What about Anthony Hamilton? All I know is Usher or Chris Brown's ass, better not even think about being part of that tribute.
[Edited 6/17/10 12:57pm]
Has Anthony ever said he was influenced or did any Prince styled joints? he can sing but he is more of and old "Soul" singer. I never thought of him in regards 2 Prince. That might be interesting seeing him tackle a song like Adore.
I believe Shelby sang with Anthony Hamilton. And for some reason I remember hearing that AH is a big Prince fan. |

Lawd have mercy, lawd help us, I feel like channelling Red Foxx. I just said I hope Usher's ass was not going to be part of the award show, and I'm hoping he is not part of the performance, but his name has been added to the updated list of performers. Here's the current listing:
Not to mention, Mr. Minstrel "T-Pain" in the ass, will be a performer, as well as "Eminem". Let's just hope for the tribute, they will have decent artists, no as a matter of fact, let's start praying now, that there will be decent artists participating in the tribute, and some of the ones listed here will not. At least we know Alicia Keys will be performing.
Alicia Keys
Diddy - Dirty Money
Drake
Trey Songz
Usher
NinaJ
Ludacris
DJ Khaled
Eminem
T-Pain
[Edited 6/17/10 13:18pm]
Thumbsdown on this list.
I'ma cosign. BUT I saw Luda and Talib Kweli perform with and it was HOT. So if there was ANY hip hop involvement I'd say these two or maybe Common.
But you already KNOW it's gonna be Will and Alicia fa sho. |

The simple answer is because BET fucked up so badly last year, nothing short of Prince participating in the tribute, will actually do.
The more complex answer is...looking at the big picture (a concept that is foreign to those with tunnel vision), it would be the right thing for Prince to do...at the right time...on numerous levels.
Well, I posted this a few posts up in response to something:
Acrylic said:
Yeah, I mean, I'm all for people who looked up to him, were inspired by him, or worked with him. Definately! But Prince? None of the above. Prince was doin' his thing, MJ was doin' his thing -- I don't think there is any reason for Prince to acknowledge the passing anymore than he already has.
And I'm not hating; I digs me some MJ.
I don't understand why you feel it's the RIGHT thing to do. Madonna dies tomorrow; does Prince HAVE to do the tribute? They were both huge around the same time.
It is just beyond me why just because they were both big around the same time, people make it seem like Prince has some sort of unspoken obligation to do more on the MJ front.
My goodness, there is such density in this place. I don't think he's obligated to do a damn thing. He's not even obligated to show up. However, there is such a thing as respect amongst peers. Even peers who've done things as phenomenal as both Prince and Michael have.
I...meaning just ME and MYSELF...think that it would be the right thing for Prince to do because NO ONE that will be at that show could possibly do it better AND if he did it right...like I think he can...the public at large...would eat it up like candy!
But like I said I'm just a Hater on the internet...so what do I know? All you "loving" and "adoring" folks seem almost appalled by the idea, of one musical genius paying tribute to another musical genius at a venue that's HONORING the BOTH of them, for their incredible contributions to their community and the world as a whole. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart. |

I hope you don't think that I was singling you out. Your opinion is not an uncommon one. Alot of people feel as though Prince should do more on the MJ front than he has. I was just addressing that opinion -- and your post gave me the venue to do it.
It's just my opinion that Prince's done enough. He said how he felt. I think that is all that is needed. I don't see it as being necessary. If, let's say, Larry Graham (despite my distaste for him) kicked the can, and there was something going on for him, I could see Prince doing something for him. Larry inspired Prince, showed him a new way of life (whether I agree with it or not). He added something to his career as well as his personal life. Michael did not. Therefore, I don't see the point.
And just for reference, I'm neither "loving" nor "adoring". ACRYLIC
I do nothing professionally.
I only do things for fun.

Yeah, I deleted "P" by accident then was too lazy to fix it.
I'm watching the show then all of a sudden Luda's on stage wit a mic in his hand, then I see Talib Kweli and he's rhymin too. And Dave Chapelle's up there shaking his monkey for a dolla. Fun night.

I keep hearing BET is supposed to TRY and redeem themselves with another Michael Jackson Tribute that night, also.
Anyone else thinking like I am and wondering if Prince...well, if he even shows up for his own tribute, that is.
Maybe...just maybe...(Yes, I know WHO I'm talking about...but go with me for moment!) he might do the right thing and actually take part in the MJ tribute, as well and really give up some love for Michael, in the best way possible...musically, of course! Ensuring that Michael gets the tribute that he deserves?
Done right...he wouldn't even have to perform one of Michael's song. He could just make one. Preferably, just a GOOD one but if has just one last GREAT one in him, that would be the time to bring it...but hey, I'm just a Hater on the internet...what do I know?
On second thought, that's just probably waaaaay too much to to even think about. I'll just stick to hoping he shows up sans Larry!
Hey girl, speaking of Prince and MJ, my son had the nerve and audacity to come over my house today, with this T-shirt on, which I must say I love seeing the both of these two artists in that pic. It speaks volumes of 2 legends. He said anytime he wears it, people stop him in the street to ask him where he got it from. He said he actually bought this t-shirt 3 years ago, and now can't find another one like it, and doesn't remember where he bought it, but said when he saw it, he had to buy it. I wish I had a poster like that hat so I could hang it up. I must say I demanded he finds another one just like it and buy it for me..
Anyway, as far as Prince showing up, I read on another site that Dr.F twittered that Prince would be there. We shall see.

It's no secret he doesn't like anyone to produce anything in his likeness without his persmission. But exactly who is he going to send the pit bulls after when the shirt can't be found? It obviously was bought from a street vendor 3 years ago, and you can't find it anywhere now. Do you expect members of the Jackson family to send out the bounty hunters too? [Edited 6/22/10 7:50am] |
