It compares to Box O' Chocolates. Reminds me of an excellent bootleg from back in the day. I think that is the intent of the CD.

I'm thinking I like it better than LotusFlow3r but less than MPLSoUND. In fact, I think MPLS has the better uptempo songs while 20Ten, possibly, has a couple better ballads. I could see sticking Future Soul Song, Sea Of Everything, Laydown on MPLSoUND.

As far as other recent albums, I like 20Ten better than PE, less than 3121 and undecided on Musicology.

Of course all of the above are far and away better than The Rainbow Children. lol

Comparing the quality of this album to MPLSound or Planet Earth would be an insult.. Those two albums are dreadful attempts

Those are exactly the two albums I would compare it to.

Not 'SOTT'. It's too 'new wave'. It recalls the production, synth and unreleased jams of '82-'83 with a little of 'Controversy'.

It has a modern touch as well though.

Lyrically Prince is on point this time. The arrangements are tight and well-edited.

I agree. Prince is back! And back when we need him most, I say.

This album has all the beauty of the stripped down bootleg tracks from the 80s with just enough modernity to take it further. Right on!

'I think 20Ten compares to...."

Wiping my ass after a really bad bad case of the runs from a curry I ate last night.

The man sounds bored and uninspiried if you ask me.

There's no way any true Prince fan would compare it to SOTT/1999 etc apart from the sound.

Glad I didn't have the fucking pay for it!

I have no idea. I haven't heard the new album. I would like to but I guess I'll have to wait until it's released in the US.

"Beginning Endlessly" is his best song since The Rainbow Children album, and I would put it up there as one of his best since 1993-Come.

I say this from a purely funk music and social statement standpoint- I believe that The Rainbow Children was his best album compilation since SOTT, and probably his 4th best album in his career.

20TEN is a good Prince album. If Around The World In A Day and NewPowerSoul were combined, throw in a little bit of modern pop/club music, and some modern pop/rap, and you would get 20TEN.

And you know what makes it better than most everything else out there? He wrote it, played instruments on it, and sang it HIMSELF. Do you see most of these no-talent idiots out there in music doing that? No. They don't even know the difference between Washington the state and Washington D.C. Case dismissed.

Good job, Prince.

I heart Stefani Germanotta.

Planet Earth and MPLSound.

That.

Really? PE is still my least favorite Prince album post TRC. I only like a couple tracks on it. Feels like it was a bunch of tracks he had laying around because he'd considered putting them on Musicology and 3121, but thought better of it. I can see where 20Ten compares to MPLSound, but I think 20Ten is more raw and MUCH more passionate. I don't like all of them, but it still sounds like Prince REALLY cared about 7 or 8 of the tracks on this album. There's a couple where I think he must have fallen asleep during the process, though. lol

Sorry for the "we." If this album is not your thing then it doesn't make you any less of a fan, in my opinion. If you're more into the D&P...TGE...Eman type Prince albums where there are lots of horns and guest rappers, etc. that's cool.

I'm grateful for this album because it's like reconnecting with an old friend from 25+ years ago and having a better time than you had 'back in the day.' It's fun to be a fan. It's fun to get juiced about music. I feel my supernatural patience with Prince since Batman has finally paid off.

No! I seriously doubt Prince meant it to be. This is more like the bootlegs/demos that leaked out in the 80s from '82 to '87. It's more of a quiter, subtle statement.

I wouldn't compare it to no album, I'll take the album for what it's worth. A middle-aged pop legend settled in his own skin and not overdoing things though not a cohesive album at least it increases in quality rather than quantity, which is what he was focusing on with some of the albums in the past six years.

MPLSound, although i think I preferred that - it felt more polished.

I think a lot of fans are really digging 20TEN because they didn't hear the Lotusflow3r set (it wasn't distributed to the UK -altho i got a copy sent! smile) - the reactions I'm seeing here are very much what I felt when I hear Lotusflow3r/MPLSound for the first time - at the time i rated that as his best since 1996's Emancipation and I still do. (Not forgetting the amazing track but often overlooked track 'Elixer' from Bria's album which is Prince at his sensual best).

Boom, Crimson and Clover and Dreamer are amazing gems from Lotusflow3r.

Better with Time, Ol Skool Company and the 'Delirious' inspired No More Candy 4 U were great on MPLSound.

There are some great tracks on this, such as Beginning Endlessly, Act of God, Lavaux and Kate Bush sounding 'Walk in Sand'.

However, in some areas it sounds a bit cheesy which is not something i usually associate with Prince...Compassion / Future Soul Song / Everybody Loves Me are examples.

This is first couple of listens mind. Anyone else feel he was trying to emulate the raw funk of Dirty Mind in Everybody Loves Me, and the seemingly rushed feel to the album?

However, one criticism is the sound still sounds a bit vaccumy/plasticy - ie not airy/light sounding. An audience track a la Cause and Effect would have been great on some of these. (Why, oh why wasn't that included, that was a great track!)

Almost MPLSound Pt II

You're mixing Amarna with Isis? I somehow doubt Amarna was a place where "Where u can be anyone u wish 2 be"... hmmm.

People who know me know that I've been in a love/hate relationship with PRINCE.

I love love love this cd. No one is going to agree on if it's good. Nobody is right, nobody is wrong.

I just know that I love it.

Is it me or does that Lavaux song is reminiscent of AUTOMATIC the Pointer Sister's song? I love it either way.
