Why Mayte? It could be Prince himself just like for the song Cream.

Great song.

It was written between Dec 1st '91 and Dec 31st '92. It was recorded for the 'I'll Do Anything' film project, it was recorded or demoed along with ten other songs Prince proposed for the film, including my favorite 'Poor Little Bastard.' Eight of the songs were included in the project (including 'Be My Mirror') which were to be performed by the actors for the film and it's soundtrack. The film project was shelved after terrible test screen results and was transformed into a totally different film.

Four of the eleven songs Prince wrote for the project have now been released on other albums, but unfortunately not 'Be My Mirror,' looks like we will have to put up with the version(s) of that which we have.

So, Mayte could have been the inspiration, as prince met her for the first time on Aug 8th 1990 during The Nude Tour.

Mayte was 16.

Her mother 'dragged' her to a Prince show on 25th July 1990 in Barcelona, Spain. After the gig, her mother encouraged her to undertake a career move (Mayte was a dancer). She gave Kirk Johnson a video of her dancing, and asked him to deliver it to Prince.

Shortly afterwards she received a call asking her to bring another video to a show he was playing in Germany.

At the show on 8th Aug Mayte was asked to go backstage and meet Prince and deliver her 2nd videotape. the rest is history.

Prince is quoted as saying "she was 16, i fell in love."

OMG!!!! That is just too cute, but I'm hoping he waited til she was legal. But still a beautiful story.

Mayte arrived in Minneapolis in early December 1991 to work with Prince on the prince album.

Prince did not invite her to Paisley till she had just turned 18. From the time they first met till her arrival at Paisley they had kept in constant contact with letters and telephone calls, with Mayte sending him videotapes on a regular basis.

The first track she worked on was 'However Much U Want' which was left off the prince album but ended up on Mayte's album in '95.
