No worries...your motion is granted and the testimony will be stricken from the record on the basis of being speculative and irrelevant.

Mr. Mooney was not available so I'm the presiding judge, (see reply 127), although at the rate we're going I may recuse myself from this case and call in Joe Brown.
On top of that, I suspect the bailiff is intoxicated,

I did no such thing!!! I'm neutral on Prince's racial-philosophical leanings.
After all, he's the same cat who -- when interviewed about the commercialism emerging in his mid-1980s music during his MTV interview in France -- made a joking reference to his cufflinks costing money. That compositional shift, his New Romantics look during Purple Rain, the racial makeup of the Revolution and his lyrical references to Europe -- all those things underlaid his obvious desire for a broader (i.e., whiter) fanbase. And, he got it.

I don't know Threadbare, I may have to request to have your Black Discovery card privlieges revoked for one day. We're not trying to have you be a "Witness for the Prosecution" ", no pun intended of course... During this mock trial for the defendant, who we will refer to as the "Majestic One" to protect his identity and likeness, we will not have folks "jumping ship" with so few witnesses for the defendant left.
Now you say witnessed his attempt to reach out to a broader audience, back in the mid 1980x, by going beyond borders, so-to-speak, which proves he believed that he and his music should not be "boxed" or "limited into one category, and forced to play to one demographic. If you recall, in the current 2010 Ebony issue, in more ways than one, my client has stated that people need to realize that black music is not one and the same and neither are black musicians, because they are not a monolithic group, and that, that should be reflected around the globe.
That evidence shows there was no crime committed by my client reaching beyond borders to get his music heard. As far as questions raised to him, by MTV interviewwers in France regarding "commercialism emerging in his mid-1980s music" was he anymore guilty of that than the gangsta rappers of the mid-1980s, "blinging-blinging" their gynormous 150 lb gold chains around their necks" and boasting about it? So my client committed no crime in sharing how expensive his classy cufflinks cost him.
Honorable Judge Babynoz, at this time, I have nothing more to present to the jury, unless the prosecution has something to present. I'd like to hope my client will have his "brothaman pass" reinstated and this case finalized before June 27th, when my client, the "Majestic One" will be honored with a lifetime achievement award from BET on June 27th, according to information about that on another thread here. One more thing, Honorable Judge Babynoz, if witness "Threadbare" tries to jump ship during this mock trial, then I request he loses his Black Discovery charge card privileges for one day. The defense rests. [Edited 6/15/10 7:32am]

well, i'm glad for Prince's career, no matter what he did or didn't do right, and i'm glad for his interviews, i enjoy hearing the things he has to say, some of them make me laugh, and some of them make me outright cry lol.
i might agree with Spinlight, but in this case there's no need. Prince is a musician, he's not running for president. this too shall pass

-groans- Well, on an upnote, it could have been worse. We all know this. It could have been way, way worse.
And as for his comment pertaining to what keeps him looking so ageless and youthful -- instead of that boojy bullshit he spit, he coulda just been like, "Botox and airbrushing, baby, botox and airbrushing." I do nothing professionally. I only do things for fun. johnart: Acrylic's old bras is where tits of all sizes go to frolic after they die. Tit Heaven.

May I approach the bench? Judge, BET sold out to Viacom. BET co-founder Sheila Johnson said when BET was started it was going to be Ebony magazine on television. Look what BET has become. I can't prosecute the Majestic One. Having a black pass means absolutely nothing in this day and age. A good lamp is the best police. *Ralph Waldo Emerson

Wow, you and I agree on something, and yes, that was actually mentioned on the BET thread. Bob Johnson took the money and ran.

Lol............I'll try and keep this simple. Prince from day 1 has played the game in a fashion that he sees fit. He is NOT going 2 change anytime soon. If Prince wanted 2 "rule" the music business, he would have. Prince choose a path that suited him. There is a price 2 pay 4 being the "King"..and Prince was smart enough 2 reconize FOOLS gold when he saw it.
All that glitters is NOT Gold.

I felt his asking the interviewr this was a bit insulting to their inteligence and the inteligence of Ebony readers. Ebony has talked about Harlem Renaissance and Black Wall Street before and Ebony readers tend to be a little more sophisticated than say....readers of BLACK MEN and VIBE.
Anyway...I've steered clear of this thread only because P didn't say anything that was new or unexpected. He is clearly in a stage of learning and discovery...I just wish he wouldn't act like we all just came to class for the first time. I tried replying to this before but I got lost. Something tells me that despite all of Prince's talk about African American issues. he doesn't read Ebony magazine and see what they are talking about unless he is the coverboy. I think that there are very specific black folks that Prince has political conversations with and what is going on outside that little circle of peers is doubtfully something he is made aware of. (In the same way, when talking about religion it's always the same Jehovah Witnesses that studies the Bible with. There are over 7,000,000 Witnesses out there now; I think it's time he widen his study group. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

After just scanning the article what stood out to me was the feeling the interviewer had when Prince entered the room. I could just about feel it when I read that part. He lights up a room and is an inscrutable enigma IMO.

Lawd,
With regard to Threadbare, the court will withold sanctions until such time as the witness has responded to your motion. Don't worry, the bailiff has him under surveillance.
The case is now in the hands of the jury, who by now should be content with stomachs full of pizza...our jury foreman, WaterInYourBath will review the testimony and the deliberations before counting the votes. He or she will then inform the court when the jury has reached a verdict. The court will make every effort to conclude these proceeding before the BET shindig in honor of the "Majestic One".
Court personnel are prohibited from voting or discussing the case with any members of the jury. Anyone violating the court's order will face contempt charges and could end up spending the night with these guys...
[img:$uid]http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/delivertheword/misc/life.jpg[/img:$uid]
The question before the jury is will Prince Rogers Nelson, aka brotha-man P, retain the rights to his "down brotha" pass or shall his pass be suspended for a period of six months during which time he must enter "Soul Brotha Rehab" to have his pass reinstated.
During rehab he will be placed in the custody of Graycap, and must watch Spike Lee movies every night for the entire six months while consuming only corn bread and collard greens. In lieu of his vegan sensibilities, the court will withold the hog maws from the menu.
A yes vote means P is good to go. A no vote means rehab.
Members of the jury, what say you??? Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

The stipulation between the parties regarding BET is duly noted and an agreed order will be issued.
Unless the prosecution files a "Motion To Dismiss", the case is now in the hands of the jury... lawd help us! Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

In recent years, Prince is sounding like the smartest man in pop music. While it was not the best article and interview on Prince that I have read, it did reaffirm my feeling that Prince is my hero. His intelligence and courage to speak clearly and frankly on business, religion, and society. He is his own man - how many people can say that with any truth? A great indicator of the truth is when someone jumps up and doesnt like it - even though they can not deny it. Those who don't like the fact that Prince talks to Ebony or Tavis Smiley or mentions the role of race in the history of the music business, dont like the truth.
