Prince and Wendy:: The "Reflection" Performance

This performance on the Tavis Smiley show just might go down as my all-time favorite.

The acoustic guitar fits this song so well. Prince sang it flawlessly and both of them never missed a note.

Wendy's facial expressions were great too. That sounds strange to say, but it's true!

Who else wants to show some love for this beautiful moment?

Falling leaves will appear to them.. Like slow-motion rain..

From a songwriting point of view, this song is one of the few in the 2000's that screams "inspired and heartfelt" to me, and this live performance only solidified that opinion (although the recording and arrangement of the studio version is HORRIBLE to me).

Wendy looks tense, as if she had difficulties to follow the song's chords.

Actually that look reminds me of when he kissed her on the cheek in Purple Rain

From her comments on that Reflections performance she was actually reflecting herself and was in a state of admiration. She said something 2 the affect of 'he's still very beautiful' etc etc

U see that look in just about every performance with them 2gether since the start

2 sevens together,
like time, indefinite,
try to catch the glass before it falls,
without a frown,
can you turn up the stereo?
I wanna play you this old song,
it's about love,
can I do that?
Did we remember to water the plants today?
I forgot to look up at the moon
because I was too busy, yes,
I was too busy,
too busy looking at you,
oh, baby, still,
it's nice to know that, uh,
when bodies wear out,
we can get another,
what does that one thing have to do with the other one?
I don't know,
i was just thinking about my mother,
you know what?
Turn the stereo back down,
ain't nothing worse than an old, worn-out love song,
do you like my hair this way?
Remember all the way back in the day
when we would compare whose afro was the roundest?
Mirrored tiles above the bed,
fishnets and posters all over the walls,
oh, yeah,
sometimes I just wanna go out,
you know what I mean,
playing my guitar,
just watch all the cars go by

Prince: And Wendy makes me seem all right in the eyes of people Watching.

Neal Karlen: How so?

Prince: She keeps a smile on her face. When I sneer, she smiles. It's not premeditated, she just does it. It's a good contrast.

Glad to see I'm not the only one admiring this song.

It's the kind of track that makes me believe he hasn't lost everything. Even the studio version, while a bit lacking in comparison, is still quite nice.

Plus, the *lyrics* to this song are on point. Usually Prince is horrible in that department, but not here...

Just great.

At the 07/07/07 concert when the first chords of Purple Rain were being played and the spotlight came on and it was on Wendy, I about lost it. I had been waiting for 22 years for that moment! I love them together, playing off each other.
