Planet Earth (song) appreciation I really like this song. What an epic guitar solo at the end...
Haven't seen much love given for this song.

I do like the song, except the cheesy bridge part. It sounds like something out of a bad rejected Broadway musical. It doesn't "fit" with the rest of the song.

I really do like this song. I had only hoped the rest of the album would be as good. Not to say I don`t like the album but there are two songs on there that I despise... & I hate that! I don`t usually dislike his work that much but I suppose the rest of the album nakes up for what I dob`t like. My fav part about the PE song is the opening voise & piano- very nice.

yeah, I don't like that section very much either. It bothers me a lot less than it used to though.

I like the song.
I was a bit confused as to why the rest of the album didn't carry the asthetic theme of the song throughout. On the surface the name of the album makes you think it's concept album, but in reality it's really little more than a compilation of ideas.
I like the song though. | |

This is a fantastic song. Pure and simple.
Prince captures some of the old along with some of the new and I too am surprised at the lack of love for this. A beautiful, powerful, anthemic classic.
I'd take one "Planet Earth" over a hundred "Hot Summer"'s! Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.

THANK you.
It's one of my favorite Prince songs of all time. The guitar solo (and the tense build-up into it) just overwhelms me. What perfect lyrics too... love it.

I like it a lot. The guitar solo is short and sweet. But on the other hand, it could have been much better if the solo was extended a little bit and the lalala-la-la-latin jazz interlude had been completely ditched. If only I had the time and energy I did 5 years ago to bother to edit the hell out of it.

I wonder what makes Prince decide to open or close an album with the title track...almost wonder why he opened PE with this since it is kind of anthemic, a la Gold or Purple Rain. Would make a good closer. But then maybe he didn't want to be predictable I like the song, btw. Worst opening song on a Prince album ever. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

hrrmmmm. I'll see your Planet Earth with a New Power Soul and raise it with a There'll Never B Another Like Me.

Uhhhh...it's an opinion, dude. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Have not heard it since the first time I played it just like Condition Of The Heart and Still Would Stand All Time...boring and cheesy to me.
Just somebody saying "planet earth" sounds like some 'new hipster talk' from the 60's to sound cool...I just couldnt do it. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Wow, I never cease to be shocked by the limitations some have in their listening habits lol. So u have only heard these 3 songs 1 time and dismissed them for all eternity? I find that shocking. Do u apply that to other things in life as well. One strike you're out. Part of growing is giving things a chance past the inital moment.
That second statement about "hipster talk" makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

That second statement about "hipster talk" makes absolutely no sense what so ever. Look...ok I did try to like these songs but by the first to second minute in I start to fall asleep. They just sound likke they are trying too hard to sound "epic". Take Crystal Ball, Adore, or All My Dreams..they sound like accidental masterpieces that began with a simple idea and all of q sudden turned into something fantastic. Frankly Planet Earth and the other mentioned songs I listed sound as if he sat there and said "ok...I have to make a Grand Progression of the album.." or something to that effect. It sounds forced and overblown in my opinion...not natural and flowing.... Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Great track! Wish I could love the album as a whole, but it has a very quick thrown together feel about it to me. Not sure why. Ishan Cooper - #BATFUNKCRAZY LP out now.. in 3D!!! https://ishancooper.bandcamp.com PURE UNCUT FUNK FROM DOWNUNDER \m/

Nice. I like the whole album!!! Very under-rated, and given democratically to the people of the UK. YES, he gave us our 'plus' sign that day, and put the squires up the Music Buss. at the same time. Genius and kind. What a combination. --------

I think he should have stayed with the Earth idea and used it more as a political album. SHOE sort or fits in but then it gets way off with the other songs. I don't think there is another Prince song that sounds anything like Planet Earth, but I may be wrong. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.
