Ha ha ha ha ha @ that video of those kids. That was funny and subtle as all get out. That link will not last till the end of the day on here, you know the mods will pull it because his music is in it. But the video is cute as all get out. Dude in the center kind of reminds me of RayJay.
The more that I hear this song, the more that I'm actually liking it.
That and some , one in paticular loves to abuse her authority.
Anyway, Black Sweat really grew on me

Was there another video like this? I was at a party once and the music was off but there was a very simular video. I think Prince was drinking tea and he might havehad the turban thing on his head. The woman was adorable, quite short and curvy with a Captain and Tenelle haircut. Her dancing reminded me of a lava lamp. Anybody know what the hell i am talking about??? it has been bugging me for a while. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin. |

There you go.
Reason it wasn't coming up was because you had a link inside the youtube tags, instead of just text.

Even today, I'll never understand why Black Sweat was NEVER a hit like it should've been.
Becuase of radio. I mean, I think it was the age of Itunes, but still Itunes is run by keeds who only know the mainstream pap churned out by radio (and sometimes TV shows). It got some attention on the music channels (which where barely playing videos). I also thought if Prince were to have a hit single again, this would've been it! The video is great! Also, is it just me or did he not push it at all? Did he perform it on any shows? |

Yeah .. , was playing this just the other day. Better than 'Kiss' in my opinion.
Plus, my four year old loves it. |

Since this thread was posted, that song has grown on me tremendously. At first, I only appreciated the beat. But now I think that the song itself is a good one. Sometimes it just takes Prince's songs to grow on me. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that? |

I think this whole album was his best for the 2000-2009 decade. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin. |

Yeah, I think lack of promotion was the issue, I don't remember him performing it at all, except on tour. He should've cracked that one out on Idol instead of Lolita. Promo is the key these days, ppl have to be made aware that the song exists. |

That high octave keyboard whistle that is the signiture of the song is really patronizing.
Dr. Dre was the one who had brought it to popular music 13 years earlier. Throughout that time, everybody and their grandma (from rappers to boy bands, etc, etc.) had rode the whistling sound bandwagon to death. So by the time Prince decided to use it in Black Sweat, ... everyone else had already stopped because it was so played out and predictable.
Not exactly.
It was a pretty dominant feature through out Parliament/Funkadelic's recordings, and this technique was invented by Mr.Bernie Worrell not Dr.Dre. I took it as Prince paying an ode to him since he idolized those guys(Just like he previously paid his respect to Sly, James, Jimi, Joni, etc) I don't know why you would consider it as patronizing |
