After Lotusflower

The 3 CD LotusFlower is an embarrassment… of riches. It is the work of an accomplished musician and songwriter who shows that he has no boundaries musically speaking. It really could not be produced by any other living musician. It rocks, it funks, it jazzes lol. What’s not to love?

The only thing missing from the set is the innovation of youth. When a young genius Prince was producing music with the ignorance of a novice. The music we get on Lotusflower is the inevitable flowering of genius after years of study and practice. That so many Prince fans are so dismissive of this work is rather sad. For me Lotusflower makes me want to hear more of the artistry that is contained within the mind of this 52 year-old wonder.

What are thoughts on the future after Lotusflower?

Brilliantly said and bang on. I think it's going to be hard for the man to top but, the fact we still get things like this from a man 30 years in is phenomenal.....just unreal and NO ONE else can do it. It's upsetting that these few people on the org and casual people are not realising this whilst he's here with us.

He could record his farts and that would be much better than anything from 2004 onwards.

Agreed - very few artists 35 years into their career could pull of something as good as LotusFlower. Usually by this point, bands are doing the "acoustic covers album" or Rib Cook-off circuit.

I've listened to lotusflower/MPLS sound maybe three or four times each and the Bria Valentina CD not at all. Nothing really there to send me back. Also, that cause and effect track sucked. Prince really needs to step up his game but I'll still buy whatever he does next.

U probably should sign-off at this point as a fan. if u could only muster 3 or 4 listens you really aren't interested regardless of the quality or lack there of of the music. That u never even listened to the Bria CD points directly to that. Some people at this point are fooling themselves in regards to being fans. Your a fan of the past.

Nice bait thread.

"I'm going to pretend to ask for other people's thoughts, but if anyone dares to disagree with MY thoughts, I'll tell them they're not REAL fans anymore."

Whatever. I think Lotus is a dreary three-album set lacking in personality. A couple decent tracks here and there can't save it for me. I hope after this, Prince takes a good hard look at the complete failure of the whole project and goes in a more interesting direction.

My guess is the next album will be mediocre... the reason I say that is b/c I would think that it would be difficult to top the LF set. My hopes are that it`s on par w/ the LF set but u never know w/ Prince u just never know. I`m sure there will b killer trax on the new album but there always are if just one. I`m sure whatever he releases next I`ll love but there will clearly be more folks here as critical as ever since they seem to be self appointed Prince music experts & what his sound should b & what he should do w/ his career & life choices. Here`s to hoping for a rocking new album sonner than later but til then I got 30+ albums of masterpieces to njoy!

Oh please! i made no value judgement on the "past fan". There is nothing wrong with being a fan of the past but it is what it is.

U on the other hand sound just jaded. Like someone who has gone to a gourmat restaurant too many times. Your assessment that prince should "take a good hard look at the complete failure" seems to come from some alternate universe that only u inhabit. Like it or not "complete failure" is pure hyperbole on your part which makes it easy to dismiss your opinion.

Fan of the past? I LOVED Planet Earth. I just found the albums kind of boring. I'll listen to them more and maybe I'll connect better with them. It took me a long time to dig The Rainbow Children but I love that record. The main thing is I listen to a lot of different music (http://www.last.fm/user/fever0000). I just haven't devoted the time needed to those records yet, I guess. The Bria thing.. I just didn't see a reason to listen to another record by another of Prince's women. But it's on my ipod.If you say it's good I'll give it a chance.

When I listen to the 1st album: For You and then right behind that listen to LoTUSFLOW3R you can see the progression musically and lyrically. Nuff Said ...

I liked the LF set. No, wait, I liked LF and MS. I did NOT like the Bria disc. I listened to it twice, and even that was difficult for me. I just think it was weak. I would have much preferred another Prince disc, or maybe The Time.

Is this thread talking about LotusFlow3r, Yep ..... Great Album, if your a Real Fan you'll love it , shows that Prince can move forward with his lyrics, ideas and music, he's not stuck in the 80's like most artist ... he can keep adding layers ...keeping his music fresh staying ahead of the game

very advanced for a 52 year old rocker....biggrin

the future could go either way, i guess. the "lotusflower" title disc is, imo, as great

a prince album as any of his clasics. i love it from start to finish and hope he will

release more similar music in the future. it's the first album since The Rainbow

Children, that i can listen to from start to finish without disliking anything.

if he choses to stick to the "mplsound" route, i'm not anticipating anything really

very good. there are only 3 songs on that album that i like and the rest i could've

done without. don't hate them, don't totally dislike them, just don't care for them,

at all.

the bria valente album has some nice tracks, it's good, for a protege disc anyway.

wouldn't mind some more tracks in that vein, just not taking up space on another

prince release. but a second album by her? sure, why not.

sadly tho, there are much darker clouds on the horizon when i'm thinking about

how his new album might be shaping up. if "purple and gold" or "cause n effect"

are any measure, dear lord, i'm not expecting all that much.

if you will still buy whatever he does next, then why haven't you given the bria disc

a single listen, as you say?

i can understand how a protege disc might not interest people all that much but at

the end of the day it's just a prince album with female vocals since it's all him with

a little bit of help from her.

wouldn't people at least be interested in listening to it? i see so many people say

that they never listened to that disc, didn't feel the need to. i just can't understand

that, or believe that. never listened to it? not even once? gtfooh.

I hear his next album is going to be a note-for-note cover of Animals by Pink Floyd. I wish.

I doubt he really cares what we think, I'm sure he at least broke even on the LF set.

It's cool that he's even in the spotlight after so many years at it.

Rock on, brother Prince.

Of all his albums, I've listened to this set the least. I really liked "Colonized Mind," and the Leno version of "Dreamer," but that's it.

I almost trashed Bria's disc, but then remembered I paid money for it. confused

lol

you say that as if it will be like sticking needles in your eyes biggrin

give it a spin, you might like some of it. it's not mindblowing or anything but it's

a solid protege album. it's got better songs than any protege disc he's released

since the 80s.
