Mindreader, are you? rolleyes

I didn't post this having drawn any conclusions - or trying to push ideas on anyone. I just thought it amusing that others came out with nearly identical quotes (for whatever reasons) so soon after Prince said what he said.

Oh - and I don't know what it means to be "in kudos" with anything. Kudos are, basically, congratulations or praise given for an achievement. Which makes yours a completely nonsensical use of the word.

Like he agrees with them lol that's what I meant. Call it nonsensical lol and no I'm not a mindreader. Just trying to have a conversation. But I'll leave this thread alone. wave

You meant cahoots.

i figure, in another twenty years we will be a species divided against itself.

some will be analogs and some will be digitals. the amish are extreme examples of analogs. gamers who spend more time in virtual reality than in actual reality are early examples of extreme digitals.

we should all be able to co-exist peacefully, or, i'm thinking it's possible the digitals will turn things a little borg-ish (resistance is futile! you will be assimilated!!). eek

then again, perhaps the analogs will successfully sabotage the power stations driving the digitals and bring them down.

we will see nod smile

Right? lol

My last job in journalism was in 1991 - and we were still typing our stories on manual typewriters then. (Radio stations had no money to buy computers, which were still very pricey.)

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I love Wired but I think they, like Prince, are jumping the gun.

Actually, I think Wired and Prince are saying two completely different things. Prince wasn't saying he was interested in different platforms like the iPad.

Jokes aside, Prince wasn't even saying the internet was over like that, he just didn't get the iPods and shit. lol People are just pushing this to their own beliefs as if Prince will be in kudos with it and he probably don't care less.

I do not think that any respectable journalist really cares what Prince has to say/thinks and certainly would not try to ride the tiny "internet is dead" wave of publicity that he received recently. Prince dosen't care, but I'm pretty sure that this guy, as well as everyone else not on Prince.org, care less.

Wired said the web was dead back in 98. They were wrong then, and they're wrong now. It's more alive than ever. 90% of people's time on a computer these days is spent where? In a browser, on the web.

Say what you will about Prince being a crackpot, but don't lay a verbal finger on Ray. The guy predicted the entire scope of 21st century technology down to a tee. The only things left are the firemen. If he says we should go to the moon, we're going to the fucking moon!

Prince just likes being that little kid who likes to go against whatever's popular. The net is EVERYTHING, so he has to "publicly" hate it...but I'm very sure he uses it and an iphone or something just as much as the rest of us.

Though i will admit while the net has a lot to offer, it can fuck you over just as easily...

eye kisses prince

hear you loud n clear wink

my point is that whether anyone likes it or not, the life or death of the internet is not solely based on whether or not it is financially lucrative, for anyone.

of course prince has the right to express himself any way he wishes, but its probably pretty clear by now

that just because he's grown tired and/or bored with the internet and it's apparent inability to earn him as much money as he likes (even though the reasons for that have more to do with him than the net itself)... doesnt mean the net is dead.

it means he cant inject it with the attitude required to make it work for him. imo.

elsewhere he stated he prefers, like you, talking to 'real people', face to face, rather than on the internet.

i can respect that, its a matter of personal preference, but again, that isnt enough of a reason to declare with great bravado that the net is dead, simply because he cant discern the real people from the fakers on the net.

last i checked he has trouble discerning the real people from the fakers in 'real life', so its no wonder he doesnt stand a chance of productive interaction on the internet.

prince isnt the only one blaming the 'net' for its apparently inability to serve up the goods, and to all of them i can only say...

the net gives back to you whatever you put into it. wise up. it wasnt invented purely for selfish gain.

if you dont like the interactions ur having with people on the net, think again and choose wisely who you talk to and keep ur ego in check or it will come snapping back atcha hotter than a fireball.

complaints? phooey. who's responsible?

so with all due respect to you and your views and prince and his thoughtless comments and to anyone else who cant regard the internet as more than just a social and financial porn playground, frankly, the net doesnt give a damn what anyone thinks of it.

people always so quick to blame anything but themselves, as if a bunch of links on the net are directly responsible for someone's failure to connect.

no offence to you personally. heart

no offence taken it is healthy 2 discuss things. their is unity in diversity. I enjoyed reading ur point of view thats what makes us human the ability 2 tolerate other peoples opinions & that maybe princes prob. if u live in london dude maybe we can discuss over a pint. if not speak 2 u online in the future.

agreed. there comes a time when going against the flow and playing the rebel is egotistical at best and suicidal at worst.

his rebelious 'stuff-the-masses' attitude was relevant and needed in the 80's and 90's but not anymore.

prince has chosen to jump off a ship he thought was sinking but in reality it was saving his ass.

if he'd been able to let go and trust the process instead of lacing the technology with his ego he'd be singing a very different tune now.

out of pity i'll offer him my candle-bearing services when he boycotts electricity because it wouldnt light his lights the way he wanted it to and declared electricity dead because he couldnt interact with it properly.

thanks for the offer to hook up, appreciate it, bit too far away unfortunately, but i guess that's the beauty of the internet...

it eliminates space, and time.

i'm totally gobsmacked prince wrote a sing called the everlasting now and wrote about telepathy "reading minds' and never made the connection between those two things and the internet.

but he's obviously enjoying living amongst all those 'real' people, where he's in control, or so he thinks.

if i had 3 backing singers who giggled every time i said anything even remotely funny, i'd wanna slit my wrists at the banality of it all.

but thats just me.

NONSENSE

I understand why Prince says the "Web is dead." The internet died because it has morphed into something it never was supposed to be... Now every moron has a computer & wants to spam, talk trash, and hate. Remember the good ol' dayz of A.M.P.? How about Deja News, Pseudo.com, chat rooms, and intelligent converstation?
