we have mentioned, and some we will doubtless return to. For now though, if you can catch the groove, just dance on, dance on*

Dead On It

Riding in my Thunderbird on the freeway
I turned on my radio 2 hear some music play
I got a silly rapper talking silly shit instead
Sayin' the only good rapper is one that's dead on it
Uh, dead on it
Shall we go back? (Yeah!)
Let's go

Negroes from Brooklyn play the bass pretty good
But the ones from Minneapolis play it like it oughta should
A mackin' fro is better when U got a blue bonnet
And the 2 and fro is funky when the grease is dead on it
Funky dead on it
Uh, dead on it
Shall we go back?
Let's go

Funky dead on it, wow

See, the rapper's problem usually stem from being tone deaf
Pack the house then try 2 sing, there won't be no one left
On it

Parking lots on fire, brothers peelin' outta town
They say in disgust, been singin' their guts
Rappin' done let us down (down, down)
We got 2 be dead on it
Dead on it (Dead)

All the sisters like it when U lick 'em on the knees
Don't believe me? (No)
Do it once then stop
They'll be beggin' please, please, please (please, please, please)

Shoo bee doo wa, dead on it

What does that have 2 do with the funk? Nothing!
But who's payin' the bills?
If U don't wanna lick my knees
I'm sho' your mama will, uh
Cuz we, cuz we, cuz we dead on it
De..de..de..de..de..dead on it, on it

La, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

My bed's a coffin, Dracula ain't got shit on me
My nickname's Hellzapoppin', I'm badder than the wicked witch
I got a gold tooth cost more than your house
I got a diamond ring on 4 fingers, each one the size of a mouse
They dead, they dead on it

(Asses is crackin') {x2}

La, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la {x2}

Wait now, hang up, dial tone on the 3
U know, U know I'm busy, 2 scizzy
Can't nobody fuck with me!
Cuz I'm dead (on it, on it, on it) on it

(Shoo bee doo wa wa, dead on it)

Dead on it, on it, on it {fade out}
Dang, dang, dang, dang (Dead on it)
Shoo bee dang, dang, dang, dead on it
Dead, dead on it

intro: Anna Fantastic aka Anna Garcia

music 2 the mini motion picture: R U Legal Yet?(Madhouse) Anna Waiting, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, Pink Cashmere, 18 & Over

At the age of sixteen, Anna met the musician Prince at his concert in London. At seventeen, she lived with Prince in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On Anna's 18th birthday, Prince gave her a pink cashmere coat, thus leading to the song "Pink Cashmere" that would be released in 1993. Anna inspired the songs "Vicki Waiting" (an 18th-birthday gift for Anna, originally titled "Anna Waiting") and "Lemon Crush" (her favorite drink) on Prince's Batman soundtrack from 1989. She also wrote the song "Fantasia Erotica," which resurfaced on Carmen Electra's debut album in 1992. Liner notes from the Batman soundtrack, released in 1989, credits Garcia as "Anna Fantastic." Anna is featured on the Prince Madhouse #3 album, on the 18-minute song "The Dopamine Rush Suite," and is credited as Anna Garcia

R U Legal Yet?

R U Legal Yet?

My fathers got a shot gun

I hope he doesn't use it

18 & over, I wants 2 bone ya
18 & over

Electricity (Electricity)
Plug it in if U dare, plug it in if U dare
This motherfucker's so fast, it eats underwear
So there, my little sweet sugar bear
If that ain't enough 2 make U throw your hands in the air
Then I'm all gone like the horns in this song (Oh oh oh oh!)
Cuz I gots 2 keep U comin' till the early morn'
And if U like that, then U can come back
And if U don't - smack! And I'm out

18 & over, I wants 2 bone ya

This is where she wants 2 be
And I am what she wants 2 see
I've never known a love so sweet
But still I keep Vicki waiting
Alright

Rave un2 the joy fantastic — Rave!
Rave un2 the joy fantastic — Rave!

(Come on sugar) (Ooh)

World full of lovers, city full of good time — Rave!
Don't go undercover, I can get U out of yo mind, come on — Rave!
All U need is a good walk and a brand new position
Then we can spread the real soul, doin' it like a mission — Rave!

Anna Garcia a.k.a Anna Fantastic a name which was given to her by Prince. "I always knew that music was what I was going to do," You can here that desire in Anna's voice. It's a voice that's sweet, sassy and sultry with a hint of bad girl edge. Anna Fantastic's brand of soul is both infectious and intoxicating. With the love of music and the desire to perform driving here, Anna Fantastic at the age of 10 began studing vocal and dance at the world renowned Sylvia Young theatre School of London.

After high school Anna decided to take her dreams to the next level and began singing in talent shows through out Europe when she landed a deal with Arista Records/Europe with her first string of dance singles. Pink Cashmere

Ooh, here I go again fallin' in love all over
Ooh, the cycle never ends, U just pray U don't get burned
Ooh, this fire inside of me, don't nobody realize
(Ooh) Ow, what U are 2 me, but baby U got 2 learn

CHORUS:
I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere
U got 2 know how I feel about ya, how I always want U near
I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere
I'm countin' every minute of every hour til U are here

Girl, can U understand I never used 2 go dancin'?
I... I was the kind of man who'd rather stay at home
Now when I think about how.. how much I miss U
I wanna jump 4 joy and thank Him I'm not alone (I am not alone)

Ooh, I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere
U got 2 know how I feel about U baby, how I always want U near
I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere (Pink cashmere)
I'm gonna count every minute of every hour until U are here
(Till U are here)

