*LoveSexy* . . . TRACKED

ok,i bought Lovesexy in sydney in sept 2001.
had no idea about this rare tracked cd thing . . . .
until i was talking 2 my friend Billy aka The Orger Formerly Known As Funkystrange . .. .. .& he told me it is XTREMELY RARE & that it is worth a bit.
i had a look on eBay & they were going for around $60us.

Also i would like 2 add, that in a thread only 1-2 hours ago i sed i didnt really like LoveSexy as an album . .. . well i listened 2 the whle damn thing just b4 & it blew me away finally!
it hit me just how funky & wild musically & lyrically it is.
so now i LOVE IT! thanx 4 gettin on my case billy lol

But my REAL POINT . .. . .is who here HAS the TRACKED copy of the *LoveSexy* cd,& also who knows perhaps how many were made.
mine is Manufactured In Germany.
only cost me $30 new at RedEye in sydney . . .or maybe $20au,not sure.
seems like this is a great bargain, but i wont sell it anyway so its not 4 monetery gain that i wanna know .. . .just curious & also seems like it would be a great discussion topic.

peace
love

I think most versions you will find brand new these days are tracked - at least in Europe.

I've had 3 copies of the album, and only the first was untracked.

Inital tracked vinyl promo copies were sent out to radio stations in 88.

The tracked version was SO on sale four years (or sumthing) back in Holland.
Every year the record co's put out this sale; get three, pay two (or sumthing)
I have told SO many fans GET THIS! FINALLY TRACKED!

Even though I love listen to the one track version better, somehow...

You've got to be kidding me, every single copy of Lovesexy on sale in the UK is tracked. In fact it's selling for a fiver right now. Maybe I'll buy up every copy and sell them on eBay myself!

The only copy on ebay at this moment is priced at 19.99 with a buy now of 29.99 and nobody has bid.

OK, this is what's causing the confusion:

The rare tracked version of Lovesexy actually ís from the US. It is a DJ promo copy which is identical to the released version, apart from the fact that it is tracked.
This still is a rare find, but it has lost it's value after the regular tracked versions of Lovesexy where released in Germany and later in the UK and the rest of europe.

There are enough fans, that do not know about the existence of the normal tracked CD...like your friend Billy.

In europe, the not-tracked CD is hard to find now.

Btw, the booklet still mentions the tracks as being in one continuous order.

So, no rare find, just an import. probably worth a bit more where you live.

I have two copies of this album - one is tracked, the original is just one continuous track. It was a pain in the bloody ass when you'd be listening to it on your Discman, then suddenly press the 'Rewind' button by mistake!!! So you can guess which one gets played more often.

Thank God I did find the tracked version! I hardly ever
listened to 'Lovesexy' until then (see above); once I was able to enjoy and dissect each song individually I was blown away. To think I may have put it aside for good.

It was a very bold move for Prince, I think. Who else would've done that? Not only did he release the most 'difficult' album of career; he went and made it one continuous track! You've GOT to admire his balls. wink

Is this the only time an album has ever been issued like this? I don't know of any others.

Are the original and current tracked CDs continuous in sound? I mean, do they have extra silence or fade-outs not found in the un-tracked discs?
I ask because I have what I think is an original Lovesexy cassette, and each track is separated by silence, with some fading out in places.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

I have a tracked CD of Lovesexy, from Germany.

Although it certainly isn't rare, and I wouldn't dream of ripping any fans off... I have been offered very large amounts of cash for it (i.e. hundreds of dollars).

What is it about a fool and his money...

On the strength of this thread, I've just gone out to re-buy the Lovesexy CD (I'm in the UK). £8.99 for a brand new TRACKED copy. At last! I can listen to it properly.

Ian, you must have the strength of a bull!!! $200??!

Sabaisabai - no, each track just merges into the other, as on the original release. There are no breaks or gaps.

