Has the initial shock worn off?

Are the songs sticky like glue? Or have they slipped into obscurity?

Do U still jam?

I think 20Ten is dope, I rocked it on repeat for quite a while but I have yet to play it in about a week since I try to keep things fresh and switch it up.

eek It is new--so why wouldn't I listen to it for a while....or anyone else who just got it?!

Nope , wrote my own tracks instead - one which I feel should be a good opener to 20Ten

Surprisingly, yes. It's not even a 'forced' listen like the three times I listened to Planet Earth. I'm really enjoying it. cool

I think of it as 'Planet Earth: The Apology.'

I'm enjoying it.

I have four faves, but I can listen to the whole album.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

i'm just glad i've melted half the components in my stereo over the past decade - the EQ response is shot to shit. 20Ten is now a classic.

It's best funk is dispayed by wearing headphones... still listening, still great music.

What is funny is how "fans" liken certain songs from 20Ten to extremely great albums from the past, then say he doesn't sound the same, then say he needs to go back to his old sound..... what? LOL

My thoughts exactly! I still listen first because I noticed it sounds SO much better on a decent sound system (I was was using my comp speakers). Also though, the songs have an organic quality I fell right in to. I think people are just waiting for that one record Prince will just show up every one on the top 20 and make them recognize and remember what real music is... Well RADIO will never let that happen. Radio is in the business of keeping itself alive--that means streams of endless songs that fade into the background easily and you don't even recognize you're humming. Radio is not interested playing great music anymore. That would not "fit their format" and, yes, it would make their music sound sick and they can't let that happen.

I said all that to say this: just listen with new ears and groove to it.

I'm on Amazon and iTunes under "The DreZone". thedrezone.com, www.myspace.com/drezone... - but I'm NOT on Bacefook!

But I have some new stuff coming out in the fall touch wood which is a lot more Rock/Funk orientated than anything I've done before... one of the songs is very 3121/Days Of Wild...

After writing the review I signed up for with my school paper, I haven't listened to it.

I have no desire to hear any of those songs again.

After eight days of listening to 20Ten, I want to hear it more and more. (I added "Cause and Effect" to the beginning and "Hot Summer" to the end so it is a twelve song album for me.) So far I give it an 8 out of 10. The only thing missing is a song that is a straight razor rocker and a song that is a bit more traditional R&B/Soul with a church organ and a cafe' desire, but I'll still take 8 out of 10. Right now favorites are "Cause and Effect," "Future Love Song," "Act of God," and "Laydown," but I don't skip any songs as of yet. The only song that gives me any displeasure is "Sticky Like Glue" because of the rap that destroys the flow of the song, much like the rap in "Love 2 d 9s" from The Symbol Album, but the ending of the song almost saves it from the rap portion. (I'm not a big rap lover, but since I don't listen to much rap Prince's rapping has never really bothered me. However, the rap in "Sticky Like Glue" is Gawd Awful, in a corny, inauthentic sort of way. Yet, around the 3:15 mark just after the rap, the vocal delivery almost makes me forget the rap.) “Cause and Effect” is one of my favorite types of Prince songs, two or three movements or different vibes in one song—think “Joint to Joint” from Emancipation but not as smooth or funky, but the guitar work is wonderful in the way Prince can blend funk and rock like few others, and I love the reflective yet defiant lyrics. “Future Love Song” isn’t “Adore,” but it is smooth and sensuous with a strong alto delivery. “Act of God” sounds as if it could have been on the Graffiti Bridge soundtrack, but it is more certain of its soul roots that steady the rock swing. And “Laydown” is my favorite mode of Prince: defiant, arrogant, f-the-world mentality with a bass groove and guitar lick that reaffirms that Prince is still the funkiest mutha on the planet. It evokes memories of 1996-1997 when my wife and I saw a total of twelve Prince concerts where at each one we were yellin’ “Play dat muthafuckin’ bass” during his live performance of “Face Down.” The nod he gives to “Funky Town,” which was written by a producer from Minneapolis, of course, and calling himself the “Purple Yoda” are fierce, bad ass, and makes me want to hold myself while I drive slowly through my suburban neighborhood! As for one additional song, “Everybody Loves Me,”…err…Prince…Disney called, and Miley Cyrus wants her song back, or is it High School Musical? In truth, the Prince who wrote “Soft and Wet,” “Uptown,” “Dirty Mind,” “Head,” “Controversy,” and “Sexuality” would pimp slap the taste out the mouth of the Prince who wrote “Everybody Loves Me.” Yet, the Prince who wrote “Everybody Loves Me” seems to have embraced that being happy is a good thing and everybody needs a little happy music. Still, with lyrics like “Ain’t nothing to it but to do it” and “Shake it like you don’t know better, whoopty whoop,” makes me wonder just how happy, centered, and at peace do I want Prince to be? Yet, when he follows “Everybody Loves Me” with “Laydown” it is almost like what Ice Cube said about the person who said he is no longer afraid of Cube because Cube makes comedies, which is “You don’t have to be afraid of me to get yo’ ass whipped.” “Laydown” whips the ass of anything that was considered to be funky in the past three to five years. Slap bass is Prince slappin’ the haters; take dat, take dat, take dat you lame muthas!!! “They say this name boarders on blasphemy; everybody wants to be me. If yo’ girlfriend hadn’t had the surgery maybe she could see what I see.” And Shelby J’s vocals are just too cold, too funky, and too church simultaneously. For a year or so I've been saying to the people who think that Prince hasn’t produced anything note worthy since 2000 that Lotusflow3r/MPLS, The Rainbow Children, and Musicology are excellent works that fall just short of classic/brilliance/genius, and now 20Ten is demanding to be given that label, but I'll a wait a few months.

[Edited 7/24/10 5:58am]

No! You know the song to add to this??? Wait for it..... "This Bed" by Alicia Keys! Trust me it's like it was made to be on the record! Also unless I miss my guess, it's where he got the idea to go retro.