Here I go again fallin' in love all over
Oh, the cycle never ends (Cycle never endin')
U pray U don't get burned

(I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere)
I'm makin' U a coat.. cashmere, baby, cashmere
(U got 2 know how I feel about ya, how I always want U near)
U got 2 know, yeah baby, baby, baby, baby
(I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere)
How I feel about U, how I feel about U, oh
(I'm countin' every minute of every hour til U are here)

When I get my arms around U baby (Yeah) (CHORUS)
There's so many things I'm gonna do
I'm gonna hug U, I'm gonna kiss U
Like your, like your own guru
I'm gonna tell U a bedtime story baby
One U never heard before (Every minute, every hour)
I said one U never heard before (How I feel about U)
About a girl, about a boy (I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere)
And all their joy
All the things they show each other (Coat of pink cashmere {x3})
How 2 stay in love, how 2 stay so happy
Baby girl, so many things, so many things I'm gonna do
Can U come 2 that, can U get 2 that?
I'm gonna make... gonna... I'm gonna, gonna, gonna...
Gonna make a little pretty pink coat of cashmere

Cuz U got 2 know how I feel about U baby
How I feel about U baby
I'm gonna make a little pretty coat
I'm gonna count every second, every minute
Each and every hour of every day til U come on back
Come on back 2 your little man

I'm gonna make U a coat of cashmere baby

The Line
This song was recorded with the Lovesexy tour band in late 1987. Prince wrote the song in response to a poem by Ingrid Chavez called "The Line." It is a sparse, monotonous bass-driven rock number with prominent vocals by Boni Boyer & Sheila E. The song borrows some music and lyrics from "Take My Hand, Precious Lord" (by Thomas A. Dorsey). Toward the end, a new dance called "The Kangaroo" is introduced. The theme of "crossing the line" was used in the Lovesexy shows. It has a similar feel to the Future rel on the Batman soundtrack

The Line

Can U talk 2 me with your body, baby?
Can U tell me what I wanna hear?
Can U lay on me a good enough reason 2 cross the line?
Yeah, ho! {x2}

Can U be my lover and still be my friend? (Can U be my friend?)
Can U stick with me till the bitter end? (The bitter end)
Can U lay on me a good enough reason 2 cross the line?
Yeah, ho! (Cross the line)

CHORUS:
The line, line - it's a happy step 2 make
It takes time, time - all is what it takes
The line, line - and soon your life is so much better
The water's so much better on the other side (Cross the line)

Can U tolerate? Why am I not so free?
How I did the plan
Can U understand I'm a free man?
But will I stop the dam if I don't cross the line?
Yeah, ho! {x2}
Ow!

Hey
Cross the line sugar, cross the line {x2}
Cross the line

CHORUS

(Cross the line)

Cross the line sugar, cross the line {x3}

I want U 2 cross the line, hey! {used as sample in "Acknowledge Me"}
Talk 2 me, say the things I wanna hear, oh!
Cross the line

Cross the line

Cross the line
Baby, baby, baby, can U make me cross the line?
Cross the line, sugar, cross the line
U know U got 2 cross the line!

(New dance) {repeat in BG}
People, people, I got a brand new dance {x2}
Ain't talkin' 'bout Housequake! No!
Ain't talkin' 'bout Shake 'N' Bake! No!
Ain't talkin' 'bout Rice-O-Roni! No!
I'm talkin' 'bout Macaroni? No!
Lord have mercy

Boni? (What?)
On the 2 (Yeah!)
What we gonna do? (Kangaroo!)
Say it! (Kangaroo!)
Come on
Boni? (What?)
On the 2 (Yeah!)
What U wanna do? (Kangaroo!)
Do the do (Do the do!)

Cross the line {repeat}
Baby, baby, baby, cross the line {repeat 2 fade}

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, help me stand
I try, I have need, I am whole
Through the door, through the shore
Precious Lord, I believe in your name

A Paisley Homecoming

Prince's return to Minneapolis to open the US leg of his Lovesexy tour

was an auspicious homecoming. After his show, he & some 500 guests including Miles Davis, George Clinton & Chaka Khan, as well as such former musical cohorts as Revolution members Wendy & Lisa and the Time members Jellybean Johnson, Jerome Benton, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, retired to Paisley Park studios complex to party. "That was the best show I've seen in my life." exclaimed Jam.

But there was more to come. In the small hours, Prince and the band opened a 90min. set including appearances by Clinton, Mavis Staples & Wendy and Lisa. "We're gonna play till the farmers come & get us." Prince told the crowd. True to his word, the Royal One jammed until complaints from Paisley Park rural neighbors closed the party at 4 am.

Love the Boni pictures. Would it be appropriate to discuss how apparently Prince and Boni fought voraciously on the Lovesexy tour? I've often heard that said, although I've never been clear on why. Can anyone shed some insight as to why they didn't get along? Or correct me if I've got it wrong?

During the European leg of the Lovesexy tour, Albert Magnoli was invited along to shoot footage for a proposed documentary, does anyone know what happened to this?

A 9 min segment of the docu was broadcast on 27th Sept 1989 on US tv, entitled Prince: Musical Portrait. Is this all that has ever surfaced of this project? In the UK, the BBC broadcast an hour long documentary entitled Prince Rogers Nelson, that was in Dec 1991. This documentary featured footage of Lovesexy rehearsals and interviews with the band members, does anyone know if this was the footage that was filmed by Magnoli?
