Oh, for pete's sake. He ripped his fans off, pure and simple. He already had a history of doing that, which is why some people held off joining. When his insatiable greed determined he didn't get enough money from the site, he abandoned it.

Yes he planned to have the website fail so he could obtain the great sum of $77.00 from the few hundred who joined. Dude are you on crack? P thinks if you" build they will come"

kind of like the last minute notices for after shows and concerts well in a bad economy, with piss poor planning, a web team that could not stop people from hacking in, and no idea of what the profit would be for this project it was doomed to fail but you keep thanking that P is on some vast conspiracy to rip off his fans (LOL) He just fucked this up and that is all it is really about.

Just to add to the point above...

Prince is a musician = FACT

Prince knows nothing about Website Design = FACT

Prince paid a top Website Designer who knew nothing about E-commerce websites = FACT

You should be able to get it in any supermarket (in Flanders) and any newspaper shop. It's kind of a "popular" newspaper with a rather wide circulation.

Bull...shit!! The only thing nobody wants to pay for is...crap! Be it crap music and/or crap websites!

Had Lotusflow3r.com been a good or even fairly decent website in regards to CONTENT, people would have happily plucked down the $77.00 to join, myself included. It didn't make the profit that he wanted because it seriously LACKED in content...plain and simple.

The only one the internet may be over for is Prince and that's no one's fault but his own because he just simply refuses to utilize the power of it properly!

Perfect example of his naivete when it comes to the power of the internet...

There is no way in fucking hell, I would pay $77.00 to join a website that he owned, to just download whatever songs his newest CD has to offer.

However, I'd do it in a heartbeat to see live streaming video of the shows where he will be...hopefully performing those new songs...(wave Hey Bart!)...this summer in Europe! Which are just waaaay out of my budget for me to go and see in person!

I'm certain that I'm not alone in that. However, Prince will settle for only making money off of the people that can get to the venue, instead of utilizing the power of the internet for what it does to include and get paid from the other hundreds of thousands of millions...of his fans all around the world.

That's a damn shame but it is what it is because that's the way he wants it to be! shrug

I'm not sure you live in the real world, Prince just see the internet as marketing tool, which it is, it a way to sell or market yourself, Prince knows nothing about building websites, he just has the idea and gives it to a "website designer" that person, if they know what they are talking about will tell Prince "Yes" it will work or "No" it won't....

Prince's website failed because the website designer lied about what he could deliver for the amount of money he asked for to do the job for simple...

Plain and simple ..... Just a bad business deal ...which is normal in business ... Prince is a musician not Donald Trump he get business deal wrong.... who cares?

[Edited 6/24/10 10:07am]

Sadly...you, Prince and a few others around here...are the ones living on Fantasy Island!

In the real world...I've personally WATCHED entire empires be built solely on the power of the internet and giving the people what they want...AOL, Yahoo, Google, Paypal, Ebay, Youtube, Current TV, Myspace, FaceBook, Twitter, the PhotoshopUser guys and hell, even ChatRoulette which was started by some 15 year old who was bored.

When you do it right...the people and the money will come!

Prince's problem is he doesn't want to do the internet right! He wants to do it HIS way and HIS way only! If he weren't so busy listening to all the Mr. Roarkes and Tattoos around him that happily make excuses for him, since he was one of the first superstars to embrace the potential of the internet as a marketing tool, he'd have had the hottest superstar/musician/celebrity website...YEARS AGO...when he had good web developers*** at his beckon call!!! rolleyes

I don't believe much of anything that Prince says in interviews because Prince is the same Prince he always was, the one that loves to play games with the interviewer's mind. You will never get the truth or a straight answer out of him. The more Prince "speaks" the less of a fan I become. He talks about change, but he's still the same person he's always been from the beginning. As much as he wants you to believe it, nothing much has changed about him at all. I've been a fan of Prince from the start, I'm 49 yrs. old, will be 50 in a couple of months, but the difference is I've grown up, Prince hasn't. I was amused by his antics when I was younger, today I'm not. I no longer find them "cute or adorable" anymore, and I feel that I'm too old for games, but it seems that Prince still loves playing them. I myself am finding them a turn off. The man needs to realize that he's 52 now, no longer in his 20's and neither are the majority of his fans. I don't know about some, but I am no longer entertained by Prince "interviews"......they are as annoying and frustrating as he is, as far as I concerned, a complete waste of time reading.

Well I think you are wrong. People have to fork up the $77.00 first to find out what the content over the year membership will be. I think very few people bothered to join because they did not want to pay the money for the following reasons.

1). We are in a bad economy and he just picked a bad time to start this venture.

2) Loads of people will tell you straight out they are not going to pay for music.

