1. Gold Experience, Rainbow Children, Emancipation, The Truth, Exodus (does that count?). 2. Either Lovesexy or Dirty Mind... depends on the day. 3. 1988... because I was buying Lovesexy for a girlfriend's birthday present and I checked the vinyl copy I bought her for scratches... I was hooked... and then realised how many Prince songs I had on compilations, etc...

1) My opinion on this will probably change daily, but at the moment: Lotusflow3r, 3121, The Rainbow Children, Rave, Gold are better than 20Ten... But having said that, 20Ten's a darn good album too.
2) Probably 1999, or Lovesexy
3) c.1998/99. Newpower Soul was the latest album at the time. Rave was the first album I remember anticipating. So yeah, I must have been pretty deep by then. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

1) Didnt listen to 20Ten yet, but judging for the few songs I heard, it seems I will still consider Gold, Symbol, Diamonds, The Vault, Chaos, TRC, Musicology, 3121 and LotusFlow3r better.
2) Hard to say. In terms of songs/production, SOTT is his best work, IMO. Parade is a killer album too. But I really love Gold Experience and TRC for the band arrangements and songs.
3) I listened to "The most beautiful girl" on the radio and loved it. Then I asked a friend, who was a Prince fan, to record something for me. He recorded a tape with DP/Symbol. I really hated DP (I spent the 80s listening to hard rock/metal), but I loved Gett Off, so I used to let the tape play until it arrived there. Then, I started to realize some cool things on the other songs too.

Still trying to figure that out. Right now 20Ten has me in a haze and I honestly thought more die hards would be ecstatic about this new CD. To each his own....but it does seem that some are listing every album released since 88 as better than 20Ten, hence the wondering if some of these responses are sarcastic (this is the org...of course they are!)
One thing this poll is showing me is that the Gold Experience is really a fav among die hards.
Shocking to me. I may have to listen to it tonight...which would be the first time in, oh about 13 years. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

The Gold Experience, Exodus, Come,
Anything from 1978-1989, and the above listed ones.
1979 from a K-Tel album that had "I Wanna Be Your Lover" on it. I have two copies of that vinyl still today.

Interesting. The Black Album came out in late '87 and then again in 1994, but you chose that one anyway. Then, you chose it as your favorite album- great choice by the way- but then said you just became a Prince fan a month ago, because of 20Ten??Hmmm... I'm on to you mister. - Like I said before, I really love TRC and Gold. I love the musician Prince, his live band work, arrangements, etc. That´s why I REALLY love The Vault album.
Some fans seem to be happy with only the sound of a Linn and some screaming and dirty lyrics. That´s not my case.
I know that his strongest output was in the 80s, but I prefer the 90s Prince. I didnt like 3121 much, but it seems more varied than 20Ten. This is another thing I love in Prince: to hear several different styles in the same album. It didnt happen on MPLSound and probably isnt the case of 20Ten.

1) Batman, Graffiti Bridge (despite the filler), D&P, Love Symbol, Gold Experience, 3121
2) Purple Rain, Dirty Mind and SOTT. Can't pick one...
3) I've known him since I was a kid (my sisters are big fans), but a I became a fan on my own when I was 21 years old...

20Ten starts as strong as any Prince album since TGE but fades quickly toward the end, this allows a few more Prince albums to slip in above it. So ...
1) Black Album, TGE, Batman, The Symbol Album, and Ties with Diamonds and Pearls
2) Lovesexy
3) Purple Rain Era made me a fan of Albums 1-6. Then we went our seperate ways until I listen to the Lovesexy Album which introduced me to ATWIAD, PARADE, SOTT, and the BLACK ALBUM (bootleg) and THAT made me a Princce fan for life.

1) Which Prince album released after 1988 is better than 20Ten? Batman Black Album Come Gold Experience Crystal Ball (does this count?) Rainbow Children
There are a few others that are toss-ups, but I realize I mostly just like a few songs on them (Rave, Chaos, etc...) but not the album as a whole. If you break the rules and dump the last two tracks on 20Ten (and I do when I listen to it), it probably ranks as my fav since Gold.
2) What is your favorite Prince album? 1999 on same days, ATWIAD on others, and Dirty Mind every once in a blue moon.
3) When did you become a Prince fan (year/album)? Became aware of him with 1999 release in '82, realized he was something quite special with the ATWIAD release ('85), realized I was a hard core fan when I walked out of a record store with an album featuring a naked Prince basking in flowers on the cover (Lovesexy - '88), realized he was human ('89-'95), realized I would have to put up with a lot of poo to find the oh so tasty nuggets ('96 - 2009), ran for cover (Purple and Gold), realized I am still a fan (20Ten).

It´s interesting...when I think of ´Graffiti Bridge´ I always think of it as a weak album, but even GB has special songs that became classics (Thieves in the Temple, Question of U, etc), and I dont feel that these recent albums (3121, Planet Earth) have songs that will be remembered in 15 years, although I like some of them.

Haha... thanks man. Yeah, when I look back at it, I had some real balls to walk in to a record store that basically catered to Hardcore/Straightedge types and ask for them to pull Lovesexy off of their back counter display (it was the only copy they had). THEN I hopped on my 10-speed and biked back to my house with that thing under my arm. And I thought, "why the fuck am I doing this? Running around with a record like this is a fast track to an ass kicking in this neighborhood."
But I made it home OK... and once that needle hit the record, I knew what all the trouble was for.
Honestly, that bike ride felt a lot like hearing Purple and Gold for the first time w/ my fellow office drones. Suddenly I had to answer for Prince - "Yo Jones, what the fuck is P up to?"
Prince don't always make it easy to be a Prince fan. But I dig on 20Ten, so Purple and Gold is (mostly) forgiven.
