Something Funky (This House Comes)

I just noticed this as I was watching the South American festivals DVD: during the opening number, Something Funky, Prince's voice can be heard very prominently and very clear on the non-rapped parts ("who that says that we can't jam?"), even though he was not onstage yet. I presumed it was pre-recorded.

I don't hear this on the studio outtake of the song. I wonder if there is a version of the song with Prince's vocal up front. Or is it that he was delivering those lines live from offstage.

Please, if anyone has any insight into this, comment.

Btw, this song is the J-A-M! I'm not terribly crazy about the D & P era, but this track would have made the album much better, imo. It's loose, funky, cheesy as hell, and I love it.

Want a crystal clear outtake so baaaad....drool

I always assumed he was delivering the lines live but from offstage. Sounds live as I recall.

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.
