LP 1 or LP 2 of Sign o' the Times??

LP 1:

1. Sign "o" the Times

2. Play in the Sunshine

3. Housequake

4. The Ballad of Dorothy Parker

5. It

6. Starfish and Coffee

7. Slow Love

8. Hot Thing

9. Forever In My Life

LP 2:

1. U Got The Look

2. If I Was Your Girlfriend

3. Strange Relationship

4. I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man

5. The Cross

6. It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night

7. Adore

LP 1 is definitely more creatively daring but I cant resist LP 2... U Got The Look! If I Was Your Girlfriend! I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man! Adore!!

Its sooo good!

What about U? LP 1 or 2???

In 1987-1989 I would have said record 1.

Now I would say record 2.

But i think "Housequake" is just brilliant in the narrative of Prince's musical directions. And one of the greatest beginnings to a song EVER.

This would tear me apart to pick only one lp.

I think LP1 is bolder, more challenging, LP2 is catchier, loaded with tunes that were "made to be hits"... but both are great.

Incidentally, my favourite song (Adore) is in LP2.

Actually I could edit it to one CD:

1. Sign "o" the Times

2. Play in the Sunshine

3. Housequake

4. The Ballad of Dorothy Parker

5. Starfish and Coffee

6. Hot Thing

7. Forever In My Life

8. U Got The Look

9. If I Was Your Girlfriend

10. The Cross

11. It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night

12. Adore

I deleted the tracks that I do not listen to very much. Slow Love, It, Strange Relationship, ICNTTPOYM. After 23 years of listening to SOTT those 12 songs are all I tend to go back to.

I am not sure they would fit on one LP.

LP 1 would stand alone as a single album release... LP 2, not so much. But my favorite track is on Lp 2 - "If I Was Your Girlfriend"

lp 1 sounds like prince paying homage to his heros sort of

sign o the times sound like whats goin on lyrically

play in the sunshine sounds like sly and the family stone

housequake sounds like james brown

the ballad of dorothy parker is lyrically like a joni mitchel song

starfish and coffee sounds like the beatles

(hot thing always reminded me of foxy lady but i doubt any of you will feel me on that)

lp 2 is like prince doin prince

if i was your girlfriend is the most perfect song he could have done

adore a close second

srange relationship is great and i could never take the place of your man and u got the look are perfect pop songs.

lp2 is my choice

for me that edit to a single LP in 1987 (my taste back then upon first hearing the album) would have been:

1. Sign "o" the Times

2. Housequake

3. The Ballad of Dorothy Parker

4. Starfish and Coffee

5. Forever In My Life

6. If I Was Your Girlfriend

7. The Cross

8. It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night
