How I Wish Prince would Re-Release CDs. My Dream would be to do each album like this:
2 CD Deluxe Editions:
For this example, let's use "PURPLE RAIN" and then "LOVESEXY"
CD 1: PURPLE RAIN: The album untouched, but remastered (original CDs sound so low) CD 2: [Also remastered] - Darling Nikki (Backwards Excerpt) / When Doves Cry (7" single) / 17 Days (full version) / Let's Go Crazy (7" single) / EROTIC CITY (12" extended) / Let's Go Crazy (12" extended) / Let's Go Crazy (7") / PURPLE RAIN (single) / God (7" single) / God (12") / I Would Die 4 U (7") / I Would 4 U (12" extended) / Another Lonely Christmas (7") / Another Lonely Christmas (12" extended) / 4 The Tears In Your Eyes (version on CD 3/The b-sides) / 4 The Tears In Your Eyes ("We Are The World" LP version)
"LOVESEXY" CD 1: The album in continuous Sequence - REMASTERED CD 2: The album - TRACKED and REMASTERED Alphabet Street (This is Not Music, This is a trip - 12") Alphabet Street (single edit) Glam Slam (single edit) Glam Slam (12" extended) I Wish U Heaven (all versions) Escape (7" and 12") Scarlet Pussy (7" and 12")
This may take 3 CDs, dunno... but you get the picture

i want him to re release "Emancipation" so badly. it will probably never happen but sounds so beautiful. cause it would have the same stuff on it but extended mixes and he could add some new stuff like about his life and the way things have been since the divorce from mayte.

I want 20Ten Remastered with Lay It Down as track 10, and then I want 67 tracks of silence at the end, so we can all keep waiting, waiting, and waiting for some bonus, and then...nothing. That would be something new and inventive. Don't think it has been done before. One of Prince's flunkies went up to Prince and gave him two ideas that NO OTHER ARTIST had ever done before.
1. Record an album of remakes. Nobody would ever come up with such a strange, orginal, mind-blowing idea(Rod Stewart, Sting, Rod Stewart, George Michael, Rod Stewart, Michael McDonald, Rod Stewart, Huey Lewis, Hall & Oates, Rod Stewart, Steve Miller Band, and Rod Stewart.)
2. Place a bonus track on at the end of an album!!!! NOBODY HAS EVER THOUGHT OF THIS MIND BLOWING HIDDEN TRACK IDEA. (Nirvana, They Might Be Giants, The Fixx, some band called the New Power Generation, where the guy on the cover looked a lot like Prince.)
Of course, nobody told Prince that somebody had done the hidden bonus track thing. Then the flunkie forgot to tell Prince that Prettyman, and Wasted Kisses were the same thing, and that THOUSANDS of other Artists had done the hidden bonus track, and there were tears falling at Paisley Park.
Much love to Prince. I love 20Ten the album, but had to clown him about the Hidden Track. Like where is the track hiding? In some of Prince's unpaid bills?
THis post is presewnted to you ass-is with mistakes, and bad sepelling, cuz I wanted to.

You may be the only one in the universe who wants the Non-Tracked Version re-done. Also, 4 The Tears In Your Eyes was released after Purple Rain, so to me, it would make more sense to place it on a special edition of Around the World In A Day...but I am starting to think Prince and Warners will have wasted so much time on this...that nobody will care anymore.
This Post is presented to you ASS-is, with mistakes, some intentinal, some unintentional, and spelling mistakes, some due to Windows XXP, some due to me, and some doo doo 2 u.

That Purple Rain compilation tracklist is horrible.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
For the last guy... Including the Purple Rain-era non-album versions is horrible? For including remastered versions of b-sides and 12" versions... Why is that so horrible?? For the other person that replied about the tracked version of Lovesexy... Guess I don't really need anything beyond "Anna Stesia" standalone... I like making my own Prince Best Of CDs and all Warner CDs pre-1994 sound so shitty... Like a cassette (see Lovesexy, see first 3 Time CDs)...I really just want better sound quality...

