Even today, I'll never understand why Black Sweat was NEVER a hit like it should've been.

do you take the lyric: 'I don't wanna take my clothes off, but i do" to mean. HE DOES want to, or HE DOES take them off. both possibly? i love when his lyrics have double entendres like that

Its minimilist funk, like Kiss was (dont jump on me for calling it funk, yall know what I mean).

Yet it still seems like there's a lot going on. I like that.

Good as it was on the album, I like it better live. "Come on, Prince, play that bass!" and all that really get me pumped for the song.

Yeah, Black Sweat is one of the most unique tunes Prince has released for a very long time.

I like the song as well, it´s so damn funky and my favorite on 3121.

With the right support by a big music company like WB and a proper promotion

it shout have been a hit single imo.

But who cares anyway wink

I absolutely love that whole album, particularly that track. I also remember it taking some time 2 grow on me. Whenever Prince drops a new album and I hear tons of complaining about the songs I always wonder 2 myself "So which of these songs that every1 hates will they be raving about in a few years?"

Black Sweat was such a song.

I don't remember very many people "hating" Black Sweat. The NPGMC was still around when 3121 was released and, as I recall, people pretty much went apeshit (in a good way) over that track.

We got some teaser stills from the shoot (in real time, in fact) and everyone was incredibly excited. When it finally debuted on BET, the place went nuts. He even touched his nose three times (which was kind of a running joke that he should give us some kind of "sign" if he heard us) and people were all, "He touched his nose! He touched his nose! excited

It was pretty hilarious - and the response was overwhelmingly positive.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Pretty much the catchiest thing he'd written in over a decade.......then he ruined it with his desperation to be relevant with the high pitched whine and overcompressed mix. My ears are still bleeding...

That high pitch sound in "Black Sweat" sort of reminds me of the annoying pitch sound in the theme song for an old soap opera named "Dark Shadows";similar, but not quite. lol

I LOVE this song. I loved it from the first time I heard it! It was pure FIRE then and it's still pure FIRE today. I'm still pissed that that the song was the smash hit that it deserved to be.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