PurpleLove7 - the cd IS an official Warner Bros. release but, as far as I know, none of the ORIGINAL copies had tracking. These only appeared on the 95 (?) set of reissues. Perhaps Warners got Prince to compromise; it was never one of their big-sellers first time round. Perhaps they felt that if they were going to reissue the thing, they might as well make it marketable (to non-fans).

I guess it's one of these that I picked up. If I ever have to buy another one, I'll make sure I get to test it first!

After all these years of having an untracked copy I bought one last year on e-bay for around $20. Finally after all these years to be able to program the Lovesexy Cd & The Black CD going back & forth between both cds - it is heaven.

It really is amazing the difference having a tracked 'Lovesexy' makes, isn't it?? My appreciation of it grew virtually overnight. To be able to go STRAIGHT to 'I Wish U Heaven' (one of my all-time faves) is pure joy.

Isn't listening to th e TRACKED one against how Prince intended it though? Or ar you saying "finally able to listen to itproperly" coming from your own perspective i.e. able to play favorites right off the bat, rewind etc?

I'm not sure that Prince always knows just what his fans want (NPGMC 2002 suggests this). On CD, Lovesexy was less easy to appreciate because, speaking for myself, half the time I couldn't be bothered to fast forward to the second half of the album and therefore didn't listen to those songs as much as I could have done. Interestingly, it was Mavis Staples' cover of 'Positivity' that encouraged me to listen to P's version of that song a lot more. I'd listened to her version more than I'd ever listened to the original, simply because I could go straight to it on Mavis' album.
Like all albums, when you first listen to them, there's always one or two tracks that stand out and you keep playing them over and over again before appreciating the rest of the album. The original CD pressing of Lovesexy deprived you of that privilege. Also, take the example of 'Dance On' (A thread has just been dedicated to that song). Before, I just saw it as an interlude between 'Anna Stesia' and the title track. I've spent the last half-hour appreciating it a lot more and accepting it as a proper song - thanks to being able to play it as a seperate track.
I personally feel that Prince made a mistake insisting that the whole CD was pressed as one track.
Perhaps he feels so too, seeing as The Rainbow Children was tracked when that feels even more like it was supposed to be listened to as a whole.

Thanks rdhull, these are the type of discussions that I enjoy taking part in.
peace 2 U

When Lovesexy was released I was buying my music on tape so I bought Lovesexy on tape. Which meant I could fast forward thru songs, make mix tapes with various songs, etc. The one track gimmick was non-existant on a cassette tape. A few months later I bought my first cd player & Lovesexy was one of the first cds I bought. So having Lovesexy on both tape & cd I never experienced the one track deal as a problem. Now a days I'm strictly cd so getting the tracked Lovesexy on cd was great.

I don't listen to love sexy that often because mine is not tracked, and sometimes I'm into a song on it and like a Jackass hit the back button on my cd player and it goes all the way to the beginning of the cd.

This album drove me crazy!!! Before I got connected to any P info, I bought/sold my discs 3 times before it sunk in that the majority of the US discs were untracked. I still don't have an official untracked copy, and most that you will find (US versions) are untracked. I finally had to track it myself in order to enjoy the CD (God it was a pain to FF through the whole album to get to Anna Stetia!!!).

I also have both versions, they have different catalogue numbers on the side label of the CD:

- 7599-25720-2 (this is the TRACKED version);

BTW: the above number is also printed on the upper left corner of the backside of the CD. However, this is NOT the case with the contiunous one:

- 9 25720-2 (this is the continunous version).

Now run & tell yo momma about that!

The DJ promo is different from the released tracked cd.
Not only is it tracked, the tracks all fade out!!
For example, "I know" fades out on the DJ promo and you will hear a second of silence between "I know" and "Alphabet St.". On the tracked-cd "I know" and "Alphabet St." flow perfectly.

Therefor, I don't think that the DJ promo has lost it's value. It's still very rare and different from the original cd. lol

Peace,
