Hot Summer Rain Live DVD Appreciation

I'm sure many of you have found this title!

What do you make of it and the formate it takes!

In case you are unfamiliar with it, the creators found different clips from the youtube and other similar sites, combined them to create a nearly full concert!

The Audio has been timed with these clips so it comes together as a full concert with clips from multiple views.

Me? I loved it, but if I had a complaint it is that they didn't divide the chapters to suit individual songs, but this method isn't unknown in DVD bootz!

Your own thoughts!

and FYI I had nothing to do with this, bar watch it come together!

Thanks NPR!

I have to admit I watched this last night and for the first time EVER It was like torture watching this show. This was the worst show I have ever seen. I could not believe this was Prince. What the hell has happened to him? This tour sucks!! I hope he gets his mojo back. He looks so bored on stage and it shows. I was pretty shocked st how bad this performance was. Even his tours that are not my favorites I enjoy watching. This one I just can't stomach. sad

I'd be reserving any judgement until I watched an "official" DVD or such like.

I remember cringing at Prince's version of Creep when a fan vid was posted on youtube. I also tried to show others who expressed an interest, who all to a man said it was awful.

However, when the actual professionally recorded version showed up on Lotusflow3r.com, I found myself enjoying it. The quality of the footage makes a huge difference.

So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

wait till you see this (and the other ones the same guy did), you would be very surprised

basically all the footage was taken from various youtube clips, most of them in high quality and shot close to the stage, some of the footage is of broadcast quality. he's synched them all to a good quality audience recording of the show, using the best footage available. so instead of a single cam filming the show, it cuts many times between different video sources, whilst maintaining the same single audio source. the end result is pretty damn good

the beastie boys did a similar thing by giving camcorders to fans to record a show and they took all the footage to make an official live dvd. what's amazing about this is that almost the entire show was not only filmed by the audience, but posted on youtube

and with digital technolgoy the quality is pretty good these days, especially considering most footage is shot by cellphones

the quality is often better quality than the official live at las vegas dvd, which was just shot non anamorphic on camcorders

The quality is not the issue. I am VERY USED to fanmade dvds. I collect not only Prince but about 20-25 other artists boot dvds. I have collected about 100 or so for Prince and the audience shot ones are some of my favorites. I love the TOronto 93, germany 93, brussels 95, gent 95 and many others. The quality on the hot summer show is actually fantastic. The issue for me is PRince and the band. They just suck. Prince seems to have literally no passion for these songs and it comes out loud and clear. He used to really kick ass live but it just seems like what is left is a hollow shell trying to live off of his past. I couldnt believe it!! I always enjoy watching him live. Hell, I even liked the Musicology and jam of the year boot shows and those were not that great realistically but I still enjoys mainly segments of those. I could not find anything on this show that i liked. The way he sung the songs, the bullshit half ass dance steps and never really did anything on guitar. ITs just all bland. I think its the surrounding band. He has always fed off of the band members he had around him. This band brings nothing at all to the table with them. I dont know but I hope he fixes that FAST!!

So what you are saying is you don't like this tour...But what did you make of the make-up of the dvd!

I thought it was done really well!

As for the quality fan-made dvds

try

Toronto 88

Ghent 95 (and aftershow)

Philly 2000

but I know what you mean by some fan-made films, but sometimes you gotta take some risks and a free download isn't any risk at all!

There are quite a few parts of Toronto '88 that blow the Lovesexy Live official footage out of the water. He was more intense, the dancing was better, the music had more interesting parts in much of toronto... too bad that wasn't pro shot!

For the U2 360 shows, people were doing the same thing and many of the results are better than the official DVD that came out recently. Something about the crowd shot footage very often captures more of the energy of the show.

I always am somewhat bored with the threads begging Prince for an official DVD of "__________", but this kind of release so clearly shows the appetite for live video it still impresses me that Prince chooses to ignore the call.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I think it's funny that when Prince decided to be hip to the fan based movement and did just that type of free stylin documentation mixed with ultra clear sound for the Alladin DVD... everyone jumped on his ass. (So maybe he should have done this for a regular One Night Alone concert... but still)

He can't win with his fans!

lol! Does he don that get-up down at Kingdom Hall? His face just looks...desperate. A drunken performing clown or athritic dolphin balancing a ball on the end of its nose for a bored or blind crowd. Like 'Im still wild muthafukkas!' Someone send his arse to Banana Republic.

Am watching the one they made for Nice. I was filled with the same feelings I got from the other shows (god this is lame, why doesn't prince seem to care anymore, he needs a new fucking band) but then... Shhh started.

Amazing performance of my favorite live Prince song. Reminds me why he's my favorite artist ever and favorite guitarist. Some awesome soulful guitar improv even if he uses the whammy too much. The whole time I am watching him improv on this song I am spellbound... it's a mystery to me how he comes up with stuff like this off the top of his head.

Then Cream started. lol

P needs a major change in direction and in band lineups. He can still deliver with certain lineups... Montreux 2009 and the Conga Room trio gigs prove that. These shows and the shows in Paris and MN prove that the well is tapped when it comes to this soulless, lifeless band. I mean, respect to 'em but Cora and Josh have to be two of the most boring live performers of all time. Shelby J's voice practically hurts my ears at this point. This band reached its peak in 2007 and now it's a sad shell of itself for some reason. Retire 'er Prince.

Also, what's with this ballerina / dancer shit? I thought we were done with that crap after Rave...

It is so funny to see hardcore fans who were at the european shows just loved them and noticed how playful, happy, relaxed and focused Prince and the band were. These shows were a massive success.

And a bunch of guys who were not there, who have no clue whatsoever, dare to watch these atrocious recordings taken from youtube and dare to think they tell about how it was to be there!

I attended Nice and Arras and It is a torture to me to watch these two crap dvds. This is not even close to what it was to be there.

So please, cut the crap guys.

These europeans shows were great. I mean GREAT. Again: a massive success.

The Nude Tour sucked, The Gold Experience Tour sucked, The London shows in 1998 sucked big time.

But you are totally WRONG on the last tour.

I'm very harsh on Prince when it comes to live stuff as I have seen him billions of time in amazing conditions but your thoughts do not reflect what thousands have experienced in Europe.

Sorry. wink

This cracked me up. All I could think of when I saw this pic the first time was how amazingly short it makes him look. Yes, he is amazingly short regardless, but he tends to favor photographers who accentuate his angles and make him look deceptively taller.

This photographer basically put him in an outfit too big for him, making him look like the cast of Rugrats or something.

This is bullshit and you know it. Only the Geneva concert was not doing well at all in terms of sales. The tix were very expensive and the gigs organized quite late + it's crisis time in case you don't know it. So it is a massive success whether you like it or not.

People who did not like the shows at all are those who were not there like you. biggrin

The reviews have been fantastic and fans just enjoyed the shows big time. We were all shocked to see Prince moving this way by the way. It had been long time since I had seen him in such a physical shape.

And the parisian residency that will be announced soon will be a great success as well. And you will be pissed off AGAIN. And I like it when you're taking the piss. lol

Sorry but Arras sales were bad...only 50/60 percent sold and a lot of those were half price if you remember.

I have no figures on Nice but it was far from sold out.

And Vienna had to be moved to a smaller venue due to lack of interest.

I glad a lot of people enjoyed the shows but, sorry again, this tour was far from being the massive success you talk about.