No one wants a remastered 7" version of a song. Such a waste of space and time. There are outtakes from that era that are much more desireable. Like what? Try "Wednesday". Try perhaps the longer "Computer Blue", the unreleased "Erotic City", the longer versions of "Take Me With U", "The Beautiful Ones", "Darling Nikki".
"Father's Song" would be nice.
"4 The Tears" really relates more to 1985, in a lot of ways. The WATW album was 1985 I believe. Put that on ATWIAD, because even style-wise, it isn't a PR track.
Sure, add the 12" to "Let's Go Crazy", "Erotic City", "Another Lonely Christmas", and if there's room, the whole 30 minute version of "I Would Die 4 U" 12".

The 7" edits are more or less butchered originals, cut down to fit a formula that can suit radio. Why would anyone want those today? Sure .. they are the hits as people "know" them (and those hit-junkies can go and get a properly remastered hits collection (if one could get one of those) since they most likely don't care about context). 12" would be more of a bonus, than the same-old-same-old 7".
Rather: Squeeze in some live recordings of well known songs from the surrporting tour in crystal clear remasters that'll surpass the bootlegs in sound quality, or make an entire bonus cd just with concert material from the time. That is, if one doesn't think that outtakes would be far, far more interesting to see on official cd, which I'd honestly much rather see released.
Hasn't this thread been done twice a day the past year? Oh. [Edited 8/6/10 1:32am]

I totally agree,
But I'd add 'Electric Intercourse' to it.

The remastering would be nice, but I have most of those bonus tracks. Not sure I'd bother to buy them again (unless the remastering is really good). Unreleased tracks and takes and live albums from the era would be a wonderful accompaniment, though.
It's not going to happen, obviously.
And while it's nice to be nostalgic, it's wonderful that Prince is putting his energies into new music instead of remasters. When I was a fan in the 80s, I would have preferred to think that Prince would still be touring and recording new work twenty years later, rather than just repackaging the stuff I liked then. Both would be nice, but there isn't time to do both, and it's clear where his passion lies.

well.. in case of re-release cds i would like to see/ear not ony single edit o extendend versions of commercial releases, but i'd really like to find outtakes outtakes and outtakes again.
like extended Computer Blue as intended before Prince recorded Take me with U. or all the materials recorded for Parade, like the orchestral versions of Girls and Boys, Sometimes it snows in april. etc. etc.
this is what i'd like. maybe not only 2cd set but 3cd set for every re-released

Yep, totally forgot that one, but it's a must have.

For Cravens: Sorry, I'm new to posting here...so sorry if this post is redundant...
For Sean:
You've seen remasters of CDs from nearly every artist.... from the Cure, to Depeche Mode, to Bob Dylan, everyone...
All I am saying is, albums like "Purple Rain", "Dirty Mind", and "Sign O The Times" are pure fuc***ng classics... It's a shame to have cassette-like sound as a best case when the artistic quality is so fantastic.
Keep in mind, I buy ALL Prince albums... I have every album he's done... Including "20Ten", every 12" in near mint or better, and some bootlegs, but not all...
I am not saying "I only want the nostalgic 80s albums..." - I simply want the albums that are on my top 20 of all artists of all time get the treatment they deserve. But you're right, it probably won't happen... especially with people getting so cheap and leaning toward low-quality 256kbps downloads over CDs... CDs are dwindling away and while I have these songs, I'd love to see the quality stepped-up, to get the treatment it deserves before CDs are gone.. and I was hoping the sightings of Prince going to Warner Brothers in Burbank was a sign this could happen?? Not sure...

Prince is the obviously the reason why we haven't seen this happen yet. Prince and Madonna had to be WB's biggest selling artists in the 80's. Madonna's remastered versions with the remixes came out nearly 10 years ago, but then again she is still selling cds by the millions. As far as the outtakes, I think there is a reason why those songs didn't make it on the final cut of the album...Prince didn't think they were worthy then, and probably doesn't think about them too much today. He could care less what the fans want. TRUE BLUE

Why not just have Dirty Mind through (tracked) Lovesexy, a barely remastered Black Album (gotta maintain the rawness), D&P, and TGE without the fucking segues, and Emancipation? I think that'd satisfy just about everyone.

Just put my mind to work...if you take a tracked version of Lovesexy, and just hit play, and don't touch the damb thing ever again.... you can turn it instantly into a continuous cd. If you take the continuous one, and try to skip ahead, then you are screwed. As much as I loved Lovesexy, I simply put the cd on tape, as I had moved away from vinyl at the time.
