For sure, there was no Revolution in 1981 (Controversy Era)..which is when this picture is from.
If I am not mistaken, "The Revolution" did appear on the 1999 album cover. However, Prince didn't refer to the band as such...neither did anyone else. If someone tells you they were calling Prince's group "The Revolution" in 1983 they are lying. Dez wasn't a member of The Revolution. It wasn't until 1984 that the band was officially titled as such.
The Revolution is: Lisa, Wendy, Mark, Dr. Fink, and Matt...it expanded during 1985/1986.
Basically, if it ain't with Wendy and Lisa, it's not officially The Revolution.

Just watched the remastered version of PR last night with all the special editions! Loved it! But the days of the Revolution are long gone--and although P may collaborate with some members from time to time, that ship has sailed...as it should have done. The 80s were the time and place for that band and that sound...Prince will not regroup to become a has-been retro act! If he does that, he will do it on his own...as he has done everything else! If anything, he will do a world tour with Larry Graham and company... | |

A touch of nostalgia is nice...but if it hasn't happened now, it's never gonna happen.

Again....No one in 1982/1983 called them Prince and The Revolution. Prince wasn't listed on the charts that way, the album wasn't registered that way, fans didn't call them that. Not until 1984 and not until Wendy was a member were they called "The Revolution". Close enough isn't close at all without Wendy and Lisa. [Edited 7/5/10 20:16pm] "New Power slide...." |
