3121 aftershow...Friday, February 9, 2007. (Actually, it was Saturday morning when he played.) Two hours...in a room of 50 people...front row...barely five feet away from the man (close enough to have picked his pocket or pinched his ass)...with Sheila E for the second half.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

3121 jazz cuisine Feb 2007

for 2 songs he was leaning/sitting next to me, as he realized that I am watching his guitar work, turns around so I can see the fingers doing the magic on his six string. Surreal experience. Maybe 2 dozen people in that dark music room, the vibe was just magic.

Lovesexy, Ames, Iowa, November 1988. You always remember and cherish your first. I still have my ticket. The concert was mind-blowing.

Close second, though, is the relatively recent Hotel Gansevoort show in New York City (technically, it was the aftershow, beginning after midnight and running till about 4 in the morning). I was elated during that show.

The best Prince concert I ever saw was April Fools Day, 1985.

Prince & The Revolution: The Purple Rain Tour at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Everything about it was magical.

My biggest regret (Prince-wise) is that I was working in politics in 1988. When Lovesexy hit Chicago (closest to home, for me), I was at a convention where the future president was being nominated by his party, doing my press gig.

I missed the entire tour. pout

Living in MPLS, I've been to dozens of them. 3 spring to mind:

1. Musicology shows in Saint Paul in 2004.

2. 1st Ave Aftershow 2007.

3. Paisley Park 1995 (my 1st).

stillwaiting

1 Purple Rain, April 1985 in Tallahassee

2 ONA, April 2002 in Atlanta(first show a little better)

3 ONA April 2002 in Atlanta

4 ONA April 2002 in Lakeland

5 ONA Celebration June 2002 in Chanhassen...deciding which night...uh...too difficult

6 Musicology June 2004 Bossier City

7 Musicology Aug 2004 Atlanta(2nd show little better than the first)

8 Musicology April 2004 Jacksonville

9 Musicology April 2004 Tampa

10 Act 1 March 1993 Ft Lauderdale(Sunrise)

Just making this list brings back some great memories...meeting this lovely woman in Atlanta, where I overcame much shyness to talk to her, but find out she is converting to the JW's, and had to give up on her. Wow her smile was as powerful as anything I had seen...

Anyway, enough memories...I consider myself lucky to have been to 39 shows from 1985-2004. Just wish he would tour anywhere near me again...

LOVESEXY MPLS NIGHT 1 #1.5

I've been to maybe 20 or so shows since Purple Rain in MPLS.

But, those 2 kind of stand out for awesomeness.

21st Sept 2007 gig and aftershow...th gig alone was great but to be followed by q close proximity 3 hr afteshow of that standard blew my socks off (and almost my pants as I needs a wizz so badly but refused to move).

I just feel sooooo sorry for the lady in font of me who fainted and got carried out before he'd even started

Well here's one.

I was in MPLS working as a video editor for Chris Moon (!).

Chris was making industrial films.

The Symbol Tour was going to be at Glam Slam that very night.

Super psyched.

Phone rings.

I pick up. (mistake)

Chris's associate requests that I drive out to Wisconsin at a chicken slaughtering house and film ALL NIGHT LONG.

Prince or chicken slaughtering warehouse?

I chose the work.

Worked all freaking night in a scene from hell.

My friend tells me all about the show. Only chance I would have had to see all those songs in that setting.

The woman that works with Chris calls me up and says the footage is unuseable and I'm fired.

I have nothing.

And I missed the Symbol show.

Lesson learned:

Always go to the Prince show.

I was too far away and felt removed from Lovesexy... wish I could go back in time and have better seats.

But I was front row center for the ONA tour in Houston. GREAT EXPERIENCE. He picked the girl in our group to bring up and play to on hids guitar.

Also the second musicology show in Houston (because of my great seats) was too cool!

And believe it or not the Jam of the Year concert in Austin was great. I was 7th row.

i think seating has a lot ot do with it... plus his energy is either hyper or not.

I'm with you on the Jam of the Year! I had centre tickets about 20 rows back, but he was absolutely on fire the night I saw him. Energy was awesome!

That said, for me it's a toss up between Gold in London, or the last night on 21nights, which was extra special with the purple glow sticks, plus Girls and Boys to close - brilliant night out

At the indigo2 in the am of the 29th August 2007. Small venue, power trio, prince rocked hard. Awesome gig.

I walked out of that one saying that, after that I didn't need to see prince play again. Of course I want to and indeed have but that gig totally fulfilled my prince rock fantasies. I still listen to the boot regularly. headbang

Yes -to be at that gig was a dream come true, it was so special, and the energy was something else.

I`d say this one and probably the first i saw - Lovesexy Frankfurt Waldstadion 1988 - are very special to me. But the last two....i enjoyed them sooo much. Berlin and Werchter. Berlin....very very ver exciting gig. And in the 90`s...ooooh. Diamonds and Pearls, Act 2...i saw various gigs at that time. All good, all exciting. But the Indigo Rock show, that would be my favorite.

Love...thy will b done

1. ONA-Frankfurt 2002 : the soundcheck made it so superspecial, leaning against the stage, watching Prince playing on the keyboard just a few meters in front , looking in his big eyes for minutes eek ....it's just beyond words for me.

Also the main concert was stunning , standing about fifth row, it was his voice/singing which touched me the most.

I think this can only be surpassed by an small clubshow, which I havn't been to yet....

2. Montreux 2009 - same core band, musically his best IMO (at least since 1990, when I've seen him for the first time live)

3. ex equo:

Vienna 20ten biggrin -fresh memories (awesome Dreamer- and Stratusversions)

and

London 2007, the last O2-purpleglow-show
