Prince's guitar broke? So i recently watched Prince's performance with Beyonce. At the end of the performance he whips off his guitar and throws it. I can't really tell if he threw it off stage to a roadie or not...looked like it wasn't planned and i dont know how someone could have caught that anyways...
Take a look and give me your knowledge! P.S.: This is not another thread about Prince's guitars dissapearing into thin air either,

It wasn't that far fromt he ground considering hes just over 5 feet tall. The thing would have hit the ground in 1.2 seconds. The tech stands on the floor in front of the stage - out of the shot but within range of the toss. Maybe you are that...never mind... We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. Do you really think that Prince would just throw one of his guitars in a way that might result in damage to or the destruction of the instrument - or a lawsuit if it hit someone? Common sense would lead you to the obvious conclusion. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

He's thrown his guitars to the ground before. I remember he did it at the end of the Today Show performance of Zannalee, with the black symbol guitar, and he also did it with the gold symbol guitar as well, though I'm forgetting when. I do remember going to many a Paisley show in the mid-nineties and being close enough to notice the curly-cue thing was entirely broken off and glued back on. You may even be able to see it in the Gold video, as it was still broken then.

Dropping a guitar on the stage is one thing. (He also did it at the Webbies.) Tossing it into a crowd where it might hit someone (without a dedicated "catcher") is something else. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

If you watch at the end of the 'My Guitar Gently Weeps' performance he throws the guitar but gives a little glance to make sure it's ok Can you imagine the love he feels for these things? He's not going to trash his favourites!

True. But if he plans on doing it for a little Prince entertainment he could have disposables...Like Paul Stanley of KISS..during the last song he hands of his 'Nice' guitar and gets a cheaper model to completely annihilate. Same concept... [Edited 5/7/10 9:33am]

What does whether or not I play guitar have to do with the price of pork? And clearly, you are the one who doesn't understand what's happening. Prince tossed the guitar. A guitar tech caught the guitar. History is what it is. Case closed. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It isn't oh he "simply" throws it and someone "simply" catches it. And no one caught the guitar. He threw / tossed it on the ground it broke. He's a badass. He's Prince. He can do anything he wants. I think he smashed one of the white cloud guitars at the April 7 1985 concert A friend of mine was a roadie for the 85 tour and tells the story of Prince hitting his head on the stage or scaffold or something hard during an off stage change and getting so pissed he trashed a cloud guitar backstage (Or understage whatever the case may be) But there are extras for just such an emergency. I am pretty sure he dropped his guitar to the ground (a hole 3 feet) in the 81 SNL apprentice. But he DOSE toss his guitars to techs as well. The best example I can recall is the Super Bowl performance. Prince tosses it and the tech can be seen catching it. (there is a recent topic that has the photo of the guy with a funny look on his face as he is reaching to catch it) "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"
