Pretty much the catchiest thing he'd written in over a decade.......then he ruined it with his desperation to be relevant with the high pitched whine and overcompressed mix. My ears are still bleeding...

That high pitch sound in "Black Sweat" sort of reminds me of the annoying pitch sound in the theme song for an old soap opera named "Dark Shadows";similar, but not quite. lol

Aww shit. Now that all I'm going to think of when I hear it...Barnabus Collins lol

Black Sweat is great, but where's the 7 minutes extended version with guitar????

the 3121 album is very weak though. One of Prince's worst albums. IMO.

Black Sweat & 3121 are two songs that fit right in with P's classic catalog

lol Barnabus Collins was the shizzit. He was in love with "Angelique's" ghost, and when the scent of jasmine perfume filled the room, he knew her presence was there. Damn, now just thinking of that reminds me how old I am. lol But yeah, that high pitch tone in "Dark Shadows" was eery.

There is an extended 'Black Sweat Ice Cube Remix' but it remains unreleased. It can however be found on the 30 years of unreleased funk bootleg.

My favorite version of it is in the 'Versace' mix, but it is a little short.

I like Black Sweat. I also thought it would be a bigger hit than it was.

This was (so far) the last time I heard and saw something that I thought was truly great and old school Prince. Fun lyrics and a sexy, cocky attitude.

Yes i really love this track, so damn funky, love playin this really loud in the car, but it got no airplay, none whatsoever here in Ireland (surprise surprise) I would much prefer to hear something along these lines than the Hot Summer track we heard recently but still hearing new material is always good.

That was a fun cd. The 3121 track was played so many different ways. My favorite version is the one on the "21 nights in London" cd. Love the horns on that track and when it was played live in Vegas, with that New Orleans sound. It also reminds me 1of Vegas and when it was played live and fans did the "3121" number sign as it was played live.

Black Sweat should have received more radio play, but the promotion just wasn't there for that track. I listened to that track again yesterday. 2006 was fun times to be going to Prince concerts.

I also enjoyed "The Word" and "Get on the Boat". They both were pretty upbeat, even if it did have some religious tones to the lyrics. Even the track "Lolita" was another favorite with a latin/pop flavor to it, and "Te Amo Corazon" was a nice, easy listening ballad. "Incense and Candles" was a nice r&b, romantic track when you want to get your groove on.

I love this song, sounds a lot like vintage Prince to me. A lot of people I know who aren't big Prince fans really like it.

His best song since the '80s, and along with 3121 (the track) and Satisfied, enough to make '3121' (the album) his strongest of the '00s.

It was such a wonderful feeling, hearing Black Sweat when it came out and being able to convince myself for a moment that Prince was finally about to make a full-scale artistic comeback. It was so good I even managed to stay relatively optimistic after the other 3/4 of the album wasn't so hot. Good enough that I was still holding out hope a year or so later when 'Planet Earth' came along and brought me crashing back to reality.

I still think it's really odd how this strange spasm of brilliance came pretty much out of nowhere. Just the way he sounds so carnal and perverse again. It's the most human (fallible, sinful, challenging, engaged) he's sounded since SOTT. It's almost like the last 16 years of his music had been produced by some kind of brilliant automaton Prince-bot, and here the real thing came back for an encore.

((this isn't to say I don't like some of the other later records, but Black Sweat is in another league, really...))

There you go.

Reason it wasn't coming up was because you had a link inside the youtube tags, instead of just text.

Black Sweat. I’ve said it before and will say it again, no one works a drum machine as hard as P. The patterns he comes up with always sound fresh and inventive. And when you are working with such a base, you can only get better. This song brings out my inner soul brother. I start pulling that funk face and getting into the groove thinking of myself as way cooler than I am. A boost to the ego track no doubt. I pity the song that follows. Oh here comes my favourite part – that synth scream oooohweee.

funkomatic

- top-notch vocals

- average groove

- annoying synth sound

In short: unworthy for an appreciation thread!
