Every time Prince is realeasing another new album he has to proove he still can make something interesting.

"20Ten" is a good and solid, but - not - excellent album, imo. 7 or 8 out of 10.

To say Prince has nothing to proove sound boring to me, like he could give up his career and everything would be just OK.

I hope Prince still has 10 to 12 albums in him before he rests his career, some future good albums, but maybe not excellent.. he does not seem to have that in him no more. That part seemed to be over loong time ago. It's been 15 years already, since the excellent Gold Experience. What has come after was sometimes good, but also a lot of average albums.

He said he is already 3 albums ahread of us and that 20Ten is old.

He has proven to me that 20Ten is a worthless collection of tuneless sap (with the exception of 2 songs). Which makes me wonder whether anyone at the Daily Mirror bothered to preview the CD before paying him in advance.

It is senseless to go back and forth at one another on here over the silliest things. Someone being called an idiot for expressing their liking of certain songs. It makes no sense. I am old... 42, lol... and I am enjoying this guy's music like I did when I first bought his first album. He inspires me to become a better person, and a better musician/writer. Prince does not have to be cutting edge (in other's opinions). He does not need to sound more like anyone else on the top 40 list on radio. Forget the internet being dead, I think music today is dead. Justin Bieber?? Lady Gaga?? I respect that they get theirs, but I can't get into it.

This is just an opinion, and would like to know what others think on this topic. Does Prince owe any one of us anything? Does he have to prove anything to us? Or can we just sit back, purchase new music or not, and just cruise along? Thanks, Richard.

He had a brief stint in 99 with Clive, but nothing since. He is independent.

That is how I reconcile my position.

He's an independent artist in that he's not signed to a traditional record deal. He's still very much a mainstream -- though, by virtue of his age, a legacy -- artist and very much plugged into the mainstream music scene.

"Independent" in its traditional sense really doesn't apply, because of the scale of success and influence Prince still enjoys. If I were to release a CD tomorrow through a website, I'd be an independent artist. Prince by comparison is still an industry juggernaut, even without a traditional record deal.
