...and through the cluttered chatter of chit-chat and banter, a Voice of Reason came and penetrated hard... asking simply: Is it possible or even plausible that those within this thread that have the magazine could elaborate on what they have read? Peace?

Should I have said "please"?

The same people who have read it also know the tracklist of the new album.

Well, orger "Disorder" pretty much bz dstated what was in the interview, in his/her post,(see replies 441 and 468) and as far as quotes from the article, according to an earlier post by a mod, the mod stated we can't post anything from the article due to possible copyright violations. I already got snipped 2 days ago, for posting quoted material fromthe ebony online site, earlier in this thread.

Ayway, most issues should be available on shelves no later than Tuesday. Some vendors just received it early, that's all.

I guess we'll have to wait to see if the mods set up a sticky thread so we could discuss the interview.

I just don't think they will allow us to post any quotes from the magazine.

lol Not really. marxisreal, but I see your point somewhat. But, seeing how Blacks, as a whole, and coming from various ethnic/cultural groups, blended together in the U.S., and are all individuals with their own opinions, lifestyles, cultures, religious/non-religious beliefs, I doubt any magazine, whether it's Ebony or Essence that writes, showcase or promote the type of ideology you speak of, will have a "sefl-defeating" effect on Blacks as a whole. What may be of interest to one, will not affect/effect another the same way.

Since we're individuals, we all see the world and live in it as individuals, living in various/social/economic situations, and having different political opinions regarding what we feel is best for us as a people, on a general basis. As you mentioned the ideology of the Black Panthers whereas individuals like Bill Cosby may have a totally different opinion about the social/economic conditions of Blacks in America. Ebony is not the bible for the entire Black population nor is one particular, African-American's opinion the end-all, be all for the voice of all Blacks in America. We've come this far as a people, still a lot of work to be done, and as a whole, we're not at the end of our road yet.

Anyway, getting back on topic....who would have thought Prince giving an interview in Ebony magazine would cause all these emotions in this thread to arise? Geez. lol

[Edited 6/6/10 13:36pm]

I'm just waiting for this bad boy to get moved to Politics&Religion, where it belongs. razz The last 5 pages of discussion are on the essence of Ebony, (pun intended) giggle and not one gushing, fawning, over exaggerated review of what Prince actually had to say in the article? confuse

This thread should have been moved! lol

[Edited 6/6/10 14:21pm]

Well, blame those who turned the thread into "Why is the magazine called Ebony?" lol

Brain, how about you? Is that as clever a response that you can come up with? Lol. You are very entertaining. biggrin

sigh Rory for some reason I'm getting the impression from your posts that you're more angry at Prince agreeing to do an interview with a black-owned publication, moreso than being angry at the name of the mag. But get this, Prince pretty much includes himself as being part of the Black population during the interview, so what's the problem? Ebony committed no crime and neither did Prince in sharing an interview for the general public to read. Now do you think you can focus more on Prince the musician and his 30-year plus career as a muscian, than worry yourself about the race of any individual or the name of a publication, who chooses to interview Prince?

"I think its because its Ebony magazine that Prince chose to do this exclusive interview with. If it was any other mag like Rolling Stone. It wouldn't be all this negativity about it. Its sad but its true.."

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I just read the article and I think it was rather pointless. I'd been satisfied if they just had about 6 pages of him in photos than to read an interview where he dodges answering questions by rambling about the sun, moon and the stars...and oops, how could I forget, that fuckin' Larry Graham!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

This thread is gone crazy!
I never said I had a problem with Prince doing an interview with a black magazine!? Why the hell would I?

The only thing I pointed out was quite the opposite. That in a thread that has become obessed with racial bickering, it's ironic that the magazine itself actually excludes a group because of their race.
I do not approve of racism of ANY kind, be it white on black or black on white. It's all the same at the end of the day.

That is all. And thanks squirrelgrease for demostrating how crazy polital correctness has gotten by showing how silly it would be if the races were switched. That to me is the most interesting thing in the thread.

