For me, 1999. I had it on vinyl, then (ahem) 8-track, then cassette, then CD without DMSR, then CD again with DMSR. Oh, and I found a vinyl import of the album that was just a single album (with half the songs). So I guess I bought that album six times.

I've had to rebuy the entire catalog, including the 12" since I moved here in 1997. Back in the day though, I went through a couple copies of ATWIAD, had multiple copies of PR (cassette, LP). Currently, just on CD, I have double copies of The Gold Experience (one is promo), and Lovesexy (one is tracked, the other is one track), Purple Rain (one in the $7.00 digipak at Walmart). There's an extra Emancipation disk III floating around here for some reason. I have PR on LP in about 3 copies, plus a purple copy. I have two LP copies of Controversy, one with the poster. Lots other misc stuff, mainly promo 12" singles for radio stations vs the released 12" for the public.

Not sure to be honest.I spent several thousand dollars on Itunes but when I moved and I had to get a new computer I lost my library because I didn't back it up.Haven't gotten it back yet.
Now I am having to replace everything I left and it is costing me a fortune!

The Gold Experience
I bought at least 6 copies because people borrowing it never returned it. Finally had to go to disc-go-round to find another one.

I have purchased most of the Warners releases at least three times; two ex-lovers crashed my collection on separate occasions! The first act of vandalism almost made me cry. I have also bought several albums via iTunes. These days my collection lives "in the cloud" so I imagine the next act of destruction will be performed by a real fucking angel.
The third loss of Prince CD's was almost entirely my fault -- I totaled a Lincoln Continental that I was living out of and neglected to retrieve my crap from the trunk... I haven't had real good luck in regards to the Prince records. La, la, la
He, he, hee! | |
