I hate 20Ten because...(I love it?)

Well, why do you hate it?

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I like the retro sound and feel. And some might criticize how vapid it is, but that's why I think it works. Even the "message" songs come off with a very light, fun touch.

Plus, best of all, Purple & Gold, Cause & Effect and Hot Summer were red herrings and not indicative at all of what this sounds like.

Don't hate it just left a lot to be desired on some tracks.

I'm ashamed of how optimistic I was for this album.

I really think it's lousy. I've been blasting it on my stereo all night and its already tired for me.

The lyrics, melodies, production... it's all completely immaterial. It's hard to even talk about the songs, they're so dull.

His speech at the BET awards really feels like an epitaph on his career to me at this point.

Passing the torch and all.

At this point, he really needs a new perspective, a shake-up... something.

I have to give this bitch a bunch of listens (from a CD on a good stereo) before casting judgement on the album as a whole. But right now, I'm quite excited about the good outweighing the bad by such a large margin.

Maybe I posted this in the wrong thread...

Oh, and when this goes on my iPod, Hot Summer will be part of the album. Suck on that. stirthepot

I'm feeling the love right now for this. You know why?

He doesn't sound like he is trying too hard.

It's a bit throwaway which makes it much more interesting.

Also it has a sound, simple and almost amaturish but cool.

Casio on a plastic beach.

I like the fact that it seems hastily recorded and not over-glossy.

Other than that it continues the trend of amateur lyrics and an overall feeling of Prince being detached from the music in general. Nothing screams inspired, nothing yells "I'm the best" except for him vocally boasting it. There are a few good elements but you can say that about virtually any album released by any artist.

Prince.......continue to gave away your albums because I will probably never actually pay for one ever again.....at least not until the title is Crystal Ball 2 or Roadhouse Garden.

^ this

Its MPLSound Pt II imho the same "old school" sounds and samples sans a soul or the emotional urgency and intensity of his work of the era hes attempting to mimic. Theres the odd cool grove or little piece here and there that hints at his former glory but no song i can listen to in its entirity without wondering "wtf is that doing in there?". Lyrically its a rambling mess overall and constantly staggers between the akward and the embarassing.

It's just my opinion I'm no musical expert just know what i like and i tend to live by the creed if you dont have anything nice to say dont say it at all, but it just goes from bad to worse with each album the last decade, I can at least pick a track or 3 on previous releases the last decade or so i enjoy and listen to now and again, this time round I really cant, pieces of some songs I like, but each and every song is puncuated by akwardness and TBH i think at this stage of his career he really could use someone, a producer or strong band member with experience on par with him to lend a critical learned ear and their opinion/input, not just saying "yes sir". That'll never happen of course, i know the deal, It's just a shame imho, I'm a little sad after so looking forward to it hehe.

I don't hate 20Ten because I didn't bother to get 20Ten. So, I have no feelings of it not living up to the hype nor the feeling of buyers remorse.

I absolutely dig this new cd. Some songs "may" drag on a little, but it is true to die hard Prince fan expecatations. At least, for this diehard fan. I, for one, am glad that Prince does not follow the trends of music these days. Call me an old, white fool, but I love this retro funk soul sound. Once again, for those looking for a fight on here... this is the opinion of one Prince lovin' fool. So, what others think of the album matters not to me. No one should say " I won't listen to it 'cuz what'shisname" said it was crap. Make up your own mind, and like many have said... you'll either like it or not.

As a musician, I love the funk. I do wish there were some heavier guitar tracks on here. Still, I got my smooth new telecaster to goove along for the ride. smile

Okay, I'm replying to myself!!! I can't stop listening to this cd. His voice is so wonderful! The only song that is ?able is the bonus track "Laydown"... not my style, but it is funky. Purple Yoda... lol.

That's good! So now you can just talk about the good things and not go on about what he isnt doing so that your exceptional expectations would not be tarnished or diminished; because only Prince to make u happy. Thanks for not listening and save us the drama.

That would depend on what good things, you're referring to? confuse

There is still the little matter of his saying, "The internet is over" and quite frankly, my "exceptional expectations" of him, were much better than that. wink

Another heaping pile of shit. I don't even know where to start with this one. Poor songwriting, lame attempt at bringing back old sounds, cheesy, corny, preachy, what else can I say?

It's an awful, disgusting album. And like the rest, it'll be ignored by everyone except the kiss-ass fams who can't be critical of anything he does.

Ok, if people like the CD, why the fuck they gotta be "dick-sucking"? If we like it, we like it. You wouldn't want anyone to knock you for not liking it and I respect you not liking it, but why are you knocking those who like it and what's in it for you? There is something wrong with you to be coming out of your mouth with that crap.

If we ignore the ones that call us names, the ones that like his music, perhaps those who dislike us will just vanish. Do not respond to them and they will... poof.. be gone.

Only one question. If there are sooooo many people who say Prince has not done anything good since God knows when, why are you here? Please explain. Why? Is it just to get under people's skin with your rants? I'll probably have some Prince~Lover Hater respond to this, but do not bother. I won't respond to you.

Prince - 20ten (My opinion, which I am entitled to, like it or not. And if not then kick me out of the commune. PEACE!)

Musically it's OK. A bit over produced and busy in areas but without the lyrics I could almost enjoy this album and consider it better than 'OK'. As for the retro sound, I understand what he is doing, and while it worked to a point on MPLSound, I think he should have left well enough alone. If I want retro I can listen to the original albums. Also since when does Prince bow down like this? That's one of the whole points of his music. It doesn't sound like anything else to include his
previous works.

Lyrically... where do I begin? I want so much to like the positive messages and romantic sentiments but most of the lyrics don't have any flow to them. I read years ago how David Bowie came up with lyrics by writing down his thoughts and copying phrases and quotes he'd seen or
read and then would work them together for lyrics to his songs. Somehow it seems like Prince is doing this but he's not smoothing them out, they just ramble on.

And even though Laydown is possibly one of the best sounding songs on this egotistical mess, with lyrics like 'from the heart of Minnesota here come the purple Yoda guaranteed to bring the dirty new sound' which honestly makes 'My name is Prince and I am funky' sound like Tolstoy, he's going to be laughed out of the business and considered 'done' by anybody except the 'extreme hardcore fans.'

Thankfully there's no sign of anything even remotely akin to 'Purple & Gold' however 'Hot Summer' & 'Cause & Effect' might have been OK on this project.

B.L.U.F. : This album is perhaps the best argument for him to go back to doing what he did with stuff like, N.E.W.S., C-Note & Xpectation! Let's get back to making real music (preferably heavy on the guitar jams (personal favorite)) for real music lovers, throw in a vault song or two now and then and quit trying to cater to the masses.

It's dick-sucking because they're experiencing "new album syndrome." They're so excited to hear new music that they fall into a trance. I think part of them also believe Prince is reading the review here and they want to make him feel good.

This album is awful and only a hardcore fam could love it, as is usually the case.

wow, I think this album truly is the normal Prince vibe (putting out an album with a sound and vibe that seems a bit like a slap in the face and out of context of what you expect or want), but grows on you after a while, and ten years down the road is likely to be quite enjoyable), whilst things like c-note, NEWS, x-pectation are bit more common sounds catering to conservative musicians (for the most part).

Slow R&B songs are P's bread and butter-

The low baritone really caught me off guard. I have a feeling this song will be growing on meee

"Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."
