Sticky Like Glue: already a classic

Beginning Endlessly: when I heard it for the first time, I thought it was his best song since the Gold Experience days...now I think it sounds slighty cheap and bland; great song anyway...

Lavaux: retro experiment, perhaps too retro for its own good...

Compassion, Act of God & Future Soul Song: good but not great

the rest: average, at best...including Laydown which is ruined by the female voice...hmph!

Prince has been pretty damn good from start to finish.

Bullcrap.

Hilarious: "you think it's shit because your stereo isn't expensive enough!" Yeah, that's what got me into Prince, not the great tunes, no, the fact that they sounded waaaay better on an expensive stereo.

Take out your unrealistic expectations, and it is not all that bad.

Yes, how dare I demand that Prince lives up to his talent. That must make me a real hater.

(It's not like that's something that's written in that bible he looooooves to talk about. Oh wait, IT IS.)

I normally disagree with you, but you hit the nail on the head with this one, Bart. I like 20Ten, and love most of his more recent output, but lowering my expectations is not why I like it.

Nothing annoys me more than people whining about Prince "backtracking" and "forcing nostalgia"

He has a lot of different styles in his repertoire and the linndrum grooves just happen to be one of them.

What do the fans really want from him?

they complain when things are too funky and they complain when things are too rough and they complain when things are too smooth and they complain when things are too preachy and they complain when there isnt a strong message and they complain when he plays guitar and they complain when there isnt a solo and they complain when there isnt synth and they complain when it sounds too 80s and they complain when they complain.

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

I liken ELM to being a 1982 era b-side. It has a synth line very similar to Let's pretend We're Married, but the cheesiness of Ronnie Talk To Russia or Horny Toad. I came around to liking it. At first i thought "Oh great.. another "never be another like me" or "I rock therefore I am"... it's kinda goofy. I lightened up and I kinda like it now

Exactly. It totally fits the Prince of 1980-1983. I guess a lot of us are too old now to appreciate it for what it is. I figure half of his '80s output would be looked down upon by us if released today. Our age is showing. But Prince is still keeping it fresh, despite that.
