VOTE: Prince: producer, songwriter, lyricist, singer, or instrumentalist?

OK: I'm sure most of us on here believe Prince to be one of the most talented musicians in the world.

But if you were forced to say which you think prince is the most talented at, which would you go for?

- Producer?
- Songwriter?
- Lyricist?
- Singer?
- Instrumentalist?

I must say, I can't make my mind up myself, but if pressed, I'd have to say producer or instrumentalist; and would probably come down on the side of instrumentalist.

I look forward to your responses...

If I had to choose one, I would choose Producer. I love his arrangements with all those hidden sounds and instruments that you don't hear until you've heard the song a zillion times!

Neither of those.

He's best at Performing,

then singer (he knows it inside and out)

then songwriter

then lyricist

then producer (but better than anyone else)

and finally, instrumentalist (but miles did say prince was the best keyboardist he has worked with.)

Lyricist, because of his phrasing and his articulation. Also, many of the notes he hits on his ballads are exhilirating...he has a great voice. Think of his many musical swirls and his passion...too many songs to name where these examples shine through.

Definitely agree that PERFORMER is number one. When performing he truly transcends.

After that, I wouldn't break down an order of talents. Too many variables for me to make those choices. Too hard for me!
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark
