What do you guys think about the song "gold"?

I was listening to the gold experience today, and apart from the standouts such as dolphin, endorphinmachine, 319, What is your take on this track. Personally I think the best part is the soaring guitar at the end, just fits so well. It's kind of like I listen to the track just to hear the guitar at the end. X

I remember sitting in a pub around 1995 time and this song had actually got to Number 10 I think in the UK charts. It started playing on either the jukebox or radio and when it got to the guitar solo part, a girl within earshot of me just said out of the blue "this song is orgasmic"

That pretty much sums it up for me too.

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

One of the best songs he has written. One of my favourites, it's so epic!

The guitar solo at the end is out of this world. cool

yea prince got a he'll of slot of radio time during the gold experience era. I was pretty young but had a major crush on a neighbour of mine who played tge aloud from her bedroom and I'd play it loud back just so she knew I loved it too. She wore dr martin boots too !

The whole album was Prince's last truly brilliant, inspired, ballsy, bold, thrilling, and GREAT album. For my Top-40 fan friends who don't keep up with Prince beyond the radio, I give them The Gold Experience, and they love it. It really is the Purple Rain of the 90's (and was recorded 10 years after Purple Rain was recorded and released). If Prince filmed Purple Rain in the 90's, then The Gold Experience would have been the sound and soundtrack.

Let's Go Crazy - Endorphinmachine

Take Me With U -We March

The Beautiful Ones - Shhh! / I Hate U / The Most Beautiful Girl In The World

Darling Nikki - 319

When Doves Cry -Dolphin

Purple Rain - Gold

etc etc

So many great comparisons, yet the album stands on its own, without blinking.

Take me with U = We March???

Thematically, I think Dolphin is more like a slowed way down glam rock "I Would Die 4 U"

Its really good, the song is basically a remake of Purple Rain, so its not as good but I still enjoy it very very much. The album as a whole is brilliant, i consider it the best Princ album of the 90's.

One of my faves...a perfect closer from a perfect album.

I had to drive to Minneapolis from Chicago for work in the winter of 95. First time I visited that awesome city. As I was crossing the border from Wisconsin to Minnesota Gold came on the radio. Timing couldn't have been better. cool

just horribly corny... Prince always has been corny but when he was at his best he was so good that corny worked

It's definitely on my top ten Prince songs! I loove it! Everything about it, the instrumental, the singing, lyrics. Although I love the song Purple Rain, as much as I like it, I would so love to get the opportunity to hear this live someday.

The guitar solo is its saving grace, I like it but its the least played song from the album.

"Dolphin" on the other hand is just brilliant, I rediscovered it recently after years of skipping it love the song along with "Peach" & "The Ride" make me wanna track down the "Undertaker" sessions/film.
