Songs that you didn't like or notice until you heard them live I don't really like the recorded versions of shhh or strange relationship, but they are 2 of my favorite songs to hear live. Also, i didn't really pay much attention to I love u but I don't trust u anymore until I heard it live, and now it's probably my favorite ballad. I know this has happened to more than just me. What is your main problem?

For me it would be Anna - Stesia, the ONA live version kills the recorded version "was i the first, was i your every fantasy"

Never appreciated 'Blue Light' until I heard him play it live - sounded flat and kinda 'meh' on record, live it was great.

Are you nuts??? Sheeeyyit, the ONA version is crap compared to the studio version or even the versions he did on the Lovesexy Tour. You can just feel the emotion in the music and his guitar when he performed it then.
The ONA version felt like a cover band doing Anna Stesia, plain and simple. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

LOL, that's why i clarified it and said 'For me'.....I feel a lot more emotion in the ONA live version, the vocal tone in the recording seems flat to me...i aint hating on the OG, just prefer the live "was i the first, was i your every fantasy"

This topic always brings me to the 1985 interview on MTV when Prince was asked about the Parade album. He said it was "funky" and even "funkier live". This still rings true for me with most of his material. I'll take a live version that was played with the band he was with at the time when any particular album came out, over almost any of the album recordings. Especially Gold and Come material. That time I had heard most of the songs live first, then the studio recording. TRUE BLUE

Bambi killed me... on record it didn't stand out to me at the time because I was a teen into R&B and funk. So this type of tune wasn't my style and I didn't pay much attention to it... until I heard him play this live during the Lovesexy tour.
OMG!!!! That tour That song rocked my world, the guitar riffs were crazy! I adored this song ever since.
I searched hard to find a copy of this song played live, it just has a different energy.

You must mean the Nude tour??? Agreed though, the live versions kick ass. Most notably from the Japanese televised Nude show, the Undertaker video/cd, and the aftershow from Copenhagen in 2002. TRUE BLUE

U Got the Look... another terrible song lyrically... I always thought that thing sounded clunky and plastic
Then P came to DC back in 96 or 97 and he performed it live one night... I was singing that sucka!
You Got the Look... Sure nuff do be cooking in my book! Dance... Let me see you dance

No, in Boston he played a medley which included Bambi in the set. Bostonians love rock music and Prince knows this.
I never saw the Nude tour... I would have loved to. Prince rarely makes it out to play here, Boston is usually the last stop on country wide US tours. He shortens most of his songs to make a 45 minute set, if we are lucky he'll do 1 or two extra. Emancipation, but he didn't play Bambi then.
Thankfully I was able to find a live recording of bambi on cd from Japan. I think it is from the Nude tour, if I rember correctly that version is much longer than what he did at the live show, but it rocked regardless. [Edited 8/4/10 21:09pm]

Strange Relationship Just passed it as another over done studio gimmick till I heard just how incredibly bluesy & structurally sound it is live as he played it on piano! "Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

That song is one of my faves.

I would have to say "7". On record is was passable but when I saw him do it on the "Act 1" or "Act II" tour (forgive me for not being more specific) that song became funky as hell.

Boston is the best! Idk of anybody that digs prince up here..anyhow I like hearing Purple Rain Live... I know it's like cliche but it's one of the only songs he's sang with practically every band he's had since 1985 so it's interesting hearing it with every single band..and the solo just sounds better live

Yeah,Prince is NOT big at all in Boston. Many people here are lukewarm on Prince since many here either dig hard edgy music and not Prince's sound anymore since I think the music is too "middle of the road". I know few fans here, and those fans have been into Prince since day one. He always sells out the Worcester stadium in hours when ever he visits here. He is my favorite peformer.
