The thing is, yesterday, I was browsing all the latest UK music magazines, like Mojo and Q, and there was not one single review of 20TEN, basically because I firmly beleive that the music press just cant b bothered with him anymore and I cant say I blame them!!!! In all intents and purposes hes a has-been!!

whats even scarier than this possibly being the beginning of the end is if Prince isnt aware of the reality of his public status

i wonder if things will ever get to the stage where he's got people around him saying 'no no no u've still got it ur the best u always will be ur still as hip and popular as u've always been go get em tiger!'... and he believes them despite all evidence to the contrary.

for some reason i'm also thinking of the time he used a decoy limo to arrive at a hotel while he went round to the back entrance...but there werent any fans at the hotel anyway. oops.

thats gotta get embarassing at some point doesnt it?

this too shall pass

His public status is bloody good. He has toured in the US for years without doing Europe at all.

Stop the crying. You have one album released per year. In fact there were three cds released last year in Target stores.

Prince fans are really embarrassing sometimes.

I'm not gonna sound overly dramatic on this. I think this album is just a passer-by. I think in a way Prince has moved on from this and probably will release his next album next year or the year after next. I'm thinking the next release could even be US-only you never know. It's happened before in the past.

LEGENDS make money touring. Prince is NO different. Who cares what he does with the album. Least he's alive to continue to give joy to fans in his own way even if we all don't approve of his methods.

For the FIRST time in his career, Prince cannot or does not want to release his new album in the USA...neutral

this is sad, and dangerous.

I THINK HE'S JUST LOSING IT. He doesn't care about the Internet, he doesn't care about the industry, he doesn't care about the ways his albums are released, he doesn't care about his fans, he doesn't care about his core audience of the USA (or the rest of the world, for that matter)...the return of the freak, the weirdo, the return of the "I like to be in the wilderness, cuz I NEED to be different than the rest of the world...", the return of the dreadful 97-03 years...???? shit, fuck, shit disbelief

what's his future? to write new music only for a select audience that will get his new CDs via european newspapers or via rapidshare (like the american audience is doing right now)?? Is this what we deserve? do we have to travel to Germany or the UK?? IS THAT IT?? neutral

...THIS IS SERIOUS...I'M scared...For the first time, I can feel that Prince TRULY doesn't give a FUCK about his music anymore...so arrow possible "retirement" (sort of) in the near future?? just like Bowie did??

Discuss...

And btw the USA ain't the center of the world. When LF was released thru Target only in 2009 (and only had a limited French release 6 months later, but none in other european countries), we people here didn't start to be scared or to think this is the end of the world as we knew it.

I knew once I read the "Ebony" magazine article that something was coming & we all knew an album was in the works. But not once in that article did it mention anything about 20ten at all which he knew at the time it wasn't coming out in the states. I think it will be released in the USA at some point but I think it's a distribution thing that's holding it up. Let's just hope & if this were the end(which I highly doubt) I really enjoyed his overall touch he has put on my life!

Hell, not just the youth but anyone under 30 thinks Prince is a joke. It's sad and the worst part is that the majority of the blame falls on Prince himself.

Prince is well aware that he's a has been. But I'll bet he makes more money as a has been than any other has been in the history of has been's ever has!!!!

The man's genius never ceases to amaze me.

i'm not sure that he perceives himself as a has-been

the way he talks in recent interviews comes across like he still believes all his own hype

guess i kinda get the feeling that the prince bubble is too thick for even him to pop

stories about music artists from the past who keep on going way past their due date really sadden me

like what happened with elvis - people around him wanted to make money - so they prop him up and tell him to go for it and it all ended up embarrassing for everyone

i can understand why prince would want to keep releasing records and doing live shows because he loves music so much and its been his whole life for 30 years

i just hope it doesnt get to the stage where he still thinks things like the decoy limo are necessary

and being surrounded by bodyguards when no one is trying to get anywhere near him because they just plain dont care anymore

or that the costumes and make-up are gonna make a bit of difference

or that who he wears on his arm has any impact on anything relevant

or even how he releases his music is of any interest to anyone except the press who'll just use it to gossip about for a day then move on

if he's in any way trapped inside the "I'M PRINCE" machine then i hope he finds a way out

this too shall pass

I don't know why people are tripping over a perception of Prince being a has-been that's been outdated for the last 6 or 7 years.

His last album in the USA was #2 in the charts, he makes TV shows quite often, he makes successful tours that in most cases sell-out, whenever he plays in Europe the local media make a huge fuss outta it, he's got a living legend status and he earns lots of money, he managed to sign very lucrative deals that not too many artists could negociate with Sony, Universal and several major newspapers in the past 6 years, he did his 21 nights challenge and it was a success, the tickets for his last Paris shows sold 10,000 in 2 goddamn hours (i know because i heard about it after 4 hours and i was fucked up!), he still manages to release at least one album a year and obviously they do sell if he can still do it and the media still notice these releases wither they like the music or not...

So yeah, sure, many people still manage to ignore that he's still making music and some 20 years-old kids have no clue who he is, but come on!!! Prince is as much a major force in the industry as someone of his stature and generation can be! The only one who keeps making one hit after another is Madonna because she still targets the 20 years-old audience and works with producers who can help her do that and Prince doing this would be ridiculous. I don't think Prince's career is worse than the careers of David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz or even James Brown and Michael Jackson before they died.

Think about all the George Michaels and Lionel Ritchies who fell asleep over their talent and almost totally stopped making music.

& think about all the great artists such as George Clinton or The Human League, who can hardly negociate a record deal with any major label, and survive only thru touring despite the fact that they made music history!!! These people survive only thru their audience. Somehow Prince manages to survive within the industry and he does it brillantly despite awful communication fiascos such as lotuscam.com

So quit trippin' with the "has-been" and "finished" theory. prince is still in the house and weither we like his new music or we don't, weither we approve the way he handles his business or not, we're far from seeing the end of it!
