BBC Prince Downloads

The Prince documentary is available from the BBC site as streaming audio i.e. a Realplayer file.

Is there any utility I can use that will record the file for me as it streams?

Not 2 my knowledge. I've been trying to find a way of doing the same. However I did record it from the radio straight 2 DAT. So I can get it to CD in excellent quality.

IF YOU HAVE A CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER LIVE SOUNDCARD THEN YOU CAN RECORD THE SHOW USING A RECORDER..

I'VE RECORDED THE SHOW LIVE BY CONNECTING MY HIFI TO MY COMPUTER AND USING THE RECORDER TO RECORD IT LIVE (I.E. PERFECT DIGITAL QUALITY - NOT CRAPPY STREAM QUALITY).

I THEN CONVERTED THE 6OOMB WAV TO A 60MB MP3 FILE AND HAVE BURNTY IT TO CD IN PERFECT QUALITY)

BLISS...

I've never done it myself, but I pointed my Dad to some programs at Tucows. He said he had some success. Worth a try.

You could always record the audio out onto a good ol' tape deck couldn't you?

OK. Looks like it's not possible to record the streaming audio straight to mp3. Would anyone who has the magic 60mb file be willing to share it???

U could plug a mini disc player to your CPU then record the file. Then record it back as an MP3!

You can used VideoStreamBox I think it's called. An old program no longer widely available because of the fact that it could download the entire file of a RealPlayer stream, and of course that invited all kinds of copyright issues.

If you can find the program on the net, it's pretty straitforward to use... you'll need the exact URL for the download though and that may require some fishing around since the stream for the BBC special is embedded in javascript.

EDIT ADD: But I think someone has already uploaded the file to alt.binaries.multimedia.prince to save you all the trouble. If you know how to deal with newsgroups/binaries then that's probably your best shot. Check out www.easynews.com for a web-based binary newsreader that's pretty easy to use.

Total Recorder is a very large program for most people's requirements. A lot of stream-rippers don't really work as they also record drop-out whilst the file is buffering.

I think that you might need this...

The documentary didn't tell me anything I didn't know and the music critic Nelson George claimed that Prince tongued WENDY over the keyboard during the Dirty Mind tour. Mica Paris's delivery was a little stilted too - like she needed to cough or something - I dunno.

BUT it was great to hear a lot of real facts gathered together in one show (well, HALF a show) and I'm going to give copies to friends who I'm trying to get into Prince.

Is it really worth it? I quite enjoyed listening to former bandmates and stuff talk about Prince, but I can't imagine wanting to listen to it again.

Is this just for completists?

It was ok.

Good to see him on radio at all though.

I'm recording the 2nd part now. It was realy entertaining.

Is it just me, or does Susan Rogers sound like Mira Sorvino's character in the movie "Mighty Aphrodite"? Lamb Chop springs to mind too - does anybody remember Lamb Chop? It was a sock puppet.
