Prince and Eric Clapton Jam

Helloo All purple ones! I am in desperate search of a video of Eric Clapton and Prince jamming together in 14. August. 1986 (AM) Kensington Roof Garden. during the short performance. P invited EC onstage to play a version of Temptations' "I can't get next to y babe."

Does anyone know of this performance? Pics Videos? Audio would be AMAZING!! smile

They apparently jam for quite along time, two of my fav musicians

Thanks

I don't think I ever saw a recording of this event listed anywhere...

be it from soundboard or taped from the audience. Looks like it

never will pop up. Would be cool, though.

Free the music.

The performance is well documented, but there is nothing circulating.

Xibalba

...and of course, there is footage of Eric discussing Prince and his appreciation of him on the 1988 documentary. (Released in 1989, originally screened on BBC2)

There was a short doc on Prince (a musical portrait - or sthg like that) in '88. Along with Miles Davis, George Clinton and Quincy Jones, Clapton spoke about P. I've got it somewhere on VHS, but haven't seen it for years.

If I remember correctly, Clapton mentions Prince as being one of his favourite guitarists. I seem to remember that he also said something about there being "no middle ground with this guy - you either love him or hate him", but that may have been someone else. Again, long time ago. I'm also fairly certain Clapton is quoted in the ACT II tour programme, but I can't be arsed to dig mine out and look!

As already advised, the performance you are looking for doesn't circulate in audio or video

I mean, it is possible that someone, somewhere, made a recording. Prince, for example, might possibly have recorded the event.

However, if a recording does exist, it has never yet been officially released - or leaked and circulated unofficially.

The event was a party held after the second of the three Wembley concerts, and at which he played for a short while. It wasn't even one of the earlier after-shows.

Not on "Prince: A Musical Portait"

It was directed by Albert Magnoli and features contributions from a variety of people: Eric Clapton, George Clinton, Terence Trent D'Arby, Quincy Jones, Little Richard, Randy Newman, and Miles Davis

Clapton's contribution:

"Well, it's, it's quite interesting really because you never seem to get a middle ground with this guy ... there's no-one I've ever met that can just say 'Well, he's OK'. You either hate him or you love him. I've had some real tussles with people that are so anti-him that I don't see that it'll ever change. When people say that he's selling out or that he's a commercial, you know, kind of, exploiter, then I can't see that point at all, and in that area I feel like I know what I'm talking about,"

Parts of the contributions from Miles Davis and Little Richard were featured quotations in the tour book for the Nude tour in 1990.

Featured in the same tour book is a further quotation from Clapton from his appearance on BBC Radio 4's 'Desert Island Discs' in 1988. He chose 'Purple Rain' as one of his 8 songs to take on the imaginary desert island as a castaway.

Clapton is quoted in the tour book as saying, "Prince is the reincarnation of all the best in music. Just what the world needs ... a very controversial figure, but also an absolute musical genius".

"Prince: A Musical Portrait" was first broadcast in 1989, and was later made available to NPGMC members during month 12 of the NPGMC download releases in January 2002.
