If you were hired to compile a Best Of album...

If you were to make a Prince compilation album to put out in stores, what would it consist of?

The limit is three CD's worth.

I tend to edit songs down to fit more on a disc, usually by adding a fadeout at the end, so the tracks with a time next to it is when the fade ends. Also, I cut out the silences at the beginning and end of each song to keep the pace flowing.

Disc 1:
Let’s Go Crazy
Sexuality
Erotic City
(Hits edit)
1999
(Hits edit)
Oilcan
Kiss
Sexy M.F.
Guitar
Eye Wanna B Ur Lover

(Fade added to beginning and end of song)
Little Red Corvette
(3:19)
When Doves Cry
Gett Off
Thieves in the Temple
Alphabet St.
(2:25)
Black Sweat
Raspberry Beret
(2:59)
When U Were Mine
(3:37)

Pop Life

Scandalous
(4:28)

U Got the Look
Fury
319
2 Nigs United 4 West Compton
(Crowd intro cut, 3:27)
My Name is Prince (Single Edit)

Nah, I love 20Ten, 3121, TGE, and Emancipation as much as the next guy (whatever that's supposed to mean in Org terms) I just think those songs make a better Best Of. Plus, my list is always changing.

Though It'll always baffle me why Scandalous and My Name Is Prince are so overlooked.

This is from wikipedia so it may not be accurate:

Ownership of the Batman franchise is notoriously complex. Prince had to agree to sign the publishing rights to the songs used in the movie over to Warner Bros., therefore, Prince's hit singles from this album were not permitted to appear on any of his hits compilations, only the B-side singles "200 Balloons", "Feel U Up", and "I Love U in Me". Even on the concert T-shirts which listed all of Prince's album titles to date the song "Scandalous!" appeared in place of the album Batman. Despite this, Prince has performed a number of the album's tracks in concert over the years. A 2005 special edition DVD of the Batman movie contains Prince's related videos as a bonus feature. Wedged between Lovesexy and Graffiti Bridge, the soundtrack serves as Prince's final album contribution of the 1980s.

That doesn't explain why "Batdance" or any other song from the soundtrack was excluded from various hits collections so I'm not sure how true it is. Why would WB block their own songs?

Simple. Edits means more room which means more songs. If you use the full versions you might only have room for 15 songs per disc but if you use edits you might have room for 20 or more. For a hits collection I prefer edits since I already have the full album versions.

bullshit, pure bullshit; the 18 tracks that I've listed are stunning songs, and I said "Best Of (95-10)", not "Greatest Hits"...

Typically a "best of" release is the hits. Just look at "The Very Best of" and "The Ulitmate" releases. I'm not saying some of things song aren't stunning, I'm just saying it wouldn't sell well. Considering they didn't the first time around.

well, he could mix some 80-92 hits with some recent ones...

1. 1999

2.Little Red Corvette

3.Let's Go Crazy

4.When Doves Cry

5.Purple Rain

6.Kiss

7.Sign 'O' the Times

8.U Got the Look

9.Alphabet St.

10.Diamonds and Pearls

11.Cream

12.The Most Beautiful Girl in the World

13.So Far So Pleased

14.Musicology

15.Black Sweat

16.Chelsea Rodgers

17.Dreamer

18.Laydown

that would be, in my opinion, a fine "mainstream killer tracks only" CD of his entire career...
