Well, at least it's not the Daily Mail again. The Mirror is vaguely left-wing trash, I can bring myself to buy that and chuck the paper straight in the bin. Whereas there was no way I'd ever give money to the far-right hatemongering bastards at the Mail.

I heard Prince loves the Mirror.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

That was slightly unexpected, but here in Scotland the Daily Record is quite a popular newspaper (from a personal point of view, I'm annoyed at having to give them money in truth - some of the agendas that are apparent don't sit well with me), so he's certainly going to get even more exposure here than he did with Planet Earth.

So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

The only downside is that I have to buy a trash tabloid like the 'Daily Mirror.' Usually, it is against my religion.

The upside is the new Prince album easily accesible at every newsagent, at a very economic-friendly price, with the prospect of a SERIES of Prince multimedia themed issues. That more than outweighs the negative.

I may however, enter the newsagent disguised. Perhaps I shall take inspiration from Prince's classic 'old man' look.

Awesome news. No idea why people are complaining about the paper it's coming with. I couldn't care if it's distributed with the sport, it's a prince album for pennies. Much better than £10 in tescos. smile

Mirror and Record to give away Prince album

The Daily Mirror and its Scottish stablemate, the Daily Record, are to give away the new Prince album, 20TEN.

More than 2.5m copies of the free CD will be distributed with the
papers on Saturday 10 July.

It follows the success of Prince's ...m giveaway, with the Mail on Sunday, in July 2007.

The album deal is part of a multimedia collaboration with the singer that will see the Mirror and Record run a series of Prince-themed features. eek It includes his first British newspaper interview in more than 10 years and ticket giveaways to his European concerts.

Kiran Sharma, Prince's representative and producer of his live shows, said: "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World in 1995 was Prince's first number one selling single as a completely free artist.

"Fifteen years on, Prince is demonstrating that in 2010 it is still
possible for artists to work in an independent and innovative capacity,
highlighted here in a world first of delivering the new album across
multiple territories, through complementary distribution channels. eek eek

"The new album, 20TEN, is a celebratory, quintessential Prince masterpiece and marks the start of the international tour."

Mirror editor Richard Wallace said: "We're proud that Prince has chosen the Daily Mirror and Daily Record as the best way to get his new album to his legions of fans in the UK."

Wow....Prince is really breaking new ground here! - Very Smart move! cool

wink But they will complain, and complain, and complain.

And when they hear the album, they will complain about that too.

If Prince were to turn up on their doorsteps with instruments and recording equipment, and write and record an album to their exact specifications........they would find still find something to complain about.

um no, its not possible for 'artists' to release this way, its only possible for Prince, because he's Prince, or for Elton John, because he's Elton John, or for ALREADY WELL-KNOWN ARTISTS across the board, but new artists? no.

this may be an exercise in innovation, but its not relevant to 'artists' unless they are well-known.

imo, newspaper give-aways cheapen Prince and his music. dont know bout you all, but newspaper is what some folk use to clean up vomit, then chuck it in the trash.

the whole concept is inconsistent with anything even remotely musical and even though it's innovative, its not necessarily smart.

sorry people's i just get irked by 'representatives' who talk in a manner which shows they have no real connection to the true value of Prince's work, but hey, if they wanna throw it out there with raped rainforests and call it a brilliant idea they can be my guest lol

I think your getting the music making and music distribution mixed up, That's all they are doing, it's the same thing as going into wal-mart/asda and buying a CD in the store, or selling the CD's out the back of your car.

Prince is just showing artist that you don't have to be chained like a slave to a record company, you can live and do what you want outside of the industry, he's breaking down doors and changing the game

Record companies are slowy changing because of his actions artist are getting more rights, more freedom.

Precisely. It doesn't "cheapen" the music, it gets it out there to a broad audience, distributes millions of copies in a DAY rather than a month, earns Prince more money, earns the paper more money and consumers get the best deal because they effectively get it for free!! How is that not a win-win for everyone?! And, if its an environmental situation for you "raped rainforests" - well, you should stick to downloads because digi-packs tend to be made out of paper. As do the sleeves. And the plastic that makes cds........you get my point?! Mind you, downloading requires electricity, electricity is produced from burning fossil fuels etc etc !! lol

cool

i suspect he will soon be giving his music away for free on the internet to show artists exactly how much freedom they really have, if indeed that is his primary concern ?

oh thats right. the internet is over, and therefore artists no longer have true freedom, so a newspaper deal is the next best bet?

hail freedom. hail artists rights. i'm uber charmed

this too shall pass

I agree and thought the same thing, but.. hypothatically, what if this started to take off and papers periodically included record giveaways to boost their readership? I could see themquickly exploring alternatives to the big names (cheaper too...) such as compilations of "the hottest new acts" or themed compilations etc. This could potentially become a new avenue of getting music out there (it's not really that new, though, is it? Music mags and other rags have been doing it for years - I have on my ipod a great compilation disk given away with a local paper about 12 years ago...)

I think some people think it "cheapens" the music because it can give the appearance that if the album was any good, it would be worth the effort of promoting it and getting it out there through conventional channels - not just in terms of having it on a shelf in the record store, but all the guff that comes with that like mainstream radio play, TV, singles, promo etc, etc.

Honestly, I think this is how the wider audience often see it - especially since Prince has been known since the prince days as shitting out triple CDs and vanity projects full of filler whenever he feels like it.

The CD is promoting the tour, much like Planet Earth did - Again, it's seen as a freebie, it has no value.
