I strongly disagree with everything u just said. neutral Just cos P got busy in the 80's & some of the 90's..doesn't mean brother wants 2 relax in the 00's. In fact he has MORE 2 prove because now he's has 2 prove 2 himself that he still has creativity & purpose... bit like the musical genius version of a middle age man trying 2 prove he can still get it up and make a woman cum without the aid of a pinky finger up her butt...or is that just me lurking
Wake up children, dance the dance electric... there isn't much time.... who farted? whofarted ...was it u? disbelief

I like your positive stand, but I disagree with you.

Every time Prince is realeasing another new album he has to proove he still can make something interesting.

"20Ten" is a good and solid, but - not - excellent album, imo. 7 or 8 out of 10.

To say Prince has nothing to proove sound boring to me, like he could give up his career and everything would be just OK.

I hope Prince still has 10 to 12 albums in him before he rests his career, some future good albums, but maybe not excellent.. he does not seem to have that in him no more. That part seemed to be over loong time ago. It's been 15 years already, since the excellent Gold Experience. What has come after was sometimes good, but also a lot of average albums.

He said he is already 3 albums ahread of us and that 20Ten is old.

Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Identity

He has proven to me that 20Ten is a worthless collection of tuneless sap (with the exception of 2 songs). Which makes me wonder whether anyone at the Daily Mirror bothered to preview the CD before paying him in advance.

I agree he has nothing to prove.... So why are you trying to prove he has nothing to prove? razz

Just because a lot of people on the org seem to want to crucify everything he does. This is unfair.

This musical genius has done it all. He's been at the top, the middle, the bottom, back on top... so what does he have to prove now? Since his journey into a more spiritual quest, all he asks from his fans is perhaps listen to his message. He sings of Love. He sings of God. If you do not believe in either of those things, that is your choice. For those of us who get into what he is saying, and how he is saying it, we'll continue to support him.

It is senseless to go back and forth at one another on here over the silliest things. Someone being called an idiot for expressing their liking of certain songs. It makes no sense. I am old... 42, lol... and I am enjoying this guy's music like I did when I first bought his first album. He inspires me to become a better person, and a better musician/writer. Prince does not have to be cutting edge (in other's opinions). He does not need to sound more like anyone else on the top 40 list on radio. Forget the internet being dead, I think music today is dead. Justin Bieber?? Lady Gaga?? I respect that they get theirs, but I can't get into it.

This is just an opinion, and would like to know what others think on this topic. Does Prince owe any one of us anything? Does he have to prove anything to us? Or can we just sit back, purchase new music or not, and just cruise along? Thanks, Richard.

Nice Post Purpracer2. cool

So, Grammy nods, award show duets with Beyonce, participating in BET honors, AI cameos, Target promotions, Leno, Ebony & Jet and similar situations are representative of someone distancing himself from the mainstream record industry?

How do you reconcile your position with the kinds of things I mention?

Was he signed to any major label during all of those appearances/awards?

Was there a label promoting his releases or pushing his songs on radio?

He had a brief stint in 99 with Clive, but nothing since. He is independent.

That is how I reconcile my position.

He's an independent artist in that he's not signed to a traditional record deal. He's still very much a mainstream -- though, by virtue of his age, a legacy -- artist and very much plugged into the mainstream music scene.

"Independent" in its traditional sense really doesn't apply, because of the scale of success and influence Prince still enjoys. If I were to release a CD tomorrow through a website, I'd be an independent artist. Prince by comparison is still an industry juggernaut, even without a traditional record deal.
