For fuck's sake, ".net"? Seriously? You do know that ".NET" is a name Micrsoft uses for their platform, right?
It's "the Internet" of "the web". But "the .net"? That's just you making up lame stuff. © Bart Van Hemelen

He's using the 80's beat to create a pop sound with lyrics focused on where he is today ...out of 3 tracks i like 2, so not bad....
The new interview is much better than the first....

there are two things I dislike of last princes album from musicology to now (and this samples too): - the songs are nice or bad, but usually are generic bad and generic nice songs. The creativity of the prince is over during "news" session. Lotus and mnplsound are not "so bad" prince album, but all the songs are "standard prince" songs. Is not the autotune the problem, but the automatic pilot. - the voice. Prince has got 54 years old, more or less, and his voice has changed in those last years and hear his actual flat and wooden voice make pop songs, trying to imitate his younger voice, is a "sofferenza" for the soul. After "news" I was hoping he could find different way to make music and adapt his music to the change of the years (and age!), but he's pretending to be a 29 years forever using photoshop and making evanescent pop-song. "Detto questo" I get all he can give to us, but the entertainment I had when I listened his works has gone.

The person as you must know is talking about the WWW (worldwideweb) but nobody uses that term any more in common speak it's just "the net" or "the internet"
I really don't see the point in trying to correct the person just because they put a . in front of net , when at the end of the day they are talking about the (WWW) .

What about your opinions on the tracks, Bart? That would be a tad more interesting.

One of the biggest misconceptions about us "80's Prince lovin" fans is that we want newer Prince material to sound like 80's material. WRONG! We want newer Prince material to sound inspired and creative like it did in the 80's, because virtually every 80's Prince album sounded different. We don't want some retread of 1999 or SOTT, and just because there's a Linn drumbeat doesn't mean we will love it. [Edited 7/6/10 3:29am]

Bart, please tell me you of all people are not that out of touch with the new terminology.
It's unlike you to be a nubile, but in this case you were too quick to catchafire a fellow .netter! [Edited 7/6/10 3:25am] Just somewhere in the middle,

Just to add to this, every Prince album has sounded different since 1990 - 2010, not sure what your point is ? Prince has never repeated any album and his sound is his sound, so to say he's doing a retread is pushing the boat out a bit too far ...... really enjoying these, they do sound like 80's out-takes which is more than cool with me. MPLS had 2 or 3 good trax and aside from No more candy in no way resembled the classic MPLS sound - I have to say based on these very brief samples that it's a step back into that much loved sound. Could this be the CD for old bastards like me I wonder!

I predict that Lavaux will be a huge fan fave. These clips do sound like they are from '83-86, lovin the almost demo like quality and is it me or is the Lynn being used as it should be for the 1st time in a long time!. Oh, Lavaux sounds like the pointer sisters 'Automatic'!!.

Once upon a time, when I played a prince album I listen something I never hear before. Something strange, often a new way to use his music in a different way. Take computer blue, tamborine, do u lie and if I was your girlfirend, positivity: nice or bad songs, but everytime there was a change in his music, voice, influences. If I take Call my name, get on the boat, mr. goodnight, forever and dance 4 me (for example) I can listen nice or bad songs, but are "standard prince song", music I have already listened in other prince album. The influences of actual prince are coming from prince. It is not so fun. But relax and listen the new album, we can only get what we can get.

Oh come on Dance 4 Me sounds the same as what Prince track ??
There is nothing standard about prince's music or albums ... that's why he's Prince ...I think alot of Prince fans look at Rock Prince as Prince and forget he's been doing Funk, Soul since the 80's, if you don't like Soul, Funk music then that's your problem really.
Prince is prince...i really don't get how he can not be himself?

erotic city? fell u up? wonderful ass? come on, if you want to tell me that Dance 4 me is a surprise and an original song from prince I think you have not so much prince's album And not, prince in '80 was not only a funker, but was able to put inside the funk a lot of other stuff.
But I don't want to open a battle, relax and wait for the album.

Well, I like the sound. Love the 'retro' elements.
Doesn't indicate Prince is in 2010 making new songs from '82. Just means he is using some vintage elements, re-discovering parts of his older sounds. Regardless, tell me what IS truly modern and contemporary these days? True innovations?
If Hip-Hop can sample Prince, Prince sure as hell can. If Pharrell keeps digging up Prince's minimalist 80's productions and touching them up with modern drum-machines, Prince sure as F--- can.
Prince can't win. If he makes a typical contemporary album he's accused of 'following trends.' If he employs a more band-oriented, organic sound, it will be largely denounced as 'flat and boring.' If he releases R&B it will be labeled 'plastic' and 'generic.' A Funk Album will be 'dated' with 'over-long jams' and 'unfocused songwriting.' More seem satisfied with Prince's rock material, but even then, it will 'lack the energy' of Prince's live performances be 'over-produced' or some other shit.
I am not suggesting we should all unanimously love everything Prince does, but I'm pretty convinved people here would have complained in '87 when he released 'Sign O Times.' In '88 'Lovesexy' would have been 'over-produced', 'grandiose' with 'too many instruments in the mix' and 'ridiculous lyrics.' 'Parade' would be an 'unfocused' mess with 'alien' parisian and orchestral sounds; 'over-indulgent' rather than 'truly experimental.' 'Around the World in a Day' Prince's 'psychedelic, beatles hangover', a real 'dissapointment' after the glories of 'Purple Rain.' '1999', a 'plastic dance album' missing the raw, up-front sounds of 'Dirty Mind' and 'Controversy'. And so on, right back to 'For You.'
