I really disagree with above statement. If Prince didn't want to be "Rich" anymore yeah he could make that happen. He could do absolutely nothing about Fame at this point. Even if he hit the bottoms and became a street walker, cameras would be following him. America loves to watch the fall of the very rich, and the especially seem to take great pleasure in watching folks wallow. Look at what they did too poor Britney Spears (and trust me I am by no means a Britney fan). Prince needs money at this time to protect his person, to protect his being. He has some real craze-o's out there there would do him tremendous harm (ie. lock him away and make him sort of a musical sex slave). He needs that money to remain secure. Heck even not so attractive David Letterman had a serious female stalker out there. So what I'm saying is that once you have the FAME you NEED the wealth to just basically survive. Especially if you are on Prince's level. Unless you move to some remote country somewhere that bans secular music....ie. some Islamic Republic. Prince said on Tavis Smiley that he does not have a formal fan club because there are people that would do him harm. He said that there was an incident where someone tried to break into his home. A slave very much indeed....for the remainder of his natural life, or as long as he lives in the United States. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Now that is a possible scenerio, but who really want's that? Really? And it's not like he could live in any really established country. He tours the world. He'd have to live in some remote village where he probably couldn't even speak the language. That's ludercrist. That man's fate is sealed for the rest of his life and theres nothing at this point that he can do about it. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

fair to say it's not up to his fans. i guess if its something he wanted to do, he'd do it.
suggesting he has no power over his own life, is ludicrous, imo, no disrespect.
fame is easy to ditch, its not impossible, once the vision is clear, its smooth sailing.
Prince doesnt strike me as a fatalist, he's always carved his own path, within limitations, and without them.
puts a whole different light on the word 'emancipation' though, doesnt it.
a more likely scenario for him remaining where he is would be that maybe after 30 years of living in a fame-cage he's become 'institutionalised' and wouldnt know where to start with real freedom.
but i'm sure he'd pick it up in no time, just like everything else.

Just read the article on the flight home yesterday and I loved the photos. Very cool shots and as for the Q&A part it was pretty guarded when he answered the questions but that's classic Prince. I'll probably have to read it again to find the hidden meanings behind his words. He does seem quite comfortable with his spirituality and that's good for him. I do hope the music he's working on sees some sort of release at some point. I'm pretty sure he played 'Hot Summer' for the Ebony crew since that's how they promoted the article prior to it's release. Nice also to see that he's happy with Bria. He deserves it. Peace up Prince! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Just got around to reading the Ebony interview over the weekend. What a boring interview. They call it the World According to Prince. There was nothing new in this interview, just a lot of the same old. The pictures were nice, but interviewing Prince is like watching paint dry.

Removed his music from my ipods. It's like a fingernail on chalkboard. This is music I previously loved! I don't appreciate his statements, nor his views, towards "whites," in the Ebony magazine article. I'm happy to know the truth, regarding his sentiment. It's better than ignorance.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It was a non-interview, non-article. The questions were predictable fluff. I imagine that Prince set parameters and wasn't willing to talk about much. What a let down. Good pics though.

HaHAH!
Egyptian eh? Maybe I should give the man a call and send him some of my pictures. Nah....not worth it.
What is it with his fascination with Egypt anyways? Bria is a latina, ain't she?

Whatever bitterness Prince has towards the past, he is clear with his description of "whites" and "black music", he has no problem, driving off current Caucasion fans. Would he give this same speech to Rolling Stone? If I knew his perspective in the first place, I would have never given him the time of day, much less travel to his concerts, along with ticket, hotel, plane fare, time off work, etc. This interview was unbelievable poor judgement on his part. Although, I'd rather know his true character.
Addendum: I was raised with religion/Jesus as a kid. Mass, formal instruction, etc. Since when, does an adult, need another adult, to hold his/her hand regarding religious practice?? Prince has "ex-druggie" written all over.
Remaining "fresh"? The "box office" has been his gauge, was Prince's response. What happened to the art of making music, whether fans like it or not? I'm a little bit confused about the businessman, JW convert, and whatever the heck he is......including loony.

Doesn't this go back to the whole "Prince don't like dark-skinned women" thing? Now with that I couldn't agree more and that would explain why Bria won over Shelby. We know it's not about singing ability, in fact, it never is with the man. Anywho, I think the word Egyptian should be replaced with European or Caucasian. That would be more accurate when discussing Prince's preferences. Egyptian is too closely linked to African. And I doubt he has ever been "sexually" linked to anyone who looks anywhere near African.

And f'ing someone and dating someone is are two very different things. As a male, if you don't know nothing else, THAT'S one thing you should know. Besides, Nona wasn't the only one prostituting for tracks.

This topic should have ended with Spinlight's post. No one on here or any other forum will ever be able to sum Prince up better this that. You should get that piece copywritten. I think you know the man better than he knows himself.

Mayte had Coptic Egyptian in her.
Egyptian may be "African"...but we look different than South African. Facial features are different, and we're not as dark complexioned. Just sayin'. Yeah, Prince doesn't really like darker skinned women. Always Latina or Caucasian. Possible self-hatred issues? He is a rather fairly-skinned black man..
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes, there is a definite difference between those who live in the North vs South African. My brother dated a Northern African and she looked very much hispanic. So that does validate the Egyptian-trait comment. I wasn't even thinking about my ex-sister-in-law when I commented to that post. Actually, I do agree with you, also, when you mentioned possible self-hatred. He grew up in a predominantly Caucasian city/state and most likely was teased for not only his height, but his race as well.