Sounds like the magazine article is the same old shit anyhow!

You never explained how Ebony magazine excludes anyone by focusing on the accomplishments of black people.

By your logic, Car & Driver excludes quilting enthusiasts, and is wrong for doing so.

I think you might be missing the point of Ebony. I'm pretty sure the purpose of the magazine is to celebrate, uplift, and give focus to a specific culture. I don't see anything about the magazine that exhibits any racism or inherent racial superiority over another. In the US, the white population is 79.96%. The black population is 12.85%. It's like someone getting angry over a gay pride magazine because it doesn't have enough straight people in it. I just don't see the harm or any threat of racism that you seem to believe is there.

Reel

A BLACK MAN did an interview with a BLACK MAGAZINE. I can't for the life of me understand what the controversy in that is. I think the problem is that so many people in their mind have concocted the idea that Prince is not an African American. And maybe rightfully so, because he has been misleading about his race (Purple Rain movie depicting his mother as white, Prince making vague statements about whether or not he is black etc.) Please make no mistake about it, he is as black as any Black American that you have seen, don't let the skin tone fool you. If you really listen to his recent music he has begun to discuss racial issues and how they affect "us".

The issue for non-black people who have a problem with this is that they are upset that Prince has recently started embracing the black culture. You can hear it in his last 2 albums and see it in his on stage appearances.

As far as the ongoing question as to "Why is it Ok to have a black magazine?". It's ok because black magazines capture themes in the BLACK CULTURE. Now...perhaps since we have all intergrated, and blacks have found it necessary to "fit in" to white society for employment purposes etc. people may thing that black folks talk at home the way that the speak at work. Not necessarily so. Perhaps some do, but trust me...many dont. We have our own patois at home, at least most of us.

Make no mistake about it....there is a BLACK CULTURE. The culture includes, language, art, music food, spirtuality (a way of worshipping) that is not a part of White Culture. In addtion, there are also magazines catereed to Latin Americans....and rightfully so. They also have a similar "subculture" that is not apart of the mainstream which consists of language, art, food, spirituality, music etc.

The reason why it's not ok for White magazines to exclusively avoid other races is because of America's history of segregation and separatism. As the maninstream culture it is RESPONSIBLE for including a representation of all races that contribute to making America the place that everyone enjoys. Hell there are still White magazines who have never really hightlighted any African Americans and Latinos. So....we have our own. smile Just handle it!

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Apparently, you know nothing about U.S. History or African-Americans and have decided there is no reason to read some of the excellent responses to your nosense. I think you know what you use to think with and my response was not only clever but spot on.

Have you ever even traveled outside the USA? Racisim is not just about America Laura. Maybe you should try and read a few books that don't have pictures in them? Do you know what xenophobia means. Or do u think it's just a song by Prince. Don't tell people they don't know about American history, when obviously you have no idea about world history. There are black and white racists, there still are. In Europe we are taught world history in school not just about our own country. I bet I know a hell of a lot more about your country than you do about mine or most of the other orgers on here. wink [Edited 6/6/10 13:40pm]

You’re the one going around screaming that Ebony is excluding other races which is stupid and ignorant comment and this has been explained to you by a few other orgers.

Try reading what some of them have to say because you definitely do not know what you are talking about.

I have been outside the US and I know racism exist all over the world but I live in America and I get sick and tired of Europeans on this board saying all manner of stupid things about African-Americans in the U.S. and black culture. You have no idea what you are talking about. If you really learned world history in school than please explain your ignorance about African-Americans and our history in the United States. Your comments put you out there as being uniformed which is not the end of the world but to get a tude about it is mind boggling.

Well since about 75% of this thread has morphed into a dicussion about race and why Prince decided to give an interview to Ebony Magazine (a black magazine), then perhaps the entire thread should be moved to P&R then. It's kind of late in the game to just tell people to stop talking about it, and addressing previous posts.