3) P did not have the proper people in place to forecast how many members he would need to make a profit and what sort of content his fans will buy. It appears he did no research before throwing the site up therefore, making the project doomed from the start.

If he is not willing to hire competent business people to develop a business plan than for him the internet is dead.

Well, I KNOW you are wrong. If there had even been the slightest possibility of that website having serious CONTENT that people actually wanted. They'd have joined! If not immediately, they'd have joined when they could afford it because it would have been worth it to them.

The economy is still bad and Prince doesn't have people in place that can forcast how many tickets he can sell for a concert but that is not stopping him from going to Europe, now is it?

Well sorry you are the one living in a fantasy world because you cannot accept that P is going to do it his way or no way. I can accept that and can move on with my life. Unfortunately, you cannot that is pretty much the problem with most of the wack jobs on this board. You want dude to do what you want and cannot accept that this is not going to happen. Might be time for you to move on to different artist who probably have great websites that they do not make money off of because most people would rather steal music than buy it.

Yes, and P could have waited around for a year or two for people to decide they wanted to join !!!!

I guess if he has the funds to throw out the window he would have waited around but apparently he did not want to. If I had a dollar for every person I have heard say outloud " I steal music off the internet and I do not and will not pay for anything" I would be a weathy person.

People simply do not want to pay for music and CD sells prove what I am saying. In addition, I have never heard anyone say they will not pay to see a concert and concert ticket sales over all have not fallen as badly as CD sales. P managed to make over 100 million a few years ago he knows exactly how much money he can make on the road.

Prince has always been albums ahead...I'm happy that a new album is coming SHORTLY!!! I am also suprised that basically he is putting out album after album just because he loves to make music..its fine even if it is mediocre..I did enjoy 3121 alot..and Lotus Flower was pretty good too...they are just missing some seriousness and hunger that were in some previous albums.... But hey We will not know until we hear 20Ten so i'm pumped and ready for some new Prince.

What are you talking about these business are sole "Internet" only business, Prince is talking about selling Music, he's comparing Itunes to a large recorded label, and he should know!

He's seen from the inside how these industries have changed over the years, and will keep changing as the business model has to keep changing or these business won't make money in the future...FACT!

The Web Developer failed because he did not understand the business model, plain and simple, all business work on that basis, if the Web Designer did not have one it will also fail - simple

Wikipedia does not tell you this but it's a fact of business online !

lol

lol You do know that I am a Web Developer by trade, don't you? I could sell YOU on the internet, if you were something people wanted!

I understand fully and completely understand what Prince wanted to do, as well as where and how he failed at it. FACT! shrug

Well then, you know that Prince knows nothing about Website Design and Development and only works with an idea, dream etc... concept... he would have had no understanding of how to take that idea, dream, concept to market....Right!

Hence the failure of the website is down to the Web developer/designer because he did not have any idea how to create an e-commerce business model from Prince's idea, no model , no business..

lol

Well sorry you are the one living in a fantasy world because you cannot accept that P is going to do it his way or no way. I can accept that and can move on with my life. Unfortunately, you cannot that is pretty much the problem with most of the wack jobs on this board. You want dude to do what you want and cannot accept that this is not going to happen. Might be time for you to move on to different artist who probably have great websites that they do not make money off of because most people would rather steal music than buy it.

Wrong...again! I can and have accepted that Prince is going to be Prince and he is going to do shit his way, even if it fails him. shrug

What I can't and won't accept from "the wack jobs on this board", that spend a great deal of their time making excuses for him...is the fault for his miserable failures being placed anywhere but directly at his own feet! no no no!

I am not making excuses for him. I put out the facts that he did not find competent people to run the site and had not clue one has too how much money he was willing to spend and how many members were going to be needed to make a profit. All of the forecasting and market research could have been done by any competent e-commerce consulting firm not some web designers.

He made bad decisions before the site even got off the ground but he wants to do it his way so he lived and he learned. In addition, I still think he picked the worst time to start this venture.

Good then you understand that their was no business model for this site. It was a bulid it and they will come mindset that doomed it to failure. Know if you know all this you should be able to pipe down.

So if Prince has "an idea, dream etc... concept" for a CD that doesn't sell well, is that the fault of the Sound Engineer or the CD manufacturer?

How about if Prince has "an idea, dream etc... concept" for a concert but the tickets don't sell well, is that the fault of the venue?

What will be the release amount of the newspaper? I.e.: how many papers will be printed for distribution with the CD? Can I reserve a few copies somewhere? (I am Dutch if you didn't know yet )

The usual amount of papers is 295.677 (check www.vumregie.be/nl/mediab...entenaar), but I'm sure they will 'pump up the volume' on July 10th. My newspaperguy immediately ordered more copies then usual when he heard about the Prince cd that'll come with it.
